  • Precision livestock monitoring promises greater management efficiency for farmers and higher welfare standards for animals. Recent studies on video-based animal activity recognition and tracking have shown promising solutions for understanding animal behavior. To achieve that, surveillance cameras are installed diagonally above the barn in a typical cattle farm setup to monitor animals constantly. Under these circumstances, tracking individuals requires addressing challenges such as occlusion and visual appearance, which are the main reasons for track breakage and increased misidentification of animals. This paper presents a framework for multi-cattle tracking in closed barns with appearance and motion models. To overcome the above challenges, we modify the DeepSORT algorithm to achieve higher tracking accuracy by three contributions. First, we reduce the weight of appearance information. Second, we use an Ensemble Kalman Filter to predict the random motion information of cattle. Third, we propose a supplementary matching algorithm that compares the absolute cattle position in the barn to reassign lost tracks. The main idea of the matching algorithm assumes that the number of cattle is fixed in the barn, so the edge of the barn is where new trajectories are most likely to emerge. Experimental results are performed on our dataset collected on two cattle farms. Our algorithm achieves 70.37%, 77.39%, and 81.74% performance on HOTA, AssA, and IDF1, representing an improvement of 1.53%, 4.17%, and 0.96%, respectively, compared to the original method.

  • Particle and noise are effectively used to implement unspecific VFX like an explosion, magic. Particle can create freely but, The more usage, the higher CPU/GPU usage. This paper using polygon mesh that is hard to change but consumes fixed resources to overcome the demerit of particle and reduce CPU/GPU usage. Also, using shader, apply noise texture that is suitable unspecific pattern to vertex and surface texture mapping of polygon mesh for implement VFX in unity. As a result of experiment, shader applied sphere polygon mesh show 2~4ms CPU, 1~2ms GPU usage in profiler. Also It has been shown that shader can be used to implement unspecific VFX.

  • High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)/H.265 is a new video coding standard which is known as high compression ratio compared to the previous standard, Advanced Video Coding (AVC)/H.264. Due to achievement of high efficiency, HEVC sacrifices the time complexity. To apply HEVC to the market applications, one of the key requirements is the fast encoding. To achieve the fast encoding, exploiting thread-level parallelism is widely chosen mechanism since multi-threading is commonly supported based on the multi-core computer architecture. In this paper, we implement both the Tile-level parallelism and the Frame-level parallelism for HEVC encoding on multi-core platform. Based on the implementation, we present two approaches in combining the Tile-level parallelism with Frame-level parallelism. The first approach creates the fixed number of tile per frame while the second approach creates the number of tile per frame adaptively according to the number of frame in parallel and the number of available worker threads. Experimental results show that both improves the parallel scalability compared to the one that use only tile-level parallelism and the second approach achieves good trade-off between parallel scalability and coding efficiency for both Full-HD (1080 x 1920) and 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) sequences.

  • Purpose: This study compares the prognosis (the survival rate and marginal bone loss) of resorbable blasting media (RBM) surface implants and sandblasting with large-grit and acid-etching (SLA) surface implants in the early loading. Methods: This study targeted 123 patients treated by implants installation from January 2008 to March 2010. The loading was initiated in the maxilla within three to four months and in the mandible within one to two months. The types of restoration were single crown and fixed partial prosthesis. Those functioned over one year. The implants were classified by the surface of implants as Group 1: RBM surface (GS III; OSSTEM, Busan, Korea) and, Group 2: SLA surface (Superline; Dentium, Seoul, Korea). The groups were categorized by maxilla and mandible and compared by survival rate, marginal bone loss through clinical records evaluation, and radiographic measurements. Results: The marginal bone loss in the maxilla was $0.14{\pm}0.34mm$ (Group 1) and $0.30{\pm}0.37mm$ (Group 2), a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). In the mandible those were $0.28{\pm}0.54mm$ (Group 1) and $0.20{\pm}0.33mm$ (Group 2), not significant (P>0.05). There was no significant difference of marginal bone loss between maxilla and mandible by groups. During observation there was no implant failure, a survival rate of 100%. Conclusion: Both surfaces showed an excellent survival rate, and the marginal bone loss was not substantial.

  • In this paper, we propose Adaptive GOP Structure to enhance the coding performance of scalable video coding in JVT. Adaptive GOP Structure considers temporal variances of video sequence. In general, SVC encodes a video sequence with fixed GOP size. The coding performance is varying according to the temporal variance of a video sequence. Thus, Adaptive GOP Structure method is proposed. It selects GOP size adaptively by considering temporal variance of video sequence. In the experiments, the propose method showed the enhanced coding performance in most sequences. The PSNR gain of Crew sequence is up to 0.63 dB.

