  • As the population grows, the importance of the fishery industry continues to rise. It is therefore vital to support and promote sustainable fishery industry. However, the fishery production has been declining, mainly due to overdevelopment and depletion in fishery resources and stricter limits on development limits caused by growing concerns over the marine environment and ecology. Recently, international activities related to marine environmental and its ecosystems conservation, have been vigorously pursued. The United Nations Convention on The Law of The Sea has stipulated the protection and conservation of the marine environment, and the implementation of fishery resources development, made in harmony with the environment and fishery resources and based upon scientific findings and principles has become important. Accordingly, fishery industry must pay thorough attention to marine ecological and environmental problems and its international fisheries regime. Fisheries development can affect fishery resources, their environment and ecosystems. Adverse ecological effects resulting from fishery resources development practices in general include overdevelopment and incidental development of non target species, physical degradation of seabed habitants and degraduation of water quality. It has now become more important than ever to build up fishery resources development while achieving the conservation of biodiversity and the marine environment, as well as the restoration of destroyed ecosystems. To maintain fishery industry, it is necessary to develop bioeconomic fishery production system and industry policies for the ESSD(environmentally sound and sustainable development) given that maintenance of a favourable marine environment will ensure the fishery resources productivity. These bioeconomic system and policies are necessary to ensure the sustainability and viability of the fishery industry under ESSD fisheries concepts.

  • The purpose of this study was to research the prevalence and related factors for the life care of knee osteoarthritis in Koreans agricultural and fishery population. Among the agricultural and fishery population over the age of 50, 816 people were chosen to analyze the prevalence of knee osteoarthritis and the prevalence odds ratio of social demographic or health related factors based on the primitive data of the 5th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2012). The prevalence of knee osteoarthritis was 26.3% and, in demographic terms, female, elders, and individuals with low level of educational attainment and monthly income showed higher prevalence of knee osteoarthritis. In health related factors, nonsmokers and people with higher BMI showed higher prevalence of knee osteoarthritis. The present cross-sectional study showing the prevalence ratio and the prevalence odd ratio revealed a high incidence of knee osteoarthritis in Korean agricultural and fishery populations.

  • A correction index of catchability (CIC) was derived using a 6 year research data set to examine the seasonal variation in catchability for the night time prawn fishery in Albatross Bay. CIC reflects the composite effect of the monthly variation in size selectivity, emergenceburying behaviour and population density variation of prawn populations. The values of CIC for four dominant species, Metapenaeus endeavouri, M. ensis, Penaeus semisulcatus and P. esculentus, were examined. The value of CIC for M. endeavouri varied substantially and was the highest in August. The values of CIC for M. ensis were high during November to March and the seasonality was weaker than that for M. endeavouri. The monthly variation in CIC for P. semisulcatus reflected the seasonal variation in population density, being high during November to February. These results suggest that the catch ability of P. esculentus is steady throughout the year but it varies greatly on a seasonal basis for M. endeavouri.

  • Amur grayling, Thymallus grubii, is an important economic cold freshwater fish originally found in the Amur basin. Currently, suffering from loss of habitat and shrinking population size, T. grubii is restricted to the mountain river branches of the Amur basin. In order to assess the genetic diversity, population genetic structure and infer the evolutionary history within the species, we analysised the whole mitochondrial DNA control region (CR) of 95 individuals from 10 rivers in China, as well as 12 individuals from Ingoda/Onon and Bureya River throughout its distribution area. A total of 64 variable sites were observed and 45 haplotypes were identified excluding sites with gaps/missing data. Phylogenetic analysis was able to confidently predict two subclade topologies well supported by maximum-parsimony and Bayesian methods. However, basal branching patterns cannot be unambiguously estimated. Haplotypes from the mitochondrial clades displayed local homogeneity, implying a strong population structure within T. grubii. Analysis of molecular variance detected significant differences among the different geographical rivers, suggesting that T. grubii in each river should be managed and conserved separately.

