Fish Fauna and Guild Compositions in Geum River Watershed

  • This study was to analyze fish composition and ecological indicator characteristics from eight sampling sites of Geum River, October 2007. Total number of family and species sampled were 9 and 40. The most dominant family was Cyprinidae (27 species, 85%), and then followed by Cobitidae, Odomtobutidae, and Gobiidae. Constancy values of Zacco platypus and Zacco temminckii were 1.00 and 0.30, respectively, and the relative abundance of Acheilognathus koreensis and Pseudogobio esocinus were greater than 5% of the total. The number of Korean endemic species sampled in this Geum River study was 7 family 19 species, which is 47.5% of total 40 species, and endangered species of Pseudopungtungia nigra and Gobiobotia brevibarba were only 0.5% of the total and these species were only distributed within the upstream regions. Exotic species, Micropterus salmoides, which is known as large-mouth bass, were observed in two sites of G3 and G7. Analytical results of fish community showed that community dominance index was 0.19, which is low, and the species evenness index (0.74), diversity index (2.03), and richness index (3.00) appeared high. These results indicate that structure of fish community is stable in the Geum River. According to various guilds analysis, the relative abundance of tolerant and omnivores at all sites were 40% and 47% of the total, respectively. This monitoring data may contribute changes of fish fauna and compositions in relation to habitat modifications and chemical water quality degradations in the future.

남해 앵강만 잘피밭 어류의 월별 종조성 변화 (Seasonal Variation in Fish Species Composition in Seagrass Bed of Aenggang Bay in the South Sea of Korea)

  • 경남 남해 앵강만 잘피밭에서 2013년 10월부터 2014년 9월까지 소형 지인망을 이용하여 월별 어류군집의 특징 및 종조성을 조사하였다. 조사 기간 동안 총 6목 22과 35종 3,174개체, 3,137 g이 채집되었다. 우점종은 살망둑이었으며, 다음으로 베도라치, 그물코쥐치, 날개망둑, 미역치 순으로 채집되었다. 앵강만 잘피밭을 이용하는 어류들은 시기를 달리하여 출현하였으며, 채집된 대부분의 어류는 크기가 작은 유어였다. 우점종의 출현 양상을 고려할 때 유어는 수심이 얕은 잘피밭을 성육장으로 이용하고 성장함에 따라 보다 깊은 수심의 잘피밭으로 서식지를 이동하는 것으로 생각된다. 앵강만 잘피밭에서는 남해안 잘피밭에서 수행된 선행연구들에서는 보고되지 않은 날 매퉁이, 쑤기미, 꼬치고기 그리고 흰점꺼끌복이 채집되었다.

한국 연안산 수산물의 일반성분 조성 및 영양평가 (Proximate Composition and Nutritional Evaluation of Fisheries Products from the Korean Coast)

  • To measure the proximate composition of fisheries products and to evaluate their nutritional value, we collected individuals from 101 species from the east (Pohang), west (Gunsan), and south (Tongyeong) coasts of Korea: 51 fish species, 32 species of molluscan shellfish (Gastropoda and Bivalvia), 6 species of Cephalopoda, 8 species of Crustacea, and 4 other species. The proximate composition of fish was $75.3{\pm}5.0%\;moisture,\;19.1{\pm}2.7%\;protein,\;3.8{\pm}4.1%\;lipids,\;0.4{\pm}0.3%$ carbohydrates, and $1.4{\pm}0.3%$ ash. The proximate composition of molluscan shellfish was $79.1{\pm}3.2%\;moisture,\;14.2{\pm}3.2%\;protein,\;0.7{\pm}0.6%\;lipids,\;3.9{\pm}1.9%$ carbohydrates, and $2.1{\pm}0.4%$ ash. We observed clear regional variation in the lipid content of some fish species. Specifically, the lipid content of gizzard shad (Clupanodon punctatus) was highest in the autumn, while the lipid contents of red seabream (Pagrus major) and purple pike conger (Muraenesox cinereus) were highest in the winter. The daily average intake of the proximate composition through fisheries products consisted of 11.7 g of protein, 1.9 g of lipids, 1.1 g of carbohydrates, and 1.1 g of ash. The respective intakes of protein, lipids, and carbohydrates from fisheries products were about 19.3, 3.6, and 0.3% of the nutrient reference values set by the Korean Food & Drug Administration. Therefore, fisheries products playa very important role as a source of protein.