  • By adopting the MAC(Media Access Control) protocol which enables to pack multiple MPDUs(MAC-level Protocol Data Units) into a single PPDU(Physical Layer Protocol Data Unit), IEEE 802.11n WLAN supports high throughput. Up to now, there have been a lot of existing channel information-based A-MPDU schemes dynamically determining the number of MSDUs according to the wireless channel condition information which is sent from the receiver to sender. However, the channel information-based scheme has a serious drawback having a high system overhead due to the frequent channel feedback information. To reduce the system overhead, the proposed BA-base dynamic A-MPDU scheme simply chooses the number of MSDUs to be retransmitted by not the frequent channel feedback information but the BA signal representing whether MPSUs belonging to the A-MPDU are received or not. Through NS-2(Network Simulator-2), we found that the proposed scheme had higher throughput and lower packet error rate than the existing fixed A-MPDU scheme.

  • See-through HMD type 3D display can provide an advantage of us seeing virtual 3D data used stereoscopic display simultaneously with real object(MR-Mixed Reality). But, when user sees stereoscopic display for a long time, not only eye fatigue phenomenon happens but also de-focus phenomenon of data happens by fixed focal point of virtual data. Dissatisfaction of focus adjustment of eye can be considered as the important reason of this phenomenon. In this paper, We proposed an application of multi-focus in see-through HMD as a solution of this problem. As a result, we confirmed that the focus adjustment coincide between the object of real world and the virtual data by multi-focus in monocular condition.

  • For the purpose of compromising hosts, attackers including infected hosts initially perform a portscan using IP addresses in order to find vulnerable hosts. Considerable research related to portscan detection has been done and many algorithms have been proposed and implemented in the network intrusion detection system (NIDS). In order to distinguish portscanners from remote hosts, most portscan detection algorithms use a fixed threshold that is manually managed by the network manager. Because the threshold is a constant, even though the network environment or the characteristics of traffic can change, many false positives and false negatives are generated by NIDS. This reduces the efficiency of NIDS and imposes a high processing burden on a network management system (NMS). In this paper, in order to address this problem, we propose an automatic portscan detection system using an fast increase slow decrease (FISD) scheme, that will automatically and adaptively set the threshold based on statistical data for traffic during prior time periods. In particular, we focus on reducing false positives rather than false negatives, while the threshold is adaptively set within a range between minimum and maximum values. We also propose a new portscan detection algorithm, rate of increase in the number of failed connection request (RINF), which is much more suitable for our system and shows better performance than other existing algorithms. In terms of the implementation, we compare our scheme with other two simple threshold estimation methods for an adaptive threshold setting scheme. Also, we compare our detection algorithm with other three existing approaches for portscan detection using a real traffic trace. In summary, we show that FISD results in less false positives than other schemes and RINF can fast and accurately detect portscanners. We also show that the proposed system, including our scheme and algorithm, provides good performance in terms of the rate of false positives.

  • In this paper, we propose the converged profile and authentication scheme for supporting converged media services of broadcasting & communications convergence in fixed mobile convergence networks. The proposed scheme supports the management of access, service, mobility and IPTV profiles on subscriber and a function of open API(Application Program Interface) for providing the subscriber profile for the third party service provider with the PUSH/PULL method. The open API is based on a web service and a REST(Representational State Transfer) and provides various services for the third party service provider with ease. In addition, the proposed scheme supports a function of SSO(Single Sign-on). After user succeeded in establishing an access connection, user can sustain the same authentication state with this function although connected access network is changed or IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) service network is attached. We evaluate and analyze the performance of the proposed scheme through the implementation of CUPS(Converged User Profile Server) system test-bed.

  • Mechanical stimulation is known to play a vital role on the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to pre-osteoblasts. In this research, we developed a tensile cell stimulator, composed of a DC motor-driven actuator and LVDT sensor for measuring linear displacement, to study the effects of tensile stress on osteogenic differentiation of MSCs. First, we demonstrated the reliability of this device by showing the uniform strain field in the silicon substrate. Secondly, we investigated the effects of tensile stretching on osteogenic differentiation. We imposed a pre-set cyclic strain at a fixed frequency on cell monolayer cultured on a flexible silicon substrate while varying its amplitude and duration. 60 min of resting period was allowed between 30 min of cyclic stretching and this cycle is repeated up to 7 days. Under the combined stimulation with osteogenic media and mechanical stretching, the osteogenic markers such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osterix, and osteopontin began to get expressed as early as 4 days of stimulation, which is much shorter than what is typically required for osteogenic media induced differentiation. Moreover, different markers were induced at different magnitudes of the applied strains. Lastly, for the case of ALP, we observed the antagonistic effects of osteogenic media when combined with mechanical stretching.
