  • On 22 June 2018, we observed the breeding of the Pied avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) at landfill sites in Saemangeum, Jeollabuk-do Province. The breeding ground was a temporary swamp, and four juvenile were constantly observed with adult bird. This observation is the first breeding record of Pied avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) in Korea.

  • A single specimen of Liparis punctulatus (30.9 mm standard length) belonging to the family Liparidae, was collected in the waters off Busan on 4 August, 2016. This species is characterized by a single pair of nostrils, unlike other Liparis species. It is distinguished from L. ochotensis by the numbers of dorsal, anal, pectoral fin rays and the location of the gill opening (above the pectoral fin in L. punctulatus vs. extending ventrally in front of the pectoral fin). In the molecular analysis, 514 bp of 16S rRNA gene of the specimen in this study were identical to that of L. punctulatus from NCBI GenBank (K2P distance < 0.002). This is the first record of the species in Korea based on a voucher specimen, and we follow the Korean name "Kko-ma-kkom-chi" for this species proposed by Myoung et al. and Kim et al.

First Reliable Record of Bregmaceros nectabanus (Gadiformes; Bregmacerotidae) from Jeju-do Island of Korea, with a Key to Species of Eight Bregmacerotids from the Northwestern Pacific (한국 제주도에서 날개멸과(대구목) 어류, Bregmaceros nectabanus의 첫 출현 및 북서태평양 날개멸과 8종의 종검색)

  • Three specimens (33.6-44.8 mm in standard length) of the family Bregmacerotidae, collected from the waters off south-western Jeju-do Island in October 2016, were identified as Bregmaceros nectabanus on the basis of morphological and molecular methods (DNA barcoding). This species is characterized by having 50-52 2nd dorsal fin rays, 52-53 anal fin rays, 13 principal caudal fin rays, an unpigmented abdomen, irregularly distributed dorsal chromatophores, and the origin of a dorsal fin slightly behind the anal fin. This is the first reliable record of B. nectabanus in Korea. According to Yoo et al. (1992), we propose a Korean name "Tae-Pyeong-Yang-Nal-Gae-Myeol" for this species. Also, we suggest key to species of these eight bregmacerotids from the northwestern Pacific.

  • Three species of Choreutidae, Choreutis atrosignata (Christoph, 1888), Choreutis japonica (Zeller, 1877), and Litobrenthia japonica (Issiki, 1930), are reported for the first time from Korea. The records of C. atrosignata and C. japonica are based on two females from Yeongwol, Gangwon Province and from the Island Chujado, Jeju Province, respectively. The latter species was obtained from two larvae collected on the leaves of Ficus erecta (Moraceae). Photographs and data of rearing the larvae are provided. The record of L. japonica was based on two specimens collected from the Islands, Bogildo and Wando, Jeollanam Province. The present data of L. japonica represent the first record of the subfamily Brenthiinae and the genus Litobrenthia from Korea. Distributions of two species C. japonica and L. japonica, previously known only from Japan, now extends to Korea. Habitus and genitalia of the species treated here are briefly described and illustrated, if possible. To sum up, the Korean Choreutidae comprises four genera and 10 species, nine in Choreutinae and one in Brenthiinae.

  • This study investigated and analyzed the 17th presidential record by further expanding the awareness of the problem, focusing on media suspicions related to the 17th presidential record. And Based on the results, the purpose is to suggest ways to improve the presidential records management system. To this end, the 17th presidential record transferred to the Presidential Archives was first outlined from an overall perspective, and the records produced in the "record management", "ancillary room", and "Public Safety" functions were quantitatively analyzed. Next, we analyzed the physical records qualitatively along with quantitative analysis of the cases of 'production status notification', 'record production and nonregistration of records via e-mail', and 'core records and electronic/non-electronic records' to determine the records of the 17th President. Personality was diagnosed. Finally, based on the analysis results, a plan to improve the presidential record management system was proposed.

  • ICC(International Chamber of Commerce) developed new rule on the presentation of electronic record in L/C transactions. This rule named as the e-UCP. The gists of this article are on the application of e-UCP in practice and it's some problems. The e-UCP is the supplement of current exisiting UCP but is superior to UCP under some circumstances. The e-UCP is only apply to the presentation of electronic record regardless of type of L/C(for example, traditional paper L/C or electronic L/C). The presentation of electronic record has some problems which has not seen in the presentation of paper document. These peblems are Time, Place of presentation, and format of electronic record and so on. The e-UCP provided on the basis of these problems. However, the e-UCP has some obscure provisions on the examination of electronic record and the corruption of electronic record. Who is responsible for the corruption of electronic record by the virus on the system of bank ? The current e-UCP is not clear on this matter. We have to note followings in case of presenting the documents electronically and applying the e-UCP. First, Beneficiary has additional duty to notice of completion of presentation. Second, It will be increasing the clean NEGO through prompt feedback of the descrepancy at the presenting time. Third, It is no use of L/G(Letter of Guarantee).

  • This paper aims to introduce the basic concept of probabilistic record linkage and its statistical framework, and describe the specific process and principle of performing it using a real example from Statistics Korea. First, we briefly describe the deterministic record linkage and compare it with probabilistic record linkage. We introduce the Fellegi-Sunter model framework for record linkage and the related paprameters: m-probability, u-probability, matched weight and decision rule. Finally, we show the detailed process of record linkage under Fellegi-Sunter model framework and evaluate the record linkage results, using sample data from the registered-based census and Population and Housing Census survey in Statistics Korea.

  • Three species of Ellobiid molluscs collected from Korea were identified as Auriculastra duplicata (Pfeffer, 1854), Laemodonta siamensis (Morelete, 1875) and Melampus (Pira) flavus (Gmelin, 1791). This is the first record from the Korea, providing a description of the species with illustration for the shell morphology. Including the new recorded in this study, the family Ellobiidae contained six genera and 13 species in the Korea.