여수 제도 연안에서 잘피밭에 서식하는 어류의 종조성 및 계절변동 (Species composition and seasonal variations of fish in Eelgrass(Zostrera marina) Bed in coastal waters off Jedo, Yeosu)

  • In 2012, fishes caught by three-side fyke net in the coastal waters of Jedo were assessed for species composition and seasonal fluctuation in their abundance. The fish were caught at two research stations (St.) and were found to comprise 53 species, 39 families, and 9 orders. The dominant species were Takifugu niphobles, Lateolabrax maculatus, and Acanthopagrus schlegelii. To gain a measure of their biodiversity, all the species were assessed for their number, richness, diversity, evenness, and dominance. The highest and lowest number of total caught fish individuals was recorded in summer and winter, respectively. The diversity index was the highest in summer and lowest in winter. The evenness index was the highest in summer and lowest in spring. The richness index was highest in summer and lowest in winter. Furthermore, the dominance index was highest in spring and lowest in autumn.

황해중앙부에서 저층트롤에 의해 어획된 하계의 어류 종조성 및 분포특성 (2008-2014) (Community Composition and Distribution of Fish Species Collected by Bottom Trawl from the Middle of the Yellow Sea in Summer (2008-2014))

  • The community composition and distribution of fish species in the middle of the Yellow Sea were investigated in summer from 2008 to 2014. A total of 72 demersal fish species from 46 families and 17 orders were collected. The most common species were Larimichthys polyactis, Engraulis japonicus, and Chaeturichthys hexane, which accounted for 72.0% of the total number of individuals while Liparis tanakai, Larimichthys polyactis, and Lophius litulon accounted for 67.8% of the total biomass. A cluster analysis based on the Bray-Curtis similarity revealed that the fish community fell into three groups, according to latitude. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and correlation analysis showed that variation in bottom water temperature could act as an indicator of variation in community structure and abundance of the dominant species. Characteristics of fish communities, such as the number of species, the total number of individuals ($/km^2$), and biomass ($/km^2$), were highly correlated with bottom water temperature and depth.

  • 가덕도 주변 해역에 서식하는 어류의 종조성과 계절 변동을 파악하기 위해 1998년 1월부터 12월까지 삼각망을 이용하여 어류를 매월 소조기에 채집하였다. 조사 기간 동안 채집된 어류는 69과 136종이었다. 전갱이 (Trachums japonicus), 전어 (Konosirus pu-nctatus), 숭어 (Mugil cephalus)가 우점하였는데, 이들 어종이 전체 채집 개체수와 생체량의 $63.7\%$$83.1\%$를 차지하였다 그밖에도 주둥치 (Leiognathus nuchalis), 복섬 (Takifugu niphobles), 고등어 (Scomber japonicus), 갈치 ( Trichiurus leptrus), 등줄숭어 (Chelon afnnis), 열동가리돔 (Apogon lineatus), 수조기 (NibeaalbiHora), 감성돔 (Acanthopagrus schlegeli) 등이 비교적 많이 채집되었다 채집 종수는 여름에 많았고 겨울에 적었다. 채집량은 봄에 높은 값을 보였으며, 겨울에 낮은 값을 보였다. 종다양도지수는 다른 계절에 비해 봄에 낮은 값을 보였다.

The effects of traditional frying method on proximate composition and energetic values of fish species from Karachi coast of Pakistan

  • The effect of pan frying method was evaluated for proximate composition of selected fish species Pampus argenteus, Lethrinus nebulosus and Acanthopagarus arabicus which were determined by standard procedures. Proximate compositions found in the frying fillets were different to the raw fish samples. The moisture content seems to decrease in all fried samples. The reason of moisture loss at the time of frying produced is excessive protein amount in fried fish as compare to raw fish. Protein content seemed to increase in Pampus argentus > Lethrinus nebulosus and >Acanthopagrus arabicus in their particular fried form. The outcomes shown that protein content was in the ranges of 14.83-25.07 g/100g in fried samples, while the fat content was between 3.76-9.77 g/100 g. The energy content was the highest in the fried fish Lethrinus nebulosus (236 kcal/100 g), Pampus argentus (161 kcal/100 g) and Acanthopagrus arabicus (135 kcal/100 g). The information achieved in this study would be very important to fish consumers, processors and nutritionists to academically increase their awareness regarding the nutrients contents in selected fish species.

