정상 초음파장의 간섭에 의한 메탄/공기 예혼합화염의 구조 변이 (Structural Variation of Methane/Air Premixed Flame Caused by the Intervention of Ultrasonic Standing-wave)

  • 본 연구에서는 정상초음파장의 간섭에 의해 야기되는 예혼합화염의 구조 변이를 규명하기 위한 실험 결과를 제시한다. 화염전파를 관찰하기 위해 슐리렌 기법을 이용하였으며, 초기압력 및 연소챔버 개방 유무에 따른 화염선단의 형태 및 화염 전파속도를 고찰하였다. 정상초음파장에 의한 화염선단의 찌그러짐이 관찰되었고, 초음파장의 특성이 변하지 않는 한 그 수직방향으로의 위치는 일정하였다. 정상초음파의 영향을 받은 화염은 전파할수록 구조적 변화가 심해졌으며, 전파속도 또한 증가하였다. 반사파와 정상초음파의 영향으로 연꽃모양의 화염(lotus flame)이 형성되는 사실을 발견할 수 있었다.

가시화를 이용한 정적연소기에서 점화장치가 화염전파에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Visualization Study on the Effects of Ignition Systems on the Flame Propagation in a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber)

  • A visualization study using the schlieren method is adopted in an optically-accessible, cylindrical constant volume combustion chamber to identify the mechanism of ignition energy and ignition system interaction in spark ignited, lean gasoline-air mixture. In order to research the effects of ignition system on flame propagation, two kinds of ignition system are designed, and several kinds of spark plugs are tested and evaluated. To control the discharge energy, the dwell time is varied. The initial flame development is quantified in terms of 2-D images which provides information about the projected flame area and development velocity as a function of ignition system and discharge energy. The results show that high ignition energy and extended spark plug gap can shorten the combustion duration in lean mixtures. The material, diameter and configuration of electrodes the flame development by changing the transfer efficiency from electrical energy to chemical energy and discharge energy. However these factors do not affect of flame development as much a ignition energy or extended gap does.

와동에 의해 교란된 대향류 비예혼합화염의 화학종 전달기구 및 화염구조 (Species Transport Mechanisnn and Flame Structure of Counterflow Nonpremixed Flame Perturbed by a Vortex)

  • A two-dimensional direct numerical simulation was performed to investigate the flame structure of CH$_4$/$N_2$-Air counterflow nonpremixed flame interacting with a single vortex. The detailed transport properties and a modified 16-step augmented reduced mechanism based on Miller and Bowman's detailed chemistry were adopted in this computation. The results showed that an initially flat stagnation plane, on which an axial velocity was zero, was deformed into a complex-shaped plane, and an initial stagnation point was moved far away from a vortex head when the counterflow field was perturbed by the vortex. It was noted that the movement of stagnation point could alter the species transport mechanism to the flame surface. It was also identified that the altered species transport mechanism affected the distributions of the mixture fraction and the scalar dissipation rate.

다수 부분 예혼합 화염의 화염날림 유속 확대 (Nozzle configurations for partially premixed interacting jet flame to enhance blowout limits)

  • For the non-premixed interacting jet flames, it has been reported that if eight small nozzles are arranged along the circle of 40 $^{\sim}$ 72 times the diameter of single jet, the flames are not extinguished over 2oom/s. In this research, experiments were extended to the partially premixed cases to reduce both flame temperature and NOx emission. Nine nozzles were used- eight was evenly located along the perimeter of the imaginary circle and one at the geometric centre. The space between nozzles, S, the equivalence ratio, ${\Phi}$, the exit velocity and the role of the jet from the centre nozzle were considered. Normally, flame was lifted and flame base was located inside the imaginary circle made by the nozzle. As nozzles went away from each other, blowout velocity increased and then decreased. The maximum blowout velocity diminished with the addition of air to the fuel stream. When the fuel and/or oxidizer were not fed through the centre nozzle, the maximum blowout velocity obtained by varying Sand ${\Phi}$ was around 160m/s. Optimum nozzle separation distance at which peak blowout velocity obtained also decreased with ${\Phi}$ decrease. Flame base became leaner as approaching to the blowout. It seemed that lots of air was supplied to the flame stabilizing region by the entrainment and partially premixing. To approve this idea and to enhance the blowout velocity, fuel was supplied to the centre region. With the small amount of fuel through the centre nozzle, partially premixed flame could be sustained till sonic velocities. It seemed that the stabilizing mechanism in partially premixed interacting flame was different from that of non-premixed case because one was stabilized by the fuel supply through the centre nozzle but the other destabilized.

