The Effects of discrimination abuser experiences and discrimination victim experiences on consciousness of Human Rights's at community children centers : Mediating Effects of Self-Esteem

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of discrimination abuser experiences and discrimination victim experiences on the human rights consciousness of children in community children, In order to understand the role of self-esteem as a mediating role between these two variables, And to find practical and policy implications. For this purpose, we selected 662 elementary school sixth graders who participated in the second panel of the community children's center, the third year (2016), as the sample and used the structural equation model validation method. As a result of this study: First, the experience of discrimination abuser against children in the community children's center has negative effects on self - esteem. Second, the self-esteem of children in the community children's center showed a statistically significant effect on human rights consciousness. Third, the experiences of child discrimination abuse and discrimination of local children's centers showed significant influence on children's consciousness of human rights through self - esteem. In conclusion, we proposed practical use measures to promote positive emotional development and human rights consciousness of children in community children's centers.

An Experience of Judicial Autopsy for a Death by Muscular Dystrophy: An Autopsy Case (근이영양증으로 인한 사망의 사법부검 사례 경험: 증례 보고)

  • Progressive muscular dystrophy (PMD) is a primary muscle disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting, which is inherited by an X-linked recessive pattern and occurs mainly in males. There are several types of muscular dystrophies classified according to the distribution of predominant muscle weakness including Duchenne and Becker, Emery-Dreifuss, facioscapulohumeral, oculopharyngeal, and limb-girdle type. Clinical manifestations of PMD are clumsy, unsteady gait, pneumonia, heart failure, pulmonary edema, hydropericardium, hydrothorax, aspiration, syncopal attacks, and sudden cardiac death. The deceased was a 34-year-old man, and the onset of the first clinical symptom, gait disturbance, was in his late teens. His elder brother had the same disease and experienced brain death after a head trauma and died after mechanical ventilation was discontinued. After an autopsy, we found contracture of the joints, pseudohypertrophy of the calf, wasting and fat replacement of the thigh muscle, pericardial effusion (80 mL), fibrosis and fat replacement of the cardiac ventricular wall, pulmonary edema, and froth in the bronchus. The cause of death was heart failure and dyspnea due to muscular dystrophy. There was no sign or suspicion of foul play in his death.

A Case Report of the COVID-19 Outbreak Response by a Middle School Health Teacher in a Mountain Village (산촌 중학교 보건교사의 코로나19 집단감염 발생 대응 사례)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to describe a school health teacher's experience working in a mountain village during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2021. Methods: The study used a case study method based on the school records and reports to the local office of education. Results: In T City, since the first COVID-19 case confirmed on March 8, 2020, as of May 17, 21, a total of 21 cases have occurred, including two third-year students of H Middle School. Since then, one additional case was confirmed on May 18, one more on May 25, and one more on May 27, resulting in a total of five confirmed cases. During this period, 42 students and 13 teachers were self-quarantined, all students and staff were tested for COVID-19 PCR, and students received remote classes. The role of school health teacher can be described through three categories: "collaborator", "care coordinator", and "educator". The school health teacher did a lot of work until the situation came to an end, successfully fulfilling these three roles. Conclusion: Some suggestions were made to prepare a more effective communicable disease response system suitable for public health infrastructure of non-urban area.

Comparative Analysis on Blood Fatigue Variables after Isokinetic and Isotonic Exercise Training in Elite Athletes

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the changes in the blood fatigue variables caused by isokinetic and isotonic exercise training. METHODS: Ten healthy adult males with at least one year of athletic experience participated. The participants performed the isokinetic circuit exercise program first, followed by an isotonic circuit exercise program. A two-hour break was allowed between the isokinetic circuit exercise program and the isotonic circuit exercise program. The circuit exercise program consisted of four items (Squat, Deadlift, Shoulder press, and Bench press). The blood samples were analyzed for the LDH, CPK, and Cortisol levels. RESULTS: The LDH level in the isokinetic group was significantly different from the isotonic group. In particular, the change in LDH level in the isokinetic group was 33.30% lower than that of the isotonic group. The serum CPK level of the isokinetic group showed a 10.03% lower decrease than the isotonic group, but the difference was not significant. The Cortisol level was relatively unchanged in the isotonic group, but it decreased in the isokinetic group. On the other hand, the Cortisol level did not show a significant difference between the two groups. CONCLUSION: The isokinetic group showed alleviation of the three indices, unlike the isotonic group. Further studies associated with the changes in blood fatigue variables through various exercise programs and exercise intensity will be needed.

Autologous Fat Transfer in Lupus Panniculitis Facial Lipoatrophy

  • Lupus panniculitis (LP) often presents with tender nodules and intermittent ulcers that then heal with scarring and lipoatrophy. The current mainstay of treatment is medical treatment. Research regarding the treatment of lipoatrophy from LP with autologous fat grafting is limited. We would like to share our experience in this rare case, which was treated with autologous fat transfer. A 48-year-old female presented with erythematous plaque, tender nodules, and ulcers following by a depression of the lesion at the left temporal area. The patient also had indurated erythematous plaque at her left cheek. Both lesions were aggravated by sunlight exposure. After several investigations, she was diagnosed as LP with secondary lipoatrophy and tumid lupus erythematosus at her left temporal and left cheek, respectively. She received antimalarial drug and topical steroids. The patient underwent two sessions of autologous fat transfer. She was satisfied with the volume and contour improvement in the scar following the injection of 8 and 3.7 mL of fat. Furthermore, the patient reported the remission of tender nodules and ulcers since the first fat graft injection. In conclusion, the autologous fat transfer is a simple and effective treatment for lipoatrophy and scar secondary to LP with promising results.

