Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors which are related to the maternal role performance of first-time mother to improve the health of infant. Specifically a basic hypothetical model was developed based on the previous study about a model of social networks. Method : The survey was done from January to February in 2001. Total 257 mothers who have four to twelve month old first-time baby was interviewed in five community health center around country(Seoul, Choung-ju, Asan, Cheon-an, Jeju). Finally 247 data was analyzed. Data analysis was done with LISREL 8.20 program for covariance structural analysis. Results : Compared to the hypothetical model, the revised model has become parsimonious and had a better fit to the data ($X^2=167.55$ (p값=.00), $x^2/df=1.48$, GFI=0.97, AGFI=0.95, RMR=0.049, NFI=0.98, NNFI=0.99, CN=222.53). All predictive variables of the maternal role of first-time mother explained 30% of total variance in model. Social network structural characteristics and social network interactional characteristics had significant effect on the emotional support and the information support. And social network interactional characteristics had significant effect on the service support, material support and social companionship support. The service support and social companion ship support had significant effect on the maternal role strain. The emotional support and the social companion ship support had significant effect on the maternal role of first-time mother. Conclusion : As the conclusion of this study, there is in need of the developing the programmes focussed on the social network for the first-time mother.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the reasons of Object Attachment Occurrence in infant and the meanings of it in his early development. For this purpose, the following hypotheses were supposed. 1. Infant's object Attachment will be a substitutional for mother attachment when he has opportunities to his mother during his first years. 2. Infant's Object Attachment will not impede the infant's normal development. In order to test this hypotheses 28 mothers whose infants show or have shown this phenomenon and 28 mothers whose infants show or have shown this phenomenon and 28 mothers whose infants do not show this one were interviewed about their child rearing practice and attitude. They were selected by the random sampling method from 310 household wives living at a delux Apt. in Seoul. The results obtained in this study are as follow ; 1. The less opportunities infant has for 1) his mother's breast feeding 2) having physical contact with his mother 3) spending time with his mother 4) receiving prompt response from his mother to his crying, the more he is apt to show this phenomenon. And infant whose first main attachment figure is not his mother also shows the same apt. 2. There was no difference between two groups in intelligence and personality. So it can be concluded that infant's Object Attachment is a substitutional phenomenon for mother attachment in the mother during his first years, and it does not impede infant's normal development.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for intervention development programs that could improve the attachment of first-time mothers. Methods: Data were collected from 148 Primipara Women in S city from April 1 to May 31, 2021. Data were processed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. Results: As a result of the study, mother-to-infant attachment was negatively correlated with maternal fatigue(r=-.65, p<.001) and anxiety level(r=-.62, p<.001). Maternal fatigue(β=-.52), anxiety level(β=-.48), Child care assistant(β=.10) affect the attachment of first-time mothers. Mother-to-infant attachment the total explanation power was 64.3%(F=89.19, p<.001). It is necessary to develop programs that reduce maternal fatigue and anxiety level based on factors affecting the mother-to-infant attachment of first-time mothers and improve the ability of the mother-to-infant attachment.
Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to establish a nursing intervention data base to improve maternal attachment. Method: The first group of mothers( control group), experienced their first physical contact with their infants after being discharged from the hospital. The second group (experimental group) practiced early initial mother-infant postpartum contact known as the most sensitive period for founding maternal-infancy attachment. The subjects of this study gave birth to normal infants at M hospital from Aug.25 to Sept.30, 2004. During the same time, data was collected through direct observation, with instruments designed by Cropley et al., to assess the behaviors of normal attachment. The statistical methods for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test with an SPSS program. Result: The group practicing initial mother-infant contact, showed a higher degree of physical and functional bonding than the group experiencing the first contact after discharge from the :10spital (control group)(p<.0l). The group practicing initial mother-infant contact, showed higher degrees of bonding attachment assessments than the group experiencing their first initial contact after their discharge from the hospital(p<.01). Conclusion: The group practicing early mother-infant contact, showed more maternal-infant interaction than the group experiencing their initial contact after their discharge from the hospital. These results show that maternal attachment behavior increases according with an early initial mother-infant contact.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of Sanhujori facility use among the first time mothers in Korea. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted, using focus group interview. Data were collected from the 24 first time mothers of 4 focus groups, who had given birth within 6 month and had used one of the Sanhujori facilities located in C province, Korea. After obtaining written informed consent from all participants, each session of the focus group was audio-taped and transcribed into verbatim. Data were analyzed using content analysis in order to identify significant themes. Results: Four major themes that emerged from the data were as follows. 1) Promoting postpartum physical recovery through a enough time with only focusing on herself, 2) Promoting postpartum psychological recovery through emotional and informational support with peer mothers, 3) Experiencing breast feeding difficulties and disappointing with unsatisfied help from health professionals, and 4) Lack of the professional education programs regarding parenting. Conclusion: Based on these results, it will be suggested that the various support programs by not only the peer mothers co-resided in Sanhujori facilities but also the health care professionals in the Sanhujori facilities should be developed for helping a "becoming a mother" of the first time mother in the Sanhujori facilities. In addition, qualified education and counseling program, especially for the successful breast feeding, should be provided by the health care professionals for improving mothering ability of the first time mother in the Sanhujori facilities.