메탄/공기 다중 제트 예혼합 화염에서의 유동과 연소특성 (Flow and Combustion Characteristic in an Array of Multiple Pre-Mixed Methane/Air Flame Jets)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the flow and combustion characteristic of the experimental burner which was manufactured for the reflection of the oven and broil burner features. As slot shape, spacing between slots, and slot arrangement of the exit area which emits the mixing gas are different in case of oven burners and broil turners, the purpose of this study is to know the affection of the flame interaction and combustion characteristic according to the change of shape factors such as slot shape, slot arrangement, and slot-to-slot spacing. With no relation of the slot shape, as the spacing between slots became narrow, the occurrence of a lift-flame was delayed. So the combustion was possible in the leaner region, but the appearance of yellow-tip became a little fast. Slit slot port had the broadest operating range among the other slot shapes. Specially, from the side of lift-flame, as the jet that spreads downstream in the longitudinal slot was nearly circular just a few slot lengths away from the orifice, slot-to-slot spacing of the Slit port was closer than the other ports. These results could be expected through the computer numerical method and had a good agreement. As the spacing between slots increased, in case of Slit and Mix port, NOx emission rate was constant or decreased, but the NOx emission of Hole port was increased. CO emission rate of Slit and Hole port was increased as the slot-to-slot spacing was broadened.

  • It has been reported that if eight small nozzles are arranged along the circle of 40 $^{\sim}$ 72 times the diameter of single nozzle, the propane non-premixed flames are not extinguished even in 200m/s, In this research, experiments were extended to the methane flame. Nine nozzles were used- eight was evenly located along the perimeter of the imaginary circle and one at the geometric center. The space between nozzles, s, the exit velocity and the role of the jet from the center nozzle were considered. On the contrary to the propane non-premixed case, the maximum blowout velocity for the methane diffusion flame was achieved when small amount of fuel is supplied through the center nozzle and s/d equals around 21. In the laminar region, the flame attached at the center nozzle anchored the outer lifted flames.

  • In order to investigate the effect of turbulent intensity on combustion characteristics, new flame factor model was developed. The principal study is the evaluation of interaction of swirl, tumble and unstrutural component of flow characteristics and correlation between turbulent intensity and flame factor. Computational and experimental study has been, performed such as quasi-dimensional cycle simulation, three dimensional flow analysis, engine performance test and diagnostic simulation. From these studies, it was found that flame factor was a function of engine speed and turbulent intensity.

  • This study has numerically modelled the combustion processes of the turbulent swirling premixed lifted flames in the low-swirl burner (LSB). In these turbulent swirling premixed flames, the four tangentially-injected air jets induce the turbulent swirling flow which plays the crucial role to stabilize the turbulent lifted flame. In the present approach, the turbulence-chemistry interaction is represented by the level-set based flamelet model. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional computations are made for the various swirl numbers and nozzle length. In terms of the centerline velocity profiles and flame liftoff heights, numerical results are compared with experimental data The three-dimensional approach yields the much better conformity with agreements with measurements without any analytic assumptions on the inlet swirl profiles, compared to the two-dimensional approach. Numerical clearly results indicate that the present level-set based flamelet approach has realistically simulated the structure and stabilization mechanism of the turbulent swirling stoichiometric and lean-premixed lifted flames in the low-swirl burner.

충격파가 초음속 수소-공기 화염의 안정한계에 미치는 영향 (Measured Effect of Shock Wave on the Stability Limits of Supersonic Hydrogen-Air Flames)

  • 충격파가 초음속 수소-공기 제트화염의 화염 안정한계에 미치는 영향을 충격파의 강도와 위치를 변화시키면서 연구하였다. 이러한 목적으로 마하수 2.5의 초음속 연소기 벽면에 쐐기를 부착시켜 경사 충격파를 발생시켰다. 본 실험은 충격파가 초음속 화염에 미치는 영향을 연구한 최초의 실험연구이다. 쉬릴렌 가시화 사진과 벽면 정압, 화염 안정 한계를 측정하였으며 충격파가 없는 경우와 비교하였다. 보염 재순환 영역에 충격파를 적절히 간섭시킴으로써 화염 안정 한계가 대폭 개선되었다. 화염 안정한계가 대폭 향상된 이유는 충격파에 의해 발생한 역압력구배로 화염안정화에 중요한 아음속 재순환 영역의 크기가 증대된 때문으로 여겨진다.
