  • Image-based motion capture technology is often used in making realistic computer animation. In this paper we try to implement image-based motion rendering by fixing a camera to a PC. Existing image-based rendering algorithms have disadvantages of high computational burden or low accuracy. The former disadvantage causes too long making-time of an animation. The latter disadvantage degrades reality in making realistic animation. To compensate for those disadvantages of the existing approaches, this paper presents an image-based motion rendering algorithm with low computational load and high estimation accuracy. In the proposed approach, an incremental motion rendering algorithm with low computational load is analyzed in the respect of optimal control theory and revised so that its estimation accuracy is enhanced. If we apply this proposed approach to optic motion capture systems, we can obtain additional advantages that motion capture can be performed without any markers, and with low cost in the respect of equipments and spaces.

A survey study on recognition of periapical radiography in dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생의 치근단 촬영법 인식에 관한 조사 연구)

  • Objectives : This study was carried out in order to obtain basic data for students' efficient acquirement and instruction of radiography technology in the future by surveying dental hygiene students' recognition of periapical radiography. Methods : This study carried out a questionnaire survey targeting dental hygiene students from December 2009 to December 2010, and obtained the following results. Results : 1. As a result of examining recognition on periapical radiography, the bisecting angle technique was indicated to be averagely $3.84{\pm}0.566$ points. The paralleling technique was indicated to be $2.66{\pm}0.701$ points. 2. As a result of examining about problems given the bisecting angle technique, what had been most difficult given the bisecting angle technique was indicated to be the highest in cone positioning with 34.2%. The most difficulty given deciding on the X-ray vertical-angel irradiation direction was indicated to be the highest with 66.9% in adjusting the cone direction on the virtual bisector. 3. As a result of examining about problems given the paralleling technique, what had been most difficult in the process of the paralleling technique was indicated to be the highest with 56.7% in fixing the film immobilization device inside the mouth. Conclusions : Examining the above results, it is considered that there is a need of understanding morphological and anatomical structure inside the mouth in order to reduce the mistake rate given the periapical radiography, and that it is important to increase skill level by repetitively shooting several times with having enough time.

Development of a Moisture Content Sensor for Rapeseed as Biodiesel Raw Material (바이오디젤 원료용 유채 함수율 센서 개발)

  • This study was conducted to develop a moisture sensor for rapeseed, a bio-diesel material. A typical rapeseed, SUNMANG, was used as a raw material. The rapeseed moisture content sensor consists of three components, such as upper and bottom electrodes, a test material dish, and a fixing housing. To evaluate the performance, a data acquisition system was equipped with the rapeseed moisture sensor, computer, printer, and main board. The findings of this study were: 1) the rapeseed moisture content was inversely proportional to electric resistance, and 2) values of electric resistance were recorded in a range of $10{\sim}100\;M{\Omega}$, depending upon a change of the moisture content. The determination of coefficient ($R^2$) and standard error between rapeseed moisture content and electric resistance were 0.9921 and ${\pm}0.289$, which indicated a highly correlative relationship. The response of rapeseed moisture sensor to temperature change was also observed for further performance test. Satisfying results were obtained, such as the determination of coefficient ($R^2$) of 0.9918, predicted standard error of ${\pm}0.373%$, deviation of 0.103%, measurement error of $0.14{\sim}0.48%$, standard deviation of $0.01{\sim}0.22%$, and measurement time of 28.3 s per point, respectively.

  • In this paper, we perform analysis of the performance of low-power communication technology, IEEE 802.15.4 MAC (Media Access Control) protocol used in internet of things. Wide variety of devices in internet of things generate different kinds of traffic characteristics and heterogeneous traffic environment is therefore considered in contrast to existing works. With the help of the Markov chain the performance of the protocol is derived as a function of the MAC parameters and based on the results a framework to determine energy-efficient optimal MAC parameters for applications in real time is proposed. Proposed method is shown to be more efficient in terms of energy consumption through performance comparison over application scenarios compared to operation with fixing MAC parameters, and its practicability on small devices with limited computing power is verified through evaluating the accuracy and speed of the proposed framework.

A Parallel Sphere Decoder Algorithm for High-order MIMO System (고차 MIMO 시스템을 위한 저 복잡도 병렬 구형 검출 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a low complexity parallel sphere decoder algorithm is proposed for high-order MIMO system. It reduces the computational complexity compared to the fixed-complexity sphere decoder (FSD) algorithm by static tree-pruning and dynamic tree-pruning using scalable node operators, and offers near-maximum likelihood decoding performance. Moreover, it also offers hardware-friendly node operation algorithm through fixing the variable computational complexity caused by the sequential nature of the conventional SD algorithm. A Monte Carlo simulation shows our proposed algorithm decreases the average number of expanded nodes by 55% with only 6.3% increase of the normalized decoding time compared to a full parallelized FSD algorithm for high-order MIMO communication system with 16 QAM modulation.

