  • Objectives: This study aimed at comparing Sasang constitutional medicine(SCM) with other constitutional theories of the world. Methods: From PubMed database, we first searched all papers using the term 'constitution', then filtered those having really constitution-focused papers. Then, they were analyzed to compare each constitutional theory and medicinal practice. Results: There were five constitution-related medicines which have been practiced in medical field: Sasang, iridology, somatotype, dermatoglyphics and Ayurveda. There was the largest number of scientific researches for dermatoglyphics while the smallest number of papers was for SCM. The other three constitutional theories were based on anatomic/histologic difference between types in contrast to SCM and Ayurveda, which relied on inherited functional differences of four or three internal organs. Conclusions: This study simultaneously compared five major constitutional theories currently practiced as medicines in the world. We found that even as SCM seems to have the most potential as therapeutic medicine it should be studied more using scientific methodologies to be a world-wide medicine.

  • The use of cellulose papers has recently attracted much attention in various device applications owing to their natural advantageous properties of earth's abundance, bio-friendly, large-scale production, and flexibility. Conventional metal oxides with novel structures of nanorods, nanospindles, nanowires and nanobelts are being developed for emerging electronic and chemical sensing applications. In this work, both ZnO (n-type) nanorod arrays (NRAs) and CuO (p-type) nanospindles (NSs) were synthesized on cellulose papers and the p-n junction property was investigated using the electrode of indium tin oxide coated polyethylene terephthalate film. To synthesize ZnO and CuO nanostructures on cellulose paper, a simple and facile hydrothermal method was utilized. First, the CuO NSs were synthesized on cellulose paper by a simple soaking process, yielding the well adhered CuO NSs on cellulose paper. After that, the ZnO NRAs were grown on CuO NSs/cellulose paper via a facile hydrothermal route. The as-grown ZnO/CuO NSs on cellulose paper exhibited good crystalline and optical properties. The fabricated p-n junction device showed the I-V characteristics with a rectifying behaviour.

  • Problem solving in real life is a core competency commonly adopted in several subjects recently. The real-world problems were rarely resolved with only one domain of knowledge. Thus, convergence education is becoming a trend in many countries. As on-line education is revitalized because of COVID-19, the need for changes to STEAM education is emerging. In December 2019, the on-line education systems quickly settled in schools because of COVID-19. During the first semester of 2020, most school education was conducted as virtual/distance learning classes. It is necessary to analyze how much technology has been used in the STEAM classes in Korea. This paper analyzes the research papers related to the STEAM education in Korea conducted in the last 10 years. By doing this, we analyze what kind of edutechs we were interested in, what kind of STEAM education actually occurred, and to whom it was conducted. The previous research papers analyzed in this paper are the papers in the Korea Citation Index accredited journals and candidate journals. Finally, this paper proposes educational changing factors to be considered for future technology-based STEAM education.

  • The Journal of the Korean Solar Energy Society is the first journal in South Korea that adopts wind energy as one of its subjects. Since 2000, more than 140 papers on wind energy have been published in the journal, which accounts for 8.5% of the total publication. However, in recent years, the number of published papers on wind energy has been decreasing steadily, and a reason for this decline is the significant dependence on a few specific institutions and authors. In this study, wind energy subjects were classified using the frequency analysis of the subject words extracted from the title, keywords, and abstract of wind energy papers using the text mining technique. In addition, the Korea Citation Index was used to perform quantitative level evaluation by subject and institution and to analyze the trends and characteristics of the wind energy field. Therefore, it was identified that in terms of the number of publications and citations, the main subject areas were resource/micrositing and policy/potential.

  • Objectives: Since the importance of Korean Medicine (KM) treatment for Poor Ovarian Response (POR) is high, we intend to present appropriate treatment standards and methods by analyzing information on KM knowledge presented in related research papers and literature. Methods: First, research papers dealing with Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) and POR are analyzed. In addition, we analyze and refer to research papers on Premature Ovarian Failure and Premature Menopause, which are closely related to DOR. Results: It is considered that the application of KM treatment alone for DOR should be based on the age that best reflects the ovarian reserve rather than the value of the ovarian reserve-related index centered on Anti-Müllerian Hormine (AMH). Accordingly, as a DOR woman under the age of 38, if normal sexual intercourse is achieved and the spouse factor is excluded, KM treatment, focusing on herbal medicine and acupuncture, can be applied. Conclusions: Korean Medicine treatment for infertility caused by decreased ovarian reserve is expected to be effective. However, research on specific treatments and targets will have to be added.
