  • As riders do not sense damage to hub bearings due to the friction that occurs while riding, unexpected accidents can happen. Hub bearings can also be broken by cracks due to minor impact. Therefore, the vibration analysis of bike hub bearings is thought to be important. Two bike hub bearings were modelled in this study. The bolts at both ends of the bearings were fixed. The standard weight of a Korean man was assumed to be 70Kg, and a force of 700N was applied. As a result of this study, maximum deformations occurred in bolts at both ends of the central axis. Regarding displacement due to natural frequencies, Model 2 had less deformation than Model 1. Using the results of this study, the structural safety of the design of hub bearings can be estimated, and design plans for durable hub bearings can be suggested.

  • To increase the machine accuracy by improving the stiffness of spindle bearings, preload was applied to the spindle bearings. The methods of fixed position preload, convertible preload, constant pressure preload, and variable preload are used to apply the preload to the spindle bearing. The previous studies performed by the author of this study were variable preload methods using rubber pressure and centrifugal force based on mechanical systems. This study proposed a toggle joint mechanism that could be applied to variable preload method using centrifugal force and rubber pressure to increase the preload. Also, a finite element analysis was conducted to predict the deformation of the rubber and change of the preload. And the analysis results showed that the preload by the device using rubber pressure only was increased by the toggle joint mechanism using rubber pressure.

  • A high-speed spindle can be very sensitive to rotating mass unbalance which has harmful effect on many machine tools. Therefore, the balancing procedure to reduce vibration in rotating system is certainly needed for all high-speed spindles. So, balancing procedure was performed with a spindle-bearing system for CNC automatic lathe by using numerical procedure. The spindle is supported by the angular contact ball bearings and the motor rotor is fixed at the middle of spindle. The spindle-bearing system has been investigated using combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The balancing was performed through influence coefficient method and the comparison was made by whirl responses between before balancing and after balancing. As a result, balancing of simple spindle model reduced whirl orbit magnitude in case of a completely assembled spindle model.

  • This paper presents the results of the parametric study on the longitudinal behavior of 2-span continuous railway bridge. To perform the main objective of this paper, the effects of pier shaft stiffness, pier height, the size of pier foundation, and the bearing stiffness on the longitudinal behavior of the bridges are studied. Within the limits of this study, the research result has revealed that the variation of the fixed pier is more effective than that of the moved pier. In addition, the control of the hearing stiffness is much less expensive than that of any other parameters.

  • Recent severe earthquakes in and around the vital public places worldwide indicate the severe vulnerability of ground excitation to be assailed. Reducing the effect of seismic lateral load in structural design is an important conception. Essentially, seismic isolation is required to shield the superstructure in such a way that the building superstructure would not move when the ground is shaking. This study explores the effectiveness, design, and practical feasibility of base isolation systems to reduce seismic demands on buildings of varying elevations. Thus, static and dynamic analyses were conducted based on site-specific bi-directional earthquakes for base-isolated as well as fixed-based buildings. Remarkably, it was discovered that isolators used in low-rise to high-rise structures tend to significantly decrease the structural responses of seismic prone buildings. The higher allowable horizontal displacement induces structural flexibility and ensure good structural health of the building stories. Reinforcement from vertical and horizontal members can be reduced in significant amounts for BI buildings. Thus, although incorporating base isolators increases the initial outlay, it considerably diminishes the total structural cost.

  • The main scope of this study is to define such system of space composition factor to diversify the interior space of the apartment housing. Staring from the space analysis, identification of the design factors, characters of the anthropometry for the dwelling behavior, and analyzed dimensions of the interior furniture from the market data have uniformly integrated to engage with such system for innovation and diversification of the space design method. The elements of the composition factors are as follows: 1. Structural elements - $\circled1$Bearing wall $\circled2$Ceiling $\circled3$Floor $\circled4$Structural column 2. furniture elements - $\circled1$Fixed furniture $\circled2$Movable furniture $\circled3$Non-bearing wall $\circled4$F1exible wall $\circled5$Void & Solid 3. Finished material elements - $\circled1$Structural material $\circled2$Doub1e shell $\circled3$Color & Tone $\circled4$Lighting system For the design system selected space in restricted in 3way directional axis X,Y,Z to form its volume and direction of the space composition factors. X-axis is stands for horizontal length of the factor, Y-axis is for the space depth, and lastly, Z-axis is for the hieghts of the space based on anthropometris.

  • A 6-year-old, 36.5 kg castrated male Golden Retriever presented for revision surgery for left total hip replacement. The patient underwent removal of the cup and head implants due to unmanageable prosthetic hip dislocation, despite revision surgery. On physical examination, the dog showed persistent weight-bearing lameness after exercise of the left hindlimb with mild muscle atrophy. Radiographic examination revealed dorsolateral displacement of the femur with a remnant stem and bony proliferation around the cranial and caudal acetabulum rims. The surgical plan was to apply the dual mobility cup to increase the range of motion and jump distance to correct soft tissue elongation and laxity caused by a prolonged period of craniodorsal dislocation of the femur. The preparation of the acetabulum for cup fixation was performed with a 29-mm reamer, and the 29.5-mm outer shell was fixed with five 2.4-mm cortical screws. The head and medium neck of the dual-mobility system were placed on the cup, and the hip joint was reduced between the neck and stem. The dog exhibited slight weight bearing on a controlled leash walk the day after surgery. The patient was discharged 2 weeks postoperatively without any complications. Six months postoperatively, osseointegration and a well-positioned cup implant were observed, and the dog showed excellent limb function without hip dislocation until 18 months of phone call follow-up.

  • Among soft ground improvement methods by using granular material, the sand compaction pile method has been widely utilized in Korea, but, as a result of shortage and increase of unit price of sand, a necessity of an alternative method has been required. In this study, a series of in-situ static load tests for crushed-stone compaction piles were performed. Pile diameter was fixed to 700mm and areas of loading plates were changed. The static load tests were performed for area replacement ratios of 20, 30 and 40% respectively. Based on the test results, bearing capacity of single crushed-stone compaction pile was estimated. It showed that the settlement decreases as the replacement ratio increases. Also, a yielding capacity equation of the crushed-stone compaction pile considering replacement ratio was suggested.

  • In this study, considering the expansion/contraction behavior of the upper structure at all times and the abnormal behavior of the receiving friction elements that allow horizontal movement during earthquakes, a port receiving test body simulating the protrusion of the friction elements was created and the modulus performance was evaluated. In order to confirm the influence of the friction element's projection, the friction element's degree of separation was divided into four stages, and the shear behavior of the test specimen and the friction coefficient were confirmed. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the friction load increases as the protrusion degree of the friction element increases. On the other hand, as the degree of protrusion of the coefficient of friction increases, the coefficient of friction also increases. It was confirmed that damage to the friction elements during use increases the coefficient of friction, hinders smooth expansion and contraction of the upper structure, and causes stress concentration at the fixed-end support.