  • Setting a Problem : Developing industrialization and urbanization has been accompanying the outflow of farming-and fisheries village's population, and brings upon lowering of number of fishermen and their productive efficiency as a result. The point of issue of such an outflow of fishermen which is a cause of the shortage of fisheries man-power should be considered through the analysis of the present state of fishery, and then 'How should the normative fisheries man-power policy be performed?' has to be thought after the investigation upon self-existable fishermen's successor-cultivation(SFSC) project which has been driven forward by government. Method of Study : In order to seek concretely a rational way to achieve SFSC undertaking successfully, the teleological method is adopted fundamentally. But the analysis on the fisheries present state centering on fisheries population and the fishery-orientedness of fishermen who are selected randomly in five islands of Jeonranamdo-Province and Kyeongsangnamdo-Province has been tried with the object of groping for a successful and purposive way of successor-cultivation. And the controversial point is brought out through the analysis of the first year's result which SFSC project has been undertaken in 1981. The above-mentioned affair is especially studied on the basic attitude which 'fishery' is a 'profession'.

  • In recent years devastation on coasts worldwide has led to barren grounds resulting in the loss of the natural population of many marine organisms and macrophytes. Furthermore, fishery resources such as abalone, fish and seaweeds have been depleted (Serisawa and Ohno, 1995). Since 1980, many fishery scientists and phycologists have tried to create artificial seaweed beds using various technique in order to recover lost seaweed beds (Ohno, 1993; Choi et al., 2000). • This article is to estimate the fishing frequency function in Korean recreational fishery with respect to socio-economic characteristics of anglers. First, the study described the characteristics of the entire angler population on the view points of 9 socio-economic variables. And then, the study divided the total angler population into three groups of in-land, sea, and mixed angler populations in order to investigate the differences in their characteristics. The study could confirm the existence of differences in regions, size of regions, and educational levels between the in - land and the sea angler populations by testing heterogeneity in the frequency table. The fishing frequency function is estimated using Poisson regression model in order to accomodate the count data(non-negative discrete random variable) aspects of the fishing frequency. However, the model specification error is found due to overdispersion of data. The model exhibits the lack of goodness of fit. The negative binomial regression model is adopted to cure the overdispersion of the data as an alternative estimation methodology. Finally, the study can confirm overdispersion does not exist in the model any more and the goodness of fit improved significantly to the reasonable level. The results of estimation of fishing frequency population modeled by the negative binomial regression models are following. The three variables of region, sex, and education have effects on the decision making process of fishing frequency in the case of in-land recreation fishery. On the other hand, the three variables of sex, age, and marriage status do the same job in the case of sea angler population. Among the left-over variables, both income and use of Internet variables now affect on the process in mixed angler population. Finally, the results of whole angler population show that all of the previous variables are proven to be statistically significant due to the summation of data with all three sub-groups of angler population.

  • Agro-fishing villages of agriculture and fishery are suffering deepening gap with urban areas due to depreciation from their products market opening pressure. They are facing problems of decreasing and aging population, poor settlement environment, etc. and losing their vitality for their low productivity and lack of young labor force. These issues of agro-fishing villages of agriculture and fishery are divided in so various items and classes that it is plausible to approach in a way to connect each issue in a small frame of each by selecting sub topics according to each item and each class rather than to solve the issues in a large frame. Chungchungnam-do is approaching the issues through 3 agro innovations(agro fishery, agro fishing villages, agro fishing people) in local government level and Durae enterprises are solving local problems through the self supporting residents' community business by utilizing local resources. This study is to draw clues and solutions to vitalize agro fishery villages through community businesses by detailed reviews and research on cases of Durae enterprises' characteristics and their vitalizations and provide a new alternative plan to agro fishery villages losing their vitality and demolishing their communities.

  • This study aims to understand the effect of millennial transformational leadership (MTL) on organizational performance in Indonesian Fishery startups. The population of this study included select fishery startups in Indonesia based on the data released by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia and Digital Fishery Network. This study used the statistical method of PLS-SEM to analyze the data. The findings show that the MTL has no direct positive relationship with organizational performance; MTL has a direct positive relationship with organizational agility; MTL has a direct positive relationship with IT capability; IT capability has a direct positive relationship with organizational agility; organizational agility has a direct positive relationship with organizational performance in fishery startups in Indonesia during this pandemic era. It is suggested that future researches use covariance-based-structural equation modeling which is able to test the research model's feasibility. Roles of mediating variables in addition to the main variables-for example, organizational agility as a mediating variable on the relationship between MTL and organizational performance - are also suggested to be examined. In spite of the limitations, the model developed is still interesting to investigate and is expected to enhance the literature on transformational leadership.
