First record of a stranded Melon-headed whale (Peponocephala electra) on the south-east coast of Korea was described. Full body and skull measurements were taken from the specimen. It was identified as P. electra by unique pointed flipper tips. Skull measurements of the specimen corresponded to condylobasal length proportions given in the previous descriptions of the holotype.

Two specimens of Apogon cookii of the family Apogonidae were collected from the coastal waters of Dokdo, Korea, and described as the first record from Korea. Specimens were caught by SCUBA diving using scoop net (length 33 cm, depth 63 cm) on October, 1997. The species differs from A. endekataenia in having 5 longitudinal stripes and a small black spot on the base of caudal fin. The new Korean name, "Da-seot-jul-eol-ge-bi-neul" as new Korean name of Apogon cookii.

A three specimen of Icelus toyamensis, belonging to Cottidae, Scorpaeniformes, was firstly collected from the East Sea, Korea during 2007-2009. We herein described the species as the first record from Korea on the basis of these specimens. Icelus toyamensis is characterized by the following morphological combinations: spinous scales absent on the base of dorsal fin; small ctenoid scales scattered on body sides; gill rakers are short, tubular, and relatively broad; the uppermost preopercular spine is sharp and simple; dorsal fin rays VIII-IX, 20-21; anal fin soft rays 18-19; pectoral fin rays 18, and vertebrae 40-41. New Korean name of I. toyamensis is proposed as "Min-jul-ga-si-hoet-dae."

A single specimen (134.3 mm standard length) of a snailfish, Careproctus notosaikaiensis was collected from a fish trap in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, East Sea, Korea. It is characterized by having the teeth strongly trilobed; dorsal fin rays 52; anal fin rays 47; pectoral fin rays 35; caudal fin rays 10; vertebrae 58; ribs 2 pairs; cephalic pores, 2-6-7-2; gill slit extending to the fifth pectoral fin ray; chin pores paired and equal in size; dorsal and anal fins with distinct reddish margins. We describe this species as the first record to Korea, and proposed the new Korean name, "Dong-hae-bun-hong-ggom-chi" for this species.

The Fraser's dolphin, Lagenodelphis hosei has a pantropical distribution. Only several stranding or catch data were available from Japan and Taiwan in the north-west Pacific region. An adult female L. hosei stranded in Jeju-do, Korea. The specimen was identified by external features and skull measurements. It showed the same external appearance ratio and range in the number of teeth with L. hosei former described. The cranial measurements also well corresponded to condylobasal length proportions given in the previous descriptions of the holotype. This is the first record of the species in Korean waters. We report the information on external and osteological characters of the specimen.

A rare species of unicornfishes, Naso lituratus (Schneider) was recently collected from coastal waters in Cheju-do, Korea. This species was described and figured as first record from Korea. A key of three species belonging to the genus Naso from Korea is presented.

The four specimens of Clariger cosmurus, belonging to the family gobiidae were collected from the southern costal region of Korea, and described as the first record from Korea. The specimens are characterized by having two dorsal fins, a few barbels below the eye, and dark brownish line along lateral body from tip of snout to caudal peduncle. We propose a new Korean name of the genus Clariger, C. cosmurus as respectively Wae-mang-duk sok and Wae-mang-duk, for the species.

Based on a single adult and two juvenile fishes collected from the coastal waters of Jeju Island, Scartella emarginata was redescribed as the first reliable record from Korea. The species is characterized by having a median fringe of cirri on head, short branched supraorbital cirrus, and by lacking canine teeth on both jaws.

A deep-dwelling goby, Obliquogobius yamadai, was described as the first record from Korea based on three specimens (30.3~47.0 mm SL) collected from the southern sea off Jeju Island. The species is characterized by having I, 9 second dorsal fin rays, scaled lateral side of nape, smaller head with large eye, and asymmetrical caudal fin dorsoventrally as well as about nine yellowish bars on body side. A new Korean name, "Gip-eun-ba-da-no-ran-ddi-mang-dug", is proposed for the species.

On 28 April 2008, a male Himalayan Swiftlet (Aerodramus brevirostris) was captured and examined at a night roost of swallows on Hongdo Island, Jeollanam-do, Korea. This is the first record of this species from Korea confirmed by specimen examination. We describe morphological features and some phylogenetic notes of the Himalayan Swiftlet found.