  • An arbiter-based simple phase decision circuit (PDC) optimized for high-resolution phase-to-digital converter made up of an analog phase-frequency detector and a time-to-digital converter for all-digital phase-locked loops is proposed. It can distinguish very small phase difference between two pulses even though it consumes lower power and has smaller input-to-output delay than the previously reported PDC. Proposed PDC is realized using 130-nm CMOS process and demonstrated by transistor-level simulations. A 5-bit P2D having no offset nor deadzone using the PDC is also demonstrated. A harmonic-lock-free and small-phase-offset delay-locked loop for fixing the P2D resolution regardless of PVT variations is also proposed and demonstrated.

Applying Method of Arch Bar in Maxillofacial Surgery without Orthodontic Treatment (교정치료 비적용 악안면수술에서 치열활봉 거치법)

  • Temporomandibular joint(TMJ) and dental occlusion are important in functional aspect as well as in cosmetic aspect for craniofacial surgery such as orthognathic and traumatic surgery. During these operations, appropriate maxillomandibular fixation(MMF) is especially necessary to conserve or reconstruct, dynamic TMJ and functional occlusion. Arch bar is one of the most popular method to gain proper MMF. Seventeen patients including 5 patients with mandibular fracture, 12 patients with orthognathic surgery(6 patients had relatively normal occlusion, however 6 patients had facial anomalies such as hemifacial microsomia with irregular occlusal plane.) were joined in this study. Arch bar was contoured on the dental cast, which was prepared for model surgery, prior to apply it on the facial anomaly patient. On using pre-contoured arch bar, patients felt better during the procedure and surgeons saved time. Moreover, well-contoured arch bar promises precise transmission of force on the bone, which implies surgeons do not need to worry about the occlusion while fixing bony structures. Authors suggest how to apply arch bar to satisfy basic theories about dental row and occlusion based on the experience. In addition, it is proposed to contour arch bar on the dental impression prior to apply it on the patient who has irregular and complex occlusal plane.

Optical information storage using diffraction properties of volume hologram in Fe-LiNbO$_3$ crystal (Fe-LiNbO$_3$결정에서 부피형 홀로그램의 회절특성을 이용한 광정보 저장)

  • In this paper, we experiment the characteristics of coupling coefficient, gain, diffraction efficiency and dependence of time determined by TWM(Two-Wave Mixing), using Fe-LiNbO$_3$ crystal(doped with 0.015Wt.%). From these results, we proposed to apply for optical memory application. The highest coupling angle of 14。 and maximum coupling coefficient of 6.9$cm^{-1}$ / are obtained at 514.5nm wavelength. Also, maximum diffraction efficiency is 54.13% when intensity ratio and writing beam incident angle are 0.1 and 14o, respectively. After fixing process, diffraction efficiency is 21.4%. As an example, we demonstrated the writing and reconstruct optical data using spatial light modualtor and angular multiplexing in most optimal condition.

A Survey on the Machanization for Beef Cattle Farm in West Chung-Nam (충남 서부지역의 육우 축산 기계화 실태조사)

  • In order to advise how to solve the problems and suggest on the mechanization of beef farm, the facilities and equipment for feeding and supplying water to the animals and transporting manure, and farm machineries of sixty-seven beef cattle farms in western Chungnam Province were surveyed. The results are as follows; 1. The proportions of number of heads per farm for above 70, 50∼70, 30∼50, 10∼30 and below 10 heads were 26, 18, 29, 13 and 13, respectively. The farms with the annual income more than 30 million won are consisted of 67.6% of the farms surveyed which showed to be higher than national average. 2. Only 19% of farms had automatic feeding system. Water was supplied by water cup(45%), opening and shutting water tab(27.6%) and bucket. 3. Cattle manure was transported by manpower (46%) by loader (34%) and by gravitational flow (14%). Most of manure(97%) was composted after treatment of drying or piling up outside. 4. More instruction and education were required because of the insufficient routine checking and fixing for farming machines, and unsystematic education for learning skills. 5. 65% of farms felt unsatisfied about after service(A/S) for their machinery. The main reason why the farmers were not satisfied was that it took too much time to be repaired. 6. When the farms purchased facilities, equipment and machinery, they did not analyze economic value of them and keep a diary. To make effective use of machines, the most available model for purchasing and managing of machines must be developed and applied to various scales of management.

Saturation Headway of Through Movement at Signalized Intersections in Urban Area (도시부 신호교차로에서 직진이동류의 포화차두시간)

  • The headway of vehicles entering an intersection is closely related with the saturation flow rate and is a basic parameter required for determining the saturation headway and the start-up lost delay. Since such headway value reflects the drivers' behaviors and features of the intersection, all intersections don't have an equal value, but are affected by number and location of their lanes, changing types, local characteristics and time zone. Accordingly, this study attempted to suggest proper values on the basis of data by investigating headway in lanes. Number of exclusive through lanes was divided into single lane, double lanes and triple lanes, the locations of lanes were divided into inside lane, central lane and outside lane. As a result of investigating the headway, single through lane, double through lanes-inside lane, and triple through lane-outside lane showed as 1.73 sec., 1.71 sec. and 1.93sec., respectively. The result of calculating the area factor of business areas by fixing 1.00 for the residental area and applying relation between headway and saturation flow rate was 0.96. In the case of start-up lost delay lead dual left turn and directional separation were 1.41 sec. and 3.27 sec., respectively, showing the great difference. Therefore, different start-up lost delay according to changing type should be applied.
