  • To investigate the seasonal variation patterns of tidal flat sediments in semi-enclosed Hampyong and Kwangyang Bays, respectively west and south coasts of Korea, accumulation rate and grain-size in the sediments were monitored during 2${\sim}$4 years. The mud flats in the northern and eastern parts of Hampyong Bay were eroded in summer and deposited in winter, but mixed flats in the southern part of the bay show reversed seasonal variations to the mud flats. These variations are most likely connected with wave actions induced by monsoon and physiographic setting of the tidal flats in the bay. In contrast, the tidal flats of Kwangyang Bay were eroded in summer and deposited in other seasons except summer, different from the case of Hampyong Bay. The physiography of Kwangyang Bay are characterized by dominant flood tides and weak wave actions. However, in summer, the surface sediments were abruptly eroded by occasional typhoons and heavy rainfall. These weather conditions appear to be important factors to accelerate erosion on the tidal flat in semi-enclosed bays, south coast of Korea.

  • Food habits of the gavelin goby Acanthogobius hasta and the fine spot goby Chaeturichtys stigmatias populations were investigated in the Jangbong tidal flat near Incheon, Korea. Samples were taken monthly from November 1999 to January 2001. The gut contents of 248 gavelin gobies and 139 fine spot gobies were analyzed. The diet of the gavelin goby was dominated by the gammaridean amphipod Chitinomandibulum emargicoxa, the crabs Macrophthalmus japonicus and Ilyoplax pingi, the shrimp Exopalaemon carinicauda, the bivalve Raetellops pulchella and the macro-algae Porphyra tenera. On the other hand, the fine spot goby mainly feed on the shrimps Crangon affinis, Latreutes mucronatus, E. carinicauda and Alpheus japonicus, the gammaridean amphipods C. emargicoxa and Synchelidium miraculum, and the bivalve R. pulchella. A comparison between frequencies of occurrence and abundance of food items in the gut showed that crustaceans (gammaridean amphipods, crabs and shrimps) and bivalves were important foods for the two gobies. However, the main components of the gut contents were different between two species, though this was probably due to differences in spatial distribution patterns of gobies and their prey items. In conclusion, both the gavelin goby and the fine spot goby, despite being the related species and co-inhabiting the similar part of the tidal flat, had quite distinct food habits and low dietary overlap (Schoener's index: 0.4). These indicated that the two gobies are or were partitioning resources in space and time for maximum uitilization of available food.

  • In Janghwa-ri of Kanghwa Island morphological changes in four transects, 112 surface, and 2 core sediments were analyzed to understand the seasonal variation of the muddy tidal-flat environment. Sedimentary of facies can be classified into four facies; sand, muddy sand, sandy mud, and silt. During winter, the coarse-grained sediment facies expanded seaward. In the subsurface part of the core sediments, poorly sorted silty sediments dominate the area. According to the Pb-210 isotope analysis, accumulation rates of the tidal flat in Jangwha-ri appear to be $5{\sim}19mm/yr$. In the study area, the result is suggestive of a rapid change in depositional environments in recent years.

  • This study investigated the correlation between the diatom community and the environmental variables on the tidal flat surface of the eastern part of Gomso Bay in the West coast of Korea in order to utilize the quantitative sea level record as a basic data. 24 sediment samples at 10cm intervals downstream of the Galgok Stream were used for diatom analysis, grain size analysis and CCA. As a result of diatom analysis, marine diatoms dominated at lower altitudes and the ratio of diatoms to fresh water diatoms and brackish diatoms increased toward upland. As a result of CCA, the contribution of environmental variables was analyzed as 25.3% at altitude, 21.6% at sand, 13.3% at skewness, etc. This means that altitude above sea level has the greatest influence on the diatom composition in the tidal flat surface. It suggests that the contribution of environmental variables at altitude above sea level can be used as a basic data for the quantitative records for reconstruction of paleo-sea level.