Analyzing the Structural Relationship among Childcare Center Innovativeness, Digital Literacy of Early Childhood Teachers, Technostress and Teacher Efficacy (어린이집 조직혁신성, 영유아교사의 디지털 리터러시, 테크노스트레스와 교사효능감 간의 구조적 관계 분석)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relationship among child care center innovativeness, the early childhood(EC) teacher's digital literacy(DL), technostress and teacher efficacy. Methods: The participants were 454 EC teachers and were selected only if they had worked for more than one year. The innovativeness of childcare centers, the teacher's DL, technostress, and teacher efficacy were assessed through online self-report questionaries. Data were analyzed through ANOVA, t-test, and SEM. Results: First, DL and technostress of EC teachers differed in some ways depending on the teacher's demographic background, the characteristics of their working institution, and their educational level of digital skills. Second, the childcare center innovativeness directly had a significant positive effect on DL, technostress, and efficacy of the teachers. In addition, the effect of the innovativeness on teacher efficacy was mediated by DL and technostress of the teachers. Conclusion/Implications: The more efforts made of childcare centers for recognizing the rapid development of DL and trying to change, the better the teacher's scores of DL and the appropriate technostress were, which increases teacher efficacy. So, continuous training and education for teachers with consideration of age and teaching experience, as well as public aid to improve teachers' DL skills are required.

Nursing students' rights in clinical practice in South Korea: a hybrid concept-analysis study

  • Purpose: This study aimed to derive a conceptual definition and attributes for nursing students' rights in clinical practice in South Korea. Methods: This concept-analysis study was conducted at a nursing school in South Korea. The participants were recruited using purposive sampling. The inclusion criteria were being a fourth-year nursing student and having two or more semesters of practical experience. The hybrid model used in this study had three stages. First, 12 studies were reviewed during the theoretical stage. Second, 10 in-depth interviews were conducted during the fieldwork stage. Third, in the analytical stage, the concept of nursing students' rights related to clinical practice was defined and the attributes were derived. Results: The analysis established five attributes of nursing students' rights: the right to learn, the right to be protected from infections and accidents, the right to be cared for and supported, the right to be respected, and the right to be recognized as a member of a nursing team. A key theme that emerged from this study was having the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a measurement tool based on the above five attributes and to verify its effectiveness.

  • This study examines a systematic and effective approach to career guidance in medical education, with a particular focus on the 6-year integrated career guidance education framework implemented at the College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea. Based on the "New SLICE" educational development principles, this framework comprehensively addresses the needs of medical students in career planning and development. It is structured into three phases: understanding yourself, exploring options, and choosing a specialty. The first phase, understanding yourself, helps students to recognize their strengths, weaknesses, aptitudes, and potentials, thereby setting the direction for future career choices. This phase includes various psychological tests and Self-Development and Portfolio courses. The second phase, exploring options, enables students to engage in related activities such as research and practical training, providing direct and indirect experiences across various fields. This phase offers courses including Medical Field Experience, Career Guidance through the Learning Community & Advisory Professors, and Student Participation in Professor Research Projects. The final phase, choosing a specialty, involves students making decisions based on in-depth self-assessment and exploration of majors, with a capstone project being a significant component. Maximizing the efficiency of career decision-making requires integration between the basic medical curriculum and postgraduate education. Including the period up to residency entrance in the framework is necessary for effective career guidance education.

Determinants of Difference in the Value-Earnings Convexity (가치-이익 볼록성 차이의 결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose - This study aims to identify and document earnings management, sources of investment growth, and CEO personality traits as three determinants of difference in the value-earnings convexity. Design/methodology/approach - To test our hypotheses, we run cross-sectional regressions based on the Fama and Macbeth (1973) procedure using US firm-year observations from 1968 to 2017. Findings - First, we show that the value-earnings association decreases with accruals and real earnings management. Second, we demonstrate that the value-earnings convexity is weaker when investment growth is supported by off-balance-sheet intangible assets relative to on-balance-sheet tangible and intangible assets. Finally, we find that extraverted CEOs and CEOs who are more open to experience are better at exploiting the growth opportunities implied by the current accounting profitability. Conscientious and neurotic personality traits of CEOs make no difference in exploiting the growth opportunities that the current accounting profitability suggests. Research implications or Originality - This study complements and extends the literature on real options and behavioral agency by demonstrating that the value-earnings convexity depends not only on accounting profitability and investment growth rate, but also on earnings management, sources of investment growth, and CEO personality traits.

Strategic Deviance, Cost Behavior and Firm Value (전략적 일탈 기업의 원가행태와 기업가치)

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of corporate strategic deviance on firm value considering a firm's cost stickiness. Design/methodology/approach - This study used 40,823 firm-year observations from the Korean stock markets, KOSPI and KOSDAQ. Several multiple regression models were used in order to analyze the data Findings - First, unlike the previous results, corporate strategic deviation is positively associated with firm value. Second, the cost stickiness of a firm is positively related to firm value. Third, the interaction effect between strategic deviation and cost stickiness has negative relation with firm value. Fourth, An increase in standard deviation directly correlates with a decrease in firm value for firms with high levels of controlling shareholder ownership or that are part of chaebols. Research implications or Originality - Strategically deviant firms can experience an increase in firm value due to their future competitive advantage. Moreover, stickiness of costs generally has a positive impact on firm value. However, when firms with high levels of cost stickiness employ strategic deviant strategies, there is a risk of agency problems such as excessive overinvestment, which can negatively impact firm value.
