  • The finite element simulation model and the program to calculate the reverse moment have been developed to analyse the stress state and deformation of pipe bending using local induction heating with small bending radius in this study. The reverse moment that is to be applied on the bending arm to control the wall thinning ratio of the bending outside to within a particular value. Even though the demand of pipes with small bending radius is increasing in power plants and ship buildings, the welded elbows are still widely used. The bending process with or without a reverse moment acting on the bending arm has been simulated. The reverse moments calculated from the developed program are in good agreement with the finite element simulations and the experiments.

  • The governing functional in plastic deformation has to satisfy the incompressibility constraint. This incompressibility constraint imposed on velocity fields can be removed by introducing either Lagrange multiplier or the penalty constant into the functional. In this study, two-dimensional rigid plastic FEM programs using these schemes were developed. These two programs and DEFORM were applied in a cylinder upsetting and a closed die forging to compare the values of load, local mean stress and volume loss. As the results, the program using Lagrange multiplier obtained a more exact and stable solution, but it took more computational time than the program using the penalty constant. Therefore, according to user's need, one of these two programs can be chosen to simulate a metal forming processes.

  • The objective of this study is to develop analytical techniques of polymer impregnated concrete flexural members for its proper applications. crystalline methylmethacrylate(MMA) is chosen as a monomer of polymer impregnants, On the basis of members. fracture toughness, fracture energy , critical crack width, and tension softening relations near crack tip are formulated in terms of member depth, initial notch length and the flexural strength of normal concrete. The structural analysis rocedure and the finite element computer program developed in the study are applicable to evaluate elastic behavior, ultimate strength, and tension softening behavior of MMA type PIC structural members subject to various loading conditions. It is concluded that the developed structural analysis procedure and the finite element computer program are applicable to analysis and design of in-situ and precast PIC structural members.

  • In this study, an axi-symmetric finite element program for elastic analysis of the die set shrink fitted in cold extrusion was developed. The geometrical constraint according to shrink fit was enforced by employing the Lagrange multiplier method. The numerical results for strain and stress distributions in the die set including single and multi stress rings assembled by shrink fit were compared well with the Lame's equation for thick-walled solution available in the literature. To extend the applicability of the analysis program developed, various cases without or with stress ring and with pre-stress applied on stress ring were numerically investigated as well. This numerical approach enables the optimization study to determine optimal dimensions of die set to improve tool life for practical use in industry.

  • In this study, an optimal design technique was investigated for determining appropriate dimensions of components of the die set used in the extrusion process. For this, an axi-symmetric elastic finite element program for the analysis of deformation of the shrink fitted die set was developed with the Lagrange multiplier method to implement the constraint condition of shrink fit of stress ring. By coupling the rigid-viscoplastic analysis of extrusion process by CAMPform and elastic analysis of the die set, the optimization study was made by employing optimization program DOT. Considering the various assembly conditions, optimal design was determined for a single stress ring case. It is construed that the proposed design method can be beneficial for improving the tool life of cold extrusion die set at practice.

  • This study carried out passenger safety assessment by real car crash simulation of composite post structures for road facilities. The effects of different material properties of composites for various parameters are studied using the LS-DYNA finite element program for this study. In this study, the existing finite element analysis of steel post structures using the LS-DYNA program is further extended to study dynamic behaviors of the structures made of various composite materials. The numerical results for various parameters are verified by comparing different models with displacements and stress distribution occurred in the post and car.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Natural Frequency behavior characteristic of Wind Turbine Tower model, and calculated the stress values of thrust load, wave load, wind load, current load, and gravity load. The offshore Jacket Type Tower which was installed in Vitenam South China Sea is used for the study. Natural frequency and mode shape are calculated with commercial program using the measured vibration. The finite element analysis is performed with commercial F.E.M program(ANSYS) on the basis of the natural frequency and mode shape.

  • A flat-type L$_1$-B$_{8}$ Mode Ultrasonic motor(USM) uses longitudinal-bending multi-mode vibrator which is constructed with the metal-piezoceramic composite thin plate vibrator. Especially, the characteristics of vibrating displacement of the vibrator are important for the fabrication of USM. So, in this study, we tried to analyze them by the FEM(finite element method) simulation program. ANSYS 5.6 we used is a finite element software enabling the analysis of 2 or 3 dimensional structure of piezoelectric materials. Using this made us analyzing the resonance frequency and calculating displacement of vibrator and then the position of the projection.n.

  • In order to classify the mechanical phenomena of thermal elasto-plastic behavior on the multi-spot welded joints, this study has tried to carry out three-dimensional thermal elasto-plastic analysis on them. However, because the shape of multi-spot welded joints is not taxi-symmetric, unlike the cafe of single-spot welded joint, the solution domain for simulation should be three dimension. Therefore, in this paper, firstly, the three-dimensional thermal elasto-plastic program is developed by an iso-parametric finite element method. Secondly, from the results analyzed by developed program, this has clarified mechanical characteristics and their production mechanism on single and multi-spot waled joints. Moreover, it has been intended to make clear effects of pitch length on welding residual stresses, plastic strain of multi-spot welded joints.

  • Steel box girders are popular to the Practicing engineers for the its large Pure torsional constant. But closed box girders at-e susceptible to the eccentric loading due to the distortion of the cross section. Distorton of the box girder develops the warping normal stress and transverse flexural stress in the cross section and their magnitudes can be large unless internal diaphragms are installed sufficiently. In this study, stiffness matrix and equivalent nodal force vector are formulated on the basis of displacement method. Shape functions are directly derived from the homogeneous solution of the governing differential equation of the distortion. New finite element formulations were coded into a computer program. Several numerical examples were presented to show the validity of developed program.