마산만 해역에서 서식하는 어류군집의 종조성 및 출현량 변동 (Temporal Variation in Species Composition and Abundance of Fish Assemblages in Masan Bay)

  • 마산만 해역에서 유자망을 이용하여 어류군집의 종조성 및 출현량 변동을 조사하였다. 조사기간 동안 총 27종이 출현하였으며, 우점종은 전어(Konosirus punctatus), 숭어(Mugil cephalus), 멸치 (Engraulis japonicus), 샛돔 (Psenopsis anomala), 농어 (Lateolabrax japonicus), 주둥치(Leiognathus nuchalis), 등줄숭어(Chelon affinis), 전갱이(Trachurus japonicus)였는데, 이들 어종은 전체 개체수의 87.6%와 총 생체량의 95.4%를 차지하였다. 어류군집의 종조성 및 출현량 변동이 뚜렷하였는데, 출현 개체수는 2005년 3월과 7월, 생체량은 2005년 9월과 11월에 높게 나타났다. 한편 출현개체수 및 생체량은 모두 2005년 11월에 가장 낮게 나타났다. 수온이 어류군집의 종조성 및 출현량 변동에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 요인이었다. 유자망은 어획대상 어종이나 어획 체장에 강한 선택성을 가지고 있었지만, 상업성어종의 채집에 효율적이었다.

여수 금오도 연안에서 저층트롤에 어획되는 어류의 종조성 및 년 변동 (Fluctuation in abundance and species composition of fishes by bottom otter trawl in coastal waters of Geumodo, Yeosu)

  • A species composition and population structure of fish, collected 16 times by bottom otter trawl in the coast of Geumo Island, from February 2002 to November 2005, was investigated. The fish species caught by bottom otter trawl from year 2002 to 2005 was entirely 72 species, 41 classes, and 12 orders, and the number of appearance and biomass was 5,999 individuals and 287,902.1g, respectively, being of the Perciformes(31 species and 19 classes; 43.1% in total number of species appeared) as a dominant species. 638 individuals of Leiognathus nuchalis which was 10.6% in total fish were appeared and 465 individuals of Konosirus punctatus(7.8%), 449 individuals of Engraulis japonicus(7.8%). biomass of Sebastes schlegeli was 33,258.7g as a dominant species(11.6% in total fish appeared) and 18,821.1g of Liparis agassizii(6.5%), 16,708.0g of Konosirus punctatus(5.8%). The diversity index of species per months of the collected by a small otter trawl in coastal water of Geumodo from year 2002 to 2005 was 2.860-3.639 and the evenness index was 0.825-0.887 in case of dominance index was 0.224-0.268 against the evenness index. The similarity of community structure per yearly was very high because of the relative difference(0.006), which was the least in 2004 and 2005.

영산강 수계의 본류 및 지천에서 4대강 사업 전.후의 어류분포 및 군집구조 특성 비교 (Comparative Analysis of Fish Fauna and Community Structures Before and After the Artificial Weir Construction in the Mainstreams and Tributaries of Yeongsan River Watershed)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze fish fauna and species compositions along with trophic guilds, tolerance indicators, and fish community conditions before weir construction (BWC) and after weir construction (AWC) in the Yeongsan River watershed. Total 45 and 44 fish species were sampled in BWC and AWC, respectively without any distinct differences through weir constructions. Fish fauna analysis revealed that the dominant species was the same, Zacco platypus with 24.3% and 20.8% in BWC and AWC, respectively. However, the subdominant species were Carassius auratus with 8.9% in BWC but Opsarichthys uncirostris amurensis with 20.3%, almost identical that of the dominant species AWC. This phenomenon showed the distinct modification of species composition in the watershed. We sampled the $1^{st}$ class endangered species, Liobagrus obesus in tributary stream as previously reported. Also Culter brevicauda was sampled in the mainstream of Yeongsan River watershed and this was the first sampled record in this watershed. One of the most important features were an increase of exotic species, such as Micropterus salmoides and Lepomis macrochirus, with 3.2% BWC vs. 10.2% AWC as well as the increase in tolerant species with 49.2% BWC vs. 73.7% AWC, indicating ecological degradation through weir construction. Overall, our results indicated that fish fauna and composition analyses showed distinct ecological degradations related to increases of exotic and tolerant species AWC. Further long-term studies of fish monitoring should be conducted in the future to configure existent status of river conditions and to provide key information in order to conserve the healthy ecosystem.