  • Background/Aims: While the occurrence of multiple whitish flat elevated lesions (MWFL) was first reported in 2007, no studies on MWFL have been published to date. The present retrospective observational study aimed to clarify the endoscopic findings and clinicopathological features of MWFL. Methods: Subjects were consecutive patients who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy as part of routine screening between April 2014 and March 2015. The conventional white-light, non-magnifying and magnifying narrow-band images were reviewed. Clinical features were compared between patients with and without MWFL. Results: The conventional endoscopic findings of MWFL include multiple whitish, flat, and slightly elevated lesions of various sizes, mainly located in the gastric body and fundus. Narrow-band imaging enhanced the contrast of MWFL and background mucosa, and magnifying narrow-band imaging depicted a uniformly long, narrow, and elliptical marginal crypt epithelium with an unclear microvascular pattern. Histopathological findings revealed hyperplastic changes of the foveolar epithelium, and parietal cell protrusions and oxyntic gland dilatations were observed in the fundic glands, without any intestinal metaplasia. The rate of acid-reducing drug use was significantly higher in patients with MWFL than in those without (100% [13/13] vs. 53.7% [88/164], p<0.001). Conclusions: The present study indicated a relationship between the presence and endoscopic features of MWFL and history of acid-reducing drug use.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the initial growth, burrowing depth, and relative growth of mud shrimps (Upogebia major and Austinogebia wuhsienweni), living in damaged high density tidal flat shellfish farms form 2008 in the Western coast of Korea. By August, young mud shrimps (Upogebia major), which had settled down on the tidal flats in early May, grew to more than 10 mm in carapace length (CL). At the end of the first year, their CL and total length (TL) increased to 14.21 mm and 42.28 mm, respectively. The inhabiting depth of the young mud shrimps (Upogebia major) increased rapidly up to about 6 months after stocking (5 cm in July, 12.5 cm in September, and 28 cm in November, respectively). The inhabiting depth of adult mud shrimps in their burrows was about 10-93 cm during the year. As results, the analysis of the relative growth between the carapace length (CL) - the total length (TL) and the CL - total wet weight (TWW), the total wet weight of mud shrimps at Boryeong Saho (inner part of the Cheonsu-bay) was estimated to be 1.2-4 g heavier than those of Boryeong Jugyo (Outer part of the Cheonsu-bay) tidal flat. The young mud shrimps primarily grew from April to October. It is therefore crucial to observe whether the settlement of young mud shrimps on tidal shellfish farms from May to June to minimize the damage of shellfish farms by newly stocked young mud shrimps. In addition, it is recommended that young mud shrimps grown in fisheries be harvested before they dig deep into the sediment until early December.

  • We ensure a flat and regular basic surface by using part of joint waterproofing improved sheet method applying the upper slab of a concrete structure. We solve the problem of getting loose scale the general sheet by waterproofing of the sheet and improving adhesive strength of the basic concrete. Also, waterproofing sheet union to problem of joint have solved using of insertion type method so that, it improved a watertightness. It has improved in resist impact, resist abrasion and it is the effect of shortened construction period and cutting down on construction expenses. Here are the special quality and superiority of this waterproofing research. (1) Level material has the super adhesive strength so that it makes the basic surface without the gab of waterproofing sheet and waterproofing layer with the string adhesive strength. (2) We unite the sheet with the joining part between sheets by waterproofing sheet joint using of method. (3) There is the effect of shortened construction period and cutting down on construction expenses without waterproofing of protection.

  • Expose equipment system that is used for manufacturing process of Flat Panel Display, is most important equipment in whole process. Expose equipment that is for making pattern of mask on substrate, consists of optical part, stage part and transport part. The stage is an important part that aligns mask and substrate for delivering pattern of mask to substrate exactly. In this paper, control system of expose stage that is able to use mask and substrate of diverse size, with PC controller using GUI interface instead of PLC control system. The existing PLC control system does not have the suitable structure for using mask of diverse size. GUI interface integration control system is based on PC. So it has the advantage of convenient use and active operation. We embodied PLC control system in integration control system based on PC, and verified utility possibility through the standard test course.

  • In this paper, we study a class of spacelike rotational surfaces in the Minkowski 4-space $\mathbb{E}^4_1$ with meridian curves lying in 2-dimensional spacelike planes and having pointwise 1-type Gauss map. We obtain all such surfaces with pointwise 1-type Gauss map of the first kind. Then we prove that the spacelike rotational surface with flat normal bundle and pointwise 1-type Gauss map of the second kind is an open part of a spacelike 2-plane in $\mathbb{E}^4_1$.
