High strength concrete used for large structures is vulnerable to fire due to explosive spalling when it is heated. Recently, various research is conducted to enhance the fire-resistance of the high strength concrete by reducing the explosive spalling at the elevated temperature. In this study, a heat transfer analysis model is proposed for a fiber-embedded fire-resistant high strength concrete. The material model of the fire-resistant high strength concrete is selected from the calibrated material model of a high strength concrete incorporating thermal properties of fibers and physical behavior of internal concrete at the elevated temperature. By comparing the simulated results using the calibrated model with the experimental results, the heat transfer model of the fiber-embedded fire-resistant high strength concrete is proposed.

This study was performed FE numerical analysis under 120-minute fire conditions, using the ABAQUS, a wide use software, on the basis of the test results by concrete tunnel lining fire strengths (ISO, RWS, and MHC). The concrete material test was to secure the material properties of concrete linings, which were numerical analysis input conditions. And then built the material properties, such as specific heat, heat transfer rate, heat expansion rate, density, elasticity coefficient and compression strength under high temperature conditions, as database at 20 $^{\circ}C$ to 800 $^{\circ}C$, applying them to analysis as input values. As a result, the tunnel linings under RWS fire conditions saw fire temperature rose to maximum 1119 $^{\circ}C$at the location of 5 mm above a thermal surface, and saw surface temperature amount to 1214 $^{\circ}C$ in the middle part.

Fire-fighters are struggling against heat and dense smoke by fire when it occurs at the basement or the inner place of a building. An indoor fire-fighting robot with well heat-resistance, great searching cameras and good extinguishing ability has been developed. It never suffocate, coming into the fire district and extinguishes fire directly. In this study, several experiment was conducted to evaluate field working ability of the fire-fighting robot. As a result, a series of passing obstacles, finding fire place and fire suppression by the remote controlling with image information appeared satisfactory.

In this study, experimental test and numerical analysis were conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics and fiber performance of high strength concrete. The fire characteristics of the high strength concrete that couldn't be obtained through the test due to specific requirements and restrictions were forecast using numerical analysis approach. The outcome from the numerical analysis and the test were compared to verify and improve the reliability of the analysis. A numerical analysis of 80 and 100 MPa high strength concrete cases were carried out to identify the heat transfer characteristics and fire behavior using software, ABACUS (V6.8) From the results of verification experiment, a 25~55% level of beam shrinkage reduction was observed compared to the concrete without Fiber-Cocktail, indicating the improved fire resistance performance, which appeared to be attributable to the function of Fiber-Cocktail that was able to control the heat transfer characteristics and ultimately result in enhancing the fire resistance performance.
In order to protect lives and prevent large-scale injuries in the event of a fire on a ship or an offshore plant, most classification societies are strengthening their fire resistance designs of relevant cargo holds and accommodation compartments to keep flames from being transferred from a fire point to other compartments. Particularly in critical compartments, where flames should not propagate for a certain period of time, such as the A60 class division, both the airtightness and fire-resistant design of a piece passing through a bulkhead are subject to the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). In order to verify the suitability of a fire-resistant design for such a penetrating piece, the fire test procedure prescribed by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) must be carried out. However, a numerical simulation should first be conducted to minimize the time and cost of the fire resistance test. In this study, transient thermal analyses based on the finite element method were applied to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a bulkhead penetration piece for the A60 class compartment. In order to determine a rational bulkhead penetration piece design, the transient heat transfer characteristics according to the variation of design parameters such as the diameter, length, and material were reviewed. The verification of the design specification based on a numerical analysis of the transient heat transfer performed in this study will be discussed in the following research paper for the actual fire protection test of the A60 class bulkhead penetration piece.
In this study, the fire patterns, heat emissions, and smoke generated by means of fire tests developed for representative combustibles in residential facilities were analyzed from among seven fire types. These combustibles were selected in a previous study to simulate real-world situations and professionalism required while dealing with these types of fires and develop the field commander training content. Consequently, the maximum heat dissipation was recorded as 728.6 kW, followed by the dissipation measured from the combination of a mattress and electric blanket, desk and chair, and TV and mattress. The total heat emission of sofas (226.2 MJ) and the combination of mattress and electric blanket (2,259.5 ㎡) was recorded. In this study, the scope of the tests was limited to the fire characteristics and characteristics of the combustibles, and it is expected that a simulation using various data acquisition methods and FDS would be performed and evaluated at a later stage.

In this study, combustion and smoke release characteristics of a non-class 1E cable for nuclear power plants were investigated according to aging period. The aging was reproduced through an accelerated aging method for interval of 10 years :10, 20, 30 and 40 year, which was applied the Arrhenius equation. The cable was subjected to accelerated aging. In order to understand combustion and smoke release characteristics, the cone calorimeter test was performed according to the standard code of KS F ISO 5660-1. Heat release rate, mass loss rate, average rate of heat emission and smoke production rate were examined through cone calorimeter test. Fire performance index, fire growth index and smoke factor were derived from test results for the comparison of quantitative fire risk. When comparing the fire performance index and the fire growth index, the early fire risk tends to decrease as aging progresses, which might be attributed from the fact that the volatile substances of cables were evaporated. However, when comparing the heat release rate, average rate of heat emission and mass loss rate, which represent the mid and late periods of the fire risk, the values of accelerated aging cables were much higher than those of non-aged cable, which signifies the unstable formation of the char layer resulted in the change in the performance of flame retardants. In addition, the results from the smoke characteristics show that the accelerated aging cables were lager than the non-aged cables in terms of overall fire risk. These results can be used as baseline data when assessing fire risk of cables and establishing fire safety code for nuclear power plants.
An experimental study was conducted to identify the quantitative measurement bias for the bare-bead thermocouple (TC), which was widely used for measuring temperature in fire experiments. To this end, an apparatus could be controlled individually gas flow rate, preheating temperature and incident radiative heat flux was developed to simulate the thermal environments of fire. A relative measurement bias of bare-bead TC was evaluated with the comparison of double-shield aspirated TC. As a result, the relative measurement bias of bare-bead TC was gradually increased with the increase in radiative heat flux with constant gas temperature. The relative bias was also significantly increased with the decrease in gas temperature. Quantitatively, at the gas temperature of $20^{\circ}C$, the bare-bead TC had the relative bias of approximately 400% with the radiative heat flux of $20kW/m^2$ corresponding to thermal radiation level of the flashover. The present study was intend to provide fire researchers with methodologies for the reanalyses of temperature measured using bare-bead TC, radiation corrections, and validation of fire modeling.
