  • Water mist fire suppression system utilizes the fire suppression features such as cooling of fire source, dilution of ambient oxygen, and shielding of radiation heat with the evaporation of microscopic water droplets. The momentum of water mist is relatively low and the infiltration of water mist to the fire source is not effective. In addition to lower penetration force, the evaporated water vapor is liable to decline to limited portion of fire source due to its light weight and sparse density. On the other hand, the cycling water mist system is expected to improve the penetration force of water mist as well as the dilution coverage capability with the stratified spray characteristics. At this paper we present the analyzed fire suppression capability of intermittent water spray pattern by use of FDS which is computational fire dynamics fire model. We expect this analysis shall be supportive to the development of the prototype of water mist nozzle.

  • Buildings in Korea have been getting higher recently and been being changed environmentally since the Korean fire standard was released in 1968. It should be established to make a appropriate correspondence of fire fighting against the those environmental changes. Most of all, fire water capacity which is basis of fire fighting service is a very significant factor. In this paper, the Korean fire water capacity and fire water duration were compared with China, Japan and the United states. Furthermore, fire water capacity, fire water duration, flow rate were compared by hazard classification, occupant use, number of floor and area with water based fire suppression system. This study has been surveyed to show what are difference, similarity, advantage and disadvantage on fire water capacity in the Korean standard comparing with neighboring countries like China, Japan as well as the United states. This study could be found what level the Korean fire water capacity is. So it suggests about more developed standard on fire water capacity with the result of analysis and comparison.

  • The present study investigates the fire suppression characteristics using a water mist fire suppression system. Numerical simulations of fire suppression with water mist are performed with considering the interaction of fire plume and water droplet, droplet evaporation, and combustion of pool fire. The predicted temperature fields of smoke layer are compared with that of measured data. Numerical results agree with the experimental results within 5$^{\circ}C$ in the case without water mist In the case of fire suppression with water mist, numerical results dose not predict well lot temperature field in the gradual cooling region after water mist injection. But the predicted results of initial fire suppression are in good agreement with that of measured data. The reason of the discrepancy between predicted and measured data is due to the variation of turning rate during the injection of water mist. The effect of burning rate on the fire suppression is left as future study.

  • Development of the economy and the growing income of people interested in the leisure and health has been focused. Past the town common wells and groundwater around the water, but health is a priority these days to solve the drinking water directly from tap water, but most people work from home, through the water purifier has been resolved. Depending on seasonal changes and personal taste of coffee, if you can enjoy a snack and water purifier is a restaurant, lounge, public areas and focusing on the rapid spread of the fire, water purifier as compared to the total number of fires increased by 0.03% per year trend on, but the washrooms fire and fire-related research data and case studies with analysis of the exact cause lack of proper preventive measures are insufficient reality. In this study, focusing on electrical energy using a water cooler to understand the structure and principles of fire, the fire revealed the mechanism is vulnerable to the consideration of factors, the exact cause of the fire investigation and the Assistant, manufacturing defects, and to contribute to fire prevention review should.

More elaborate models for numerical simulation are required for better predictions of the fire suppression characteristics using water mist.

  • This study discribes characteristics of water spray for extinguishment of gasoline fire. Experiments are carried out for the gasoline pool fire nth the atomizing nozzles. Droplet size, spray pressure, amount of water which reaches the flame base and velocity of water spray are measured to find extinguishment conditions. Air entrainment due to the water spray and extinguishing process of gasoline fire by water spray are visualized. Boundary conditions of water spray for extinguishment of gasoline pool fire is quantitatively shown. As the result of experiments, it is found that the velocity of entrainment air and sprayed water are almost same and the water droplets size having small diameter under 40$\mu\textrm{m}$ can not extinguish the fire because too small droplets does not reach the fuel surface.

  • This study classifies the fire suppression measures implemented by wooden temples into four types according to availability of the pump trucks (water tanks) at the fire sites. And this study outlines the strategies and methods based on each type of fire suppression measure. The results show that the fire suppression strategy applied in general buildings is also employed in temples where pump trucks (water tanks) and fire-fighting water are available. For temples where trucks and water are not available, the helicopter, water bag, fire suppression strategy focused on water supply link, automatic transmission system of a fire engine's level by using radio communication network, and water bladder are used. In addition, general four-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with fire fighting tools such as motor pump, hose, nozzle, and water bladder should be deployed in fire stations around the temples. A fire suppression strategy using A-type ladders is also required.

  • The present study investigates the fire suppression characteristics using a water mist fire suppression system. The fire extinguishing times are measured for various fire sources, fuel types, and different total flooding rates of water mist. Pool fire with hydrocabon fuel is successfully extinguished within a minute under the operating conditions of the water mist system. Two different regimes of the smoke layer cooling are observed, such as rapid and slow cooling processes. The regimes are divided by threshold time which is calculated with auto-correlation function. The threshold time for the initial cooling decreases with increasing water flow-rates and fire sources. These initial cooling effects play an important role in preventing the occurance of flashover fire by the initial fire suppression.

  • To prevent the ozonosphere from being destroyed by Halon, it is an urgent task to find out Halon replacement. As one of the replacements water mist have showed broad applications by its advantages: little pollution to environment (not destroying the ozone layer or bring green house effect), extinguishing fire quickly, consuming a small quantity of water and having little damage to the protected objects. The methods of generating water mist strongly influence fire suppression effectiveness, which determine the cone angle, drop size distribution, flux uniformity, and momentum of the generating spray. The traditional water mist nozzle included pressure jet nozzles, impingement nozzles and twin-fluid nozzles. All of them have more or less disadvantages for fire suppression. Therefore, many research institutes and corporations are taking up with innovations in mist generation. This article provided some recent studies in State Key Laboratory of Fire Science (SKLFS) of University of Science and Technology of China. SKLFS have investigated new methods of generating water mist (i.e. effervescent atomization and ultrasonic atomization). and self developed a series of nozzles and developed advanced DPIVS (Digital Particle Image Velocimetry and Sizing) technique. Characteristics of water mist (the distribution of droplet sizes, flux density, spray dynamics and cone angle) produced by these nozzles were measured under different conditions (work pressure, nozzle geometry, etc.) using LDV/APV and DPTVS systems. A series of experiments were performed to study the fire suppression effectiveness in different fire scenario (different kindsof the fuel, fire size and ventilation conditions). The fire extinguishing mechanisms of water mist was also discussed.

  • In this paper, we developed a breather valve with a water mist system for use near an oil storage tank. Our process applied a water mist system to the flame arrester to evaluate the fire suppression characteristics. For the fire suppression evaluation of the water mist system, we evaluated the angle of the nozzle, fire suppression, spray particle size, flashback, fire suppression time, and fire suppression test of antifreeze. Through the fire suppression test, the best fire suppression nozzle used an angle of $140^{\circ}$, and the flashback phenomenon of flame arrester did not occur. The fire suppression time of water mist system time was within three seconds, and the antifreeze was no problem with the fire suppression.
