A Study on Singularly Perturbed Open-Loop Systems by Delta Operator Approach

  • In this paper, the open-loop state response of the two-time-scale systems by unified approach using the $\delta$-operator is presented with an example of the aircraft longitudinal dynamics. First, the $\delta$-operator system unifies both the continuous system and the discrete system simultaneously, and the $\delta$-operator approach improves the finite word-length characteristics. This saves more computing time than that of the discrete system. Second, the singular perturbation method by block diagonalization reduces the sizes and orders of the systems. This also reduces the floating-point operations (flops). The advantage of those two approaches is shown by comparing our results with the earlier ones in the illustrative example of the longitudinal motion of F-8 aircraft.

  • The transform trellis code is an optimal source code as a block size and the constraint length of a shift register go to infinite for stationary Gaussian sources with the squared-error distortion measure. However to implement this code, we have to choose the finite block size and constraint length. Moreover real-world sources are inherently non stationary. To overcome these difficulties, we developed a training algorithm for the transform trellis code. The trained transform trellis code which uses the same rates to each block led to a variation in the resulting distortion from one block to another. To alleviate this non-uniformity in the encoded image, we constructed clusters from the variance of the training data and assigned different rates for each cluster.

Investigation on Ultimate Strength of STS304L Stainless Steel Welded Connection with Base Metal Fracture Using Finite Element Analysis

  • Many studies on the application of stainless steels as structural materials in buildings and infra-structures have been performed thanks to superior characteristics of corrosion resistance, fire resistance and aesthetic appeal. Experimental investigation to estimate the ultimate strength and fracture mode of the fillet-welded connections of cold-formed austenitic stainless steel (STS304L) with better intergranular corrosion resistance than that of austenitic stainless steel, STS304 commonly used has carried out by authors. Specimens were fabricated to fail by base metal fracture not weld metal fracture with main variables of weld lengths according to loading direction. All specimens showed a block shear fracture mode. In this paper, finite element analysis model was developed to predict the ultimate behaviors of welded connection and its validity was verified through the comparison with test results. Since the block shear behavior of welded connection due to stress triaxiality and shear-lag effects is different from that of bolted connection, stress and strain distributions in the critical path of tensile and shear fracture section were investigated. Test and analysis strengths were compared with those by current design specifications such as AISC, EC3 and existing researcher's proposed equations. In addition, through parametric analysis with extended variables, the conditions of end distance and longitudinal weld length for block shear fracture and tensile fracture were suggested.

작은 유한체 위에 정의된 타원곡선의 고속연산 방법 (A Fast Multiplication Method for Elliptic Curves defined on small finite fields)

  • Koblitz 타원곡선과 같이 표수(characteristic)가 2인 작은 유한체 위에서 정의된 non-supersingular 타원곡선은 스칼라 곱을 효율적으로 구현하기 위하여 프로베니우스 자기준동형 (Frobenius endomorphism)이 유용하게 사용된다. 본 논문은 확장된 프로베니우스 함수를 사용하여 스칼라 곱의 고속연산을 가능하게 하는 방법을 소개한다. 이 방법은 Muller[5]가 제안한 블록방법(block method) 보다 선행계산을 위해 사용되는 덧셈량을 줄이는 반면에 확장길이는 거의 같게 하므로 M(equation omitted )ller의 방법보다 효율적이다.

기초지반의 침하가 계단식 보강토 옹벽의 거동에 미치는 영향 (Behavior of Geosynthetic Reinforced Modular Block Walls with Settlement of Foundation)

  • 본 논문에서는 계단식 보강토 옹벽의 거동에 미치는 기초지반 침하의 영향에 관한 연구내용을 다루었다. 이를 위해 국내에서 기 시공된 현장 계단식 보강토 옹벽의 설계단면을 일반화하여 기본적인 설계단면을 설정하고, 검증된 유한요소모델을 이용하여 기초지반의 조건 및 상단의 이격거리에 대한 매개변수연구를 실시하였다. 그 결과 기초지반의 강성저하로 인해 기초지반의 침하와 아울러 보강토체의 강체이동이 발생하며, 이는 외적안정성을 감소시켜 벽체의 수평변위 및 유발인장력이 증가되는 원인으로 작용할 뿐만 아니라 하단옹벽의 내적안정성 저하의 원인으로도 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 상단의 이격거리가 증가함에 따라 하단의 벽체 변위와 유발인장력은 감소하는 양상을 나타냈으나 이격거리가 크지 않은 경우 상단옹벽 처리기준의 차이에도 불구하고 그 감소폭이 적어 상단옹벽의 영향평가 기준에 대한 추가 연구가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 고에서는 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 현 FHWA 설계기준설계기준의 타당성을 검토하였으며, 해석적 결과에 근거하여 불량한 기초 지반 조건하에 시공되는 옹벽에 대한 설계 주안점을 제시하였다.

