Study on Property Modification with Fire Retardant Content in the Manufacture of Compounds for Cable Sheath (전선피복용 컴파운드의 제조에서 난연제의 첨가량에 따른 물성 변화 연구)

  • The three different polymer compounds were manufactured with the three different fire retardant (silane coated magnesium dihydroxide) contents, 180, 200, 220 phr, for making cable sheath for ship industry. In the research, ethylene-vinylacetate, polyethylene as matrix polymers and ethylene-vinylacetate grafted maleic anhydride as coupling agent were selected for compounding with fire retardant, closslinking agent, plasticizer, and other additives. In the evaluation. ΔT, Mooney viscosity, and tensile strength increased with the content of fire retardant. But it was found that too much fire retardant damaged aging resistance and cold resistance of the polymer compound.

  • 본 연구는 국내의 고령화 추세와 고령자시설 현황을 고찰하고 일반인과 고령자의 군집형성시 보행속도를 측정하여 고령자를 고려한 피난안전설계의 기초자료로 제시하기 위한 연구이다. 군집보행속도 측정결과 고령자가 전방에 배치되었을 때 평균 0.81m/s로 가장 감소하였으며, 고령자 비율이 증가할수록 전체 보행속도는 감소하였다. 향후 피난안전설계를 위하여 고령자의 피난행동특성을 고려한 다양한 연구를 통한 DATA 확보가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on Elementary School students Recognition of Forest Fire Disaster (산불재난에 대한 초등학생들의 인식 연구)

  • Purpose, Methoud: In this study, a survey was conducted on elementary school students in the region of Youngdong, Gangwon Province, to find out their awareness about their forest fire disaster experiences, the occurrence of forest fire, forest fire disaster education and coping behaviors for it. It's meant to provide some information on forest fire education based on the results of the survey. Four research questions were posed: 1. What is the awareness of elementary school students on their own forest fire disaster experiences? 2. What is their awareness on the occurrence of forest fire disaster? 3. What is their awareness on forest fire disaster education? 4. What is their awareness on coping behaviors for it? Result: The findings of the study were as follows: First, as for awareness on forest fire disaster experiences, 95.8 percent of the students that accounted for the majority knew about the meaning of forest fire. The students who knew about the meaning of disaster represented 80.8 percent. Second, as for awareness on the occurrence of forest fire, 35.8 percent thought forest fire broke out the most in summer. The students who had never seen forest fire in person accounted for 79.2 percent, which were the majority. Concerning the route of being aware of forest fire, the largest number of the students learned about it from TV, followed by families, friends, teachers, radio/schools and textbooks. Third, as for learning experiences on forest fire disaster, the students who had received this education accounted for 83.3 percent, which were the majority. This education was mostly provided by schools, and the second most common educational place was fire stations. Fourth, as for coping behaviors for the occurrence of forest fire, 80.5 percent replied they would dial the 119 emergency center, and the second most dominant answer was going up to the mountaintop, followed by quickly coming down to go home and having no idea. Conclusion: Through this study, It is judged that education on forest fire disasters and production of educational materials should be consistent and continuous education should be conducted.

Assessment of Grid Sensitivity in the FDS Field Model to Simulate the Flame Propagation of an Electric Cable Fire (케이블 화재의 화염전파 해석을 위한 FDS 모델의 격자민감도 평가)

  • The present study has been conducted to examine the effect of grid resolution on the predicted results for electric cable fire using pyrolysis model in FDS(Fire Dynamics Simulator, version 5). The grid independent test for different grid resolutions has been performed for a PE coating cable and the grid resolution is defined by the non-dimensional characteristic length of fire and mean grid size. The calculated maximum heat release rate and mean flame spread rate were almost constant for higher grid resolution of 20${\sim}$25 and the computing time for the grid resolution takes approximately 20hours to solve flame propagation with pyrolysis model. The geometrical simplification of a electric cable dose not greatly affect on the maximum heat release rate and flame spread rate and the rectangular approximation of cable shape gives acceptable result comparing with the round cable with stepwise grid.

  • Changes in the styles of communities are leading of increases in the number of high-rise apartments and commercial-apartment structures. Tall high-rise structures, while presenting unique economies of scale and cost effectiveness, tend to be highly engineered and complex structures. In the event of a fire, this complexity in design also results in a complexity in the behavior of fire propagation and control. High-rise structures are among the most potentially dangerous due to the high population density in the building, and the inherent limitations on evacuation and on fire control services. One of the most critical points of fire propagation is the movement of fire through the outer wall structures. Controlling such propagation is essential in controlling the spread of the fire throughout the building itself, as well as controlling the potential for its spread to adjacent buildings. In this study, we will be examining the potential for fire control design and effects mitigation using a 1/4.5 scale model. The primary focus of the study will be the effects of extended balconies into the structure of high-rise apartments. The authors will also consider the effectiveness of reduced-scale model tests.

