  • The measurement in ruling period of King Sejong in Chosun Dynasty remained unchanged compared with that of Goyeo Dynasty. But Hwangjongchuck, the basis of measurement was amended in the 7th year in ruling period of King Sejong, Juchuck, Youngchochuck, Cholegichuck in the 12th, and Pobeckchuck in the 13th. The record of Pobeckchuck first appeared in the true record of Chosun Dynasty in the 4th year in ruling period of Sejong, and first record on the amendment of the Pobeckchuck was found in the 13th year in his ruling period. The presentation of the comparison of Pobeckchuck with Cholegichuck in volume 128 of true record of Sejong makes help the estimation of the length of Pobeckchuck. To calculate one Chuck of Pobeckchuck with this measurement comes to 44.75cm in present measurement, and the length at this time had remained unchanged to Yeonsangun period. Important fact which was newly found in the true record of Chosun Dynasty was that Pobeckchuck had been used for diverse purposes. Pobeckchuck was used to measure width, length and thickness in manufacturing wardrobe. and also to measure cloth decorating wardrobe. This is the first record(4th year of reign of Sejong) showing that Pobeckchuck was first used to measure cloth in Chosun Dynasty The record shows that Pobeckchuck was also used to measure the length of circumference of castle for its construction. to measure distances between people, the length of hook of wooden handle, and the height of man.

  • Leptocephali of the genus Saurenchelys in the family Nettastomatidae were collected from the coastal area of Pohang, Korea and described as the first record from Korean waters. S. stylura and S. lateromaculatus are characterized by two intestinal swellings, the pattern of pigments in the notochord, and by smaller pectoral fins than those of other genus. They are very similar to each other but they are distinguished by the pattern of pigments in the notochord and the intestinal swellings.

  • Let { $X_{n}$ , n $\geq$ 1} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with a common continuous distribution function F(x) and probability density function f(x). Let $Y_{n}$ = max{ $X_1$, $X_2$, …, $X_{n}$ } for n $\geq$ 1. We say $X_{j}$ is an upper record value of { $X_{n}$ , n$\geq$1} if $Y_{j}$ > $Y_{j-1}$, j > 1. The indices at which the upper record values occur are given by the record times {u(n)}, n$\geq$1, where u(n) = min{j|j>u(n-1), $X_{j}$ > $X_{u}$ (n-1), n$\geq$2} and u(1) = 1. We call the random variable X $\in$ Beta (1, c) if the corresponding probability cumulative function F(x) of x is of the form F(x) = 1-(1-x)$^{c}$ , c>0, 0$\leq$x$\leq$1. In this paper, we will give a characterization of the beta distribution of the first kind by considering conditional expectations of record values.s.

  • The delesseriacean parasitic red algal Asterocolax species was collected from Jindo in the southern coast of Korea. This parasitic species found on Pseudopolyneura japonica. And it is distinct from other species of Asterocolax with more or less denticulate branches when matured. This Korean entity is identified as Asterocolax denticulatus (Tokida) Feldmann & Feldmann (Delesseriaceae, Rhodophyta) based on these features. This is the first record of A. denticulatus in Korea.

  • Six specimens of Bathygobius hongkongensis were collected for the first time from the eastern coast of Jeju Island, Korea, in September-November 2017. This species is characterized by a pectoral fin with free rays and the division of the first dorsalmost pectoral free ray into three branches; a lower jaw with a mental frenum; and an anterior nostril with a tiny flap. Bathygobius hongkongensis is similar to B. fuscus but differs in having more dorsalmost free pectoral fin rays. The new Korean name proposed for B. hongkongensis is "Nam-bang-mu-nui-mang-duk."

  • A single specimen (149.9 mm TL) of sagami grenadier, Ventrifossa garmani was collected from Korea waters. This species is similar to Coelorinchus spp. in body shape, but is distinguished by a short and rounded snout. It is characterized by having the serrated second dorsal spine in the first dorsal fin, a triangular spine on the scale, seven branchiostegal rays and six scales below middle of first dorsal fin. We describe this species as the first record to Korean fish fauna and propose the Korean name "Kkeo-kkeul-meo-ri-min-tae-sok" for this genus, and "Kkeo-kkeul-meo-ri-min-tae" for this species.

  • A specimen of Aetobatus flagellum was collected at Uljin in June 2005 for the first time in Korea. This specimen is characterized by the cephalic fin, the long snout, the dorsal fin between pelvic fins, spiracles on the dorsal side of the disc, the deeply notched nasal curtain and the one row of the teeth in the lower and the upper jaws. And unlike Aetobatus narinari, it does not have any spots on the its dorsal side of the disc. We report this specimen as the first record from Korea and name it 'Bak-jui-ga-o-ri' in Korean.

  • Conchodytes nipponensis (De Haan, 1844), a caridean shrimp living in the mantle cavity of a pen shell (Atrina pectinata) is reported for the first time from Korea. It was collected from a depth of 15 m depth. Its morphology is described and illustrated, and a color image of a living specimen is provided. This is at the same time the first record of the genus Conchodytes, and the first record of a bivalve mollucs associated shrimp, from Korea.