계단식 보강토 옹벽의 거동에 관한 수치 해석적 연구 (Numerical Investigation on the Behavior of Geosynthetic Reinforced Modular Block Wells in a Tiered Arrangement)

  • 본 논문에서는 중요 설계변수에 따른 계단식 보강토 옹벽의 거동 특성에 관한 연구내용을 다루었다. 이를 위해 기본적인 설계단면을 설정하고, 검증된 유한요소모델을 이용하여 상단의 이격거리 및 상${\cdot}$하단 보강재의 포설길이에 대한 매개변수연구를 실시하였다. 그 결과 이격거리가 증가함에 따라 하단의 벽체 변위와 유발 인장력은 감소하는 양상을 나타냈으나, 현 설계기준에 근거한 상단옹벽 처리기준의 차이에도 불구하고 감소폭이 적어 상단옹벽의 등가상 재하중 선정 시 주의를 요하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 보강재 포설조건의 영향에 대한 고찰 결과 상${\cdot}$하단 포설길이가 증가함에 따라 각각 벽체변위는 감소하였으나 하단의 유발인장력의 경우 상${\cdot}$하단의 상호작용으로 인해 오히려 증가하는 양상을 보이는 것으로 분석되었다. 그 결과를 토대로 상${\cdot}$하단 보강재의 임계 길이를 산정한 결과 $D=0.25{\sim}0.5H$의 이격거리 조건에 있어 상단은 $0.6{\sim}0.7H$, 하단은 0.6H 정도로 나타났다. 또한 해석결과에 의한 유발인장력과 현 설계기준에 근거하여 산정한 유발인장력을 비교한 결과 현 설계기준은 하단 보강재 하부에서의 유발인장력을 과대평가하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 현 설계기준의 타당성을 검토하였다.

볼 엔드밀 공정에서 공구변형 예측에 관한 연구 (Prediction of Tool Deflection in Ball-end Milling Process)

  • A new measuring method for tool deflection has been developed when sculptured surface is processed in ball-end milling. Since the vibration due to cutting forces has low frequencies, an electromagnetic sensor is used for measuring the exact vibration displacement. The amplitude and direction of vibration displacement during the cutting process is presented as orbital plot. In this study, it assumes that the vibration displacement is proportional to the length of cutting chip. Therefore, tool deflection is calculated by summing up the vibration displacement of unit chip length for engaged chip length. In addition, computer programs has been developed to predict the deflection of tools when machining sculptured surface. This developed program predicts the tool deflection per block of NC data, so that it can easily identify the parts which have the possibility of machining errors.

  • The state assignment for a finite state machine greatly affects the delay, area, and testabilities of the sequential circuits. In order to minimize the dependencies among state variables, therefore possibly to reduce the length and number of feedback cycles, a new state assignment technique based on m-block partition is introduced in this paper. After the completion of state assignment and logic synthesis, partial scan design is performed to choose minimal number of scan flip-flops. Experiment shows drastic improvement in testabilities while preserving low area and delay overhead.

  • This paper presents some proposed methods for discontinuum analysis with rock discontinuities data acquisited in tunnel design stage. The limit equilibrium method for rock block sliding and falling proposed in this paper can consider the tunnel excavation and support stage, and, to the extent, the standard deviations and means of joint set orientation. Simple Distinct Elemet modelling methods are recommended in estimating the stability of tunnels in jointed rock masses. Because, the simple models are likely to show more consistent and clear than very complex model with finite joint length and joint deviation parameters.

Effect of Fluid Mesh Modeling on Surface Ship Shock Response under Underwater Explosion

  • In this study, for the investigation of effects of several parameters, such as fluid mesh boundary size, cylinder or block shape, dimensions of depth, breadth and length at free suface, and fluid mesh element size to the depth direction on a reliable shock response of finite element model under underwater explosion with consideration of the bulk cavitation analysis of a simplified surface ship was carried out using the LS-DYNA3D/USA code. The shock responses were not much affected by the fluid mesh parameters. The computational time was greatly dependent on the number of DAA boundary segments. It is desirable to reduce the DAA boundary segments in the fluid mesh model, and it is not necessary to cover the fluid mesh boundary to or beyond the bulk cavitation zone just for the concerns about an initial shock wave response. It is also the better way to prefer cylinder type of the fluid mesh model to the block one.