The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of mother-adolescent communication time on the relationship between maternal meta-emotion philosophy, adolescent psychological adjustment and depression. The participants for this study comprised 181 first and second grade high school students and their mothers, residing in Seoul. The results of the analyses indicated that, (a) maternal disapproving is negatively correlated to adolescents' positive world views, and that maternal laissez-faire is also negatively correlated to adolescents' emotional responsiveness. However, a positive correlation is revealed between maternal emotion-coaching and adolescents' positive self-esteem. (b) It is evident that adolescents' emotional responsiveness is influenced by maternal laissez-faire, and that adolescents' positive self-esteem is influenced by emotion-coaching. It also indicated that mother-adolescent communication time is influenced by dismissing as well as laissez-faire meta-emotion philosophy. (c) It revealed that mother-adolescent communication time, in part, has a meaningful moderating effect on the relationship between meta-emotion philosophy and adolescent depression. Therefore, the present study indicates that even if maternal disapproving, laissez-faire, or dismissing is practiced, adolescent depression levels decrease as mother-adolescent time lengthens.
Brood caring behavior was observed in Amaurobius ferox (Araneae, Amaurobiidae), a semelparous subsocial spider, from cocoon construction until the emergence of spiderlings from the cocoon. Unlike most spiders, which emerge from cocoon by their own means, A. ferox mothers intervene in the process of the emergence of their young. I manipulated broods by removing the mother prior to emergence to determine the effects of maternal behavior on the emergence of spiderlings. My results showed that maternal intervention making the cocoon expansion and its exit, is not absolutely necessary for the emergence of A. ferox spiderlings from the cocoon. Nine clutches out of ten were able to get out of the cocoon by their own means without their mother's help. There was no difference between control groups ('with mother') and experimental groups ('without mother') in the number of spiderlings that emerged ($96.9{\pm}25.3$ vs. $90.4{\pm}14.2$, respectfully) and in the time from the beginning to the end of emergence ($36{\pm}12$ vs. $41{\pm}17$ hours). Time from eclosion until the emergence of the first individual in a clutch, however, was greater in the mother-absent group (3.5 days) than in the control group (2.0 days). The construction of the cocoon by the mother required always occurred in the same area within the retreat, and took approximately 6 hours, and the mother guarded the eggs during the incubation period. The emergence of the spiderlings followed a sigmoidal pattern. After emergence, the spiderlings formed a very compact group on the cocoon, which may be important in securing maternal care. The absence of cribellum and calamistrum, structures likely involved in their survival, observed in individuals of the first instar suggests that in the first stage of life, the spiderlings are dependent on their mother.
It is an important task to give adequate nutritions to infants and to wean properly for rapid growth. This study was conducted to survey on doing the weaning activities of the first-time mother. This study was to provide basic data of health teaching and nursing intervention for the promotion of ideal weaning activities. Survey was done from January to February in 2001. Total 444 mothers who have first-time baby under twelve month old were interviewed in five community health center around contry (Seoul, Choung-ju, Asan, Cheon-an, Jeju). The results are summarized as follows; Starting time of weaning was common in four month old(40.4%). Most common daily weaning times by age showed once(under 3 months), twice(4 to 7 months), three times(8 to 12 months). The younger, the more commercial weaning products(p<0.01). Education level showed relatively positive relation with home-made weaning food(p<0.05). Items showed low scores in 4 to 7 months group were starting new food item, waiting at least one week interval to new food, feeding by milk bottle, allowing grasping spoon, consulting pediatrician for problems after weaning, starting from morning, regular schedule. Items showed low scores in 8 to 12 months group were feeding whole egg rather than yolk only up to 12 months, keeping weaning interval were increased, feeding by milk bottle, trying various cooking method, not giving commerical cooking and instant food and unproper raw milk feeding. In weaning activities by general factors, mother age, health status, marriage duration, monthly income were statistically significant (p<0.05). To improve good weening activities, targetting on low maternal age and poor health status, and low income group, developing teaching materials and training program for items showed low scores and proper weaning time, type of easy home-made food and easy cooking method should be provided. Further study on effect of nursing intervention to improve weaning activities are needed.
The subjects of this study were 31 mothers and their first-born infants from middle class families living in Seoul. Mother-infant interactions were filmed at 5 and 13 months of age during naturalistic play situations at home. Questionnaire data were also collected. Results revealed that both maternal didactic and social interactions decreased over the 5 to 13 month time period but (only for infants) object-oriented interaction increased over time. Infant object-oriented interaction at 13 months was predicted by cumulative effects of both mother's social stimulation at 5 months and infant social interaction at 13 months. Infant's social interaction at 13 months was predicted by infant's object-oriented interaction at 13 months. Infant language development was predicted by mother's didactic stimulation.
The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that are associated with a child's development within a multi-cultural family, taking into account the factors that influence the child's language ability and their play interactions with their mothers. First, there was no significant difference in the children's language ability based on the child's gender, or based on the language in which the mother communicated with her children. However there were significant differences depending on the children's age, the mother's native country, and the period of time the mother had lived in Korea. Second, there was no significant difference in the child-mother play interaction based on the children's age, gender, the mother's native country, the period of time the mother has lived in Korea, or the language in which the mother communicated with her children. However, the boys showed a more hostile attitude toward their mothers, in comparison to the girls. In conclusion, it can be said that there is an urgent need for comprehensive social support services and policies for the overall development of multi-cultural children, especially through programs for children and mothers.