Analysis of Changes in NDVI Annual Cycle Models Caused by Forest Fire in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do Using Time Series of Landsat Images

  • Sixty four percent of Korean territory consists of forest which is fragile for forest fire. However, it is difficult to detect the disaster-induced damages due to topographic complexity in mountainous areas and harsh weather conditions. For this reason, satellite imaging systems have been widely utilized to detect the damage caused by forest fire. In particular, ground vegetation condition can be estimated from multi-spectral satellite images and change detection technique has been used to detect forest fire damages. However, since Korea has clear four seasons, simple change detection technique has limitation. In this regard, this study applied the NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index) annual cycle modeling technique on time-series of Landsat images from 1991 to 2007 to analyze influence of forest fire of Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do in 2005 on vegetation condition. The encouraging result was obtained when comparing the areas where forest fire occurs with non-damaged areas. The mean value of NDVI was decreased by 0.07 before and after the forest fire. On the other hand, annual variability of NDVI had been increasing and peak value of NDVI was stationary after the forest fire. It is interpreted that understory vegetation was seriously damaged from the forest fire occurred in 2005.

Post-fire test of precast steel reinforced concrete stub columns under eccentric compression

  • This paper presents an experimental work on the post-fire behavior of two kinds of innovative composite stub columns under eccentric compression. The partially precast steel reinforced concrete (PPSRC) column is composed of a precast outer-part cast using steel fiber reinforced reactive powder concrete (RPC) and a cast-in-place inner-part cast using conventional concrete. Based on the PPSRC column, the hollow precast steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) column has a hollow column core. With the aim to investigate the post-fire performance of these composite columns, six stub column specimens, including three HPSRC stub columns and three PPSRC stub columns, were exposed to the ISO834 standard fire. Then, the cooling specimens and a control specimen unexposed to fire were eccentrically loaded to explore the residual capacity. The test parameters include the section shape, concrete strength of inner-part, eccentricity ratio and heating time. The test results indicated that the precast RPC shell could effectively confine the steel shape and longitudinal reinforcements after fire, and the PPSRC stub columns experienced lower core temperature in fire and exhibited higher post-fire residual strength as compared with the HPSRC stub columns due to the insulating effect of core concrete. The residual capacity increased with the increasing of inner concrete strength and with the decreasing of heating time and load eccentricity. Based on the test results, a FEA model was established to simulate the temperature field of test specimens, and the predicted results agreed well with the test results.

  • Many of newly emerging diseases such as hypertension, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and atoptic dermatities are categorized into "Fire heat-disease(火熱病)" according to oriental medicine. It is because factors such as stress, overeating, and high fat diet are major causes of heat in the human body. Sun Yi-Kui(孫一奎), a well-known oriental medical doctor during Ming Dynasty's "Jia Jing Wan Li Nian Jian"(嘉靖萬歷年間 : A.D $1522^{\sim}1619$), established new theories on "Fire heat-disease-mechanism(火熱病機)". This study aims to investigate Dr. Sun's "Fire heat-disease-mechanism(火熱病機)"theory. For this purpose, I thoroughly examined the concepts of "Dong-Qj(動氣)", "Ming-Men(命門)", king fire(君火) and minister fire(相火) as well as pathological theory on "Fire heat(火熱)". In addition, I compared Sun's theory with those of Li Dong-yuan and Zhu dan-Xi.

Comparison between a Light-Scattering and a Light-Extinction Methods for the Study on Soot Yielding Characteristics of an Electric Cable Fire (전선 매연 생성 특성 연구를 위한 광산란법-광소멸법의 비교)

  • Significant portion of the fire accident is caused by some troubles in electric circuits. To prevent the fire induced by those electric trouble, some indications of electric fire need to be suitably detected at the first stage of the fire development. With this background, the characteristics of soot yielding of electric cables have been investigated using a light extinction method. In this study, a light scattering method was compared with the light extinction method. A slot-type premixed-flame combustor was traversed to bum three types of electric cables by compulsion, then the mass decrease rate and the soot densities were measured. According to the experimental results, the light scattering method is preferred to the light extinction method when the soot yield ratio is relatively small. Thus the former method is more suitable to detect the occurrence of an electric fire in a power distributer box.
