Corrugated membranes which are used as a means of liquid- and gas-sealing for a LNG storage tank and provide one of the most reliable primary barrier are the main component of in-ground membrane types for the assurance of high safety. It absorbs large thermal and mechanical deformations caused by ultra low temperature of LNG, -162 .deg.c, the cryogenic liquid and mechanical deformations caused by was carried out on crossing corrugation by commercial F.E code, ANSYS. This paper presents some of results in stress analysis of membranes performed for the purpose to investigate the strength of existing membrane for LNG storage tank designed by IHI,MHI, KHI and KGC expect for Technigaz eariy published. Based on these analytical studies, design criteria were estabilished and SHI original membranes having a high level of safety and fitting to larger capacities were developed.
An immersed boundary method for simulation of density-stratified flows has been developed and applied to computation of viscous flows past three different types of obstacle under table density stratification, namely laminar flows past a vertical barrier, a cosine hill, and a sphere, respectively. Density forcing is introduced on the body surface or inside the body. Significant changes in flow characteristics are observed depending on Fr. The numerical results are in good agreement with other authors' experimental and numerical results currently available, and shed light on computation of density-stratified flows in complex geometries.
This paper presents detailed characteristic of a Reluctance Synchronous Motor(RSM) which has a transverse-laminated rotor. First of all, the analysis of a magnetic circuit field between stator and rotor should be achieved in order to predict the performance characteristic of the RSM. For the analysis of a magnetic circuit field, the Finite Element(FE) analysis and a experimental method are used. The analytical result of the inductance flux distribution, vector potential, and the output shows some good characteristic along with the load condition.
This paper presents active noise control for the reduction of transmission noise passing through opening of enclosures. Enclosures are essential measure to protect noise propagation from operating machinery. Access openings of the enclosures are important path of noise leakage. First, we modeled and analyzed the noise characteristics passing through the openings of the enclosure generated by the operation of the machinery based on the finite element method. We then implemented a feedforward controller to actively control the acoustic power through the opening. Finally, we conducted optimization of placement of the reference sensors for several cases of the number of sensors. A good control performances were achieved using a minimum number of microphones arranged a optimal placement.
Several techniques have been adopted in motor design of interior permanent magnet (IPM) type brushless DC (BLDC) motor to minimize cogging torque. IPM type motor has better ability in the centralization of flux than surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) type BLDC motor. So, the structure of IPM type BLDC motor has high saliency ratios that produce additional torque. However, this structure has a significant cogging torque that generates both vibration and noise. This paper describes new technique of the flux barriers design for reduction of cogging torque of IPM type BLDC motor. To reduce the cogging torque, flux barriers are applied in the rotor. Changing the number of barrier, the cogging torque is analyzed by finite clement method(FEM).

The binding energies of the ground state of both the heavy-hole and light-hole excitons in a GaAs(In\ulcornerGa\ulcornerAs) quantum well sandwiched between two semi-infinite Al\ulcornerGa\ulcornerAs(InP) layers are calculated as a function of well width in the presence of an arbitray magnetic field. A variational approach is followed using very simple trial wave function. The applied magnetic field is assumed to be parallel to the axis of growth and the binding energies are calculated for a finite value of the height of the potential barrier. The exciton binding energies for a given value of the magnetic field are found to be increased than their values in a zero magnetic field due to the compression of their wave functions within the well with the applied magnetic field.
An immersed boundary method for simulation of density-stratified flows is developed and applied to computation of viscous flows over two-dimensional obstacles in a bounded domain under stable density stratification. Density sources/sinks are introduced on the body surface. Two obstacle shapes are used, a vertical barrier and a smooth cosine-shaped hill; weak stratification, defined by $K=ND/{\pi}U{\leq}1$, where U, N, and D are the upstream velocity, buoyancy frequency, and domain height, respectively, is considered. The results are consistent with other authors' calculations, and shed light on computation of density-stratified flows in complex geometries.
Recently, LCD Backlight Unit is being replaced from cold cathode fluorescent lamp(CCFL) to external electrode fluorescent lamp(EEFL) because the EEFL has high energy efficiency and long life. Also, it can reduce energy consumption and weight. So far, external electrode ring for EEFL is produced by sheet metal press forming process. Therefore it had low precision and much material loss. To solve these problems, Multi-Forming process that has five step forming process was invented. However, low productivity is another barrier. Product speed that is controlled by the rotational speed cannot be increased due to the unsatisfied design specification. The reason is that the gap between rolled two edge parts of the sheet plate is tightly inspected. Regarding this factor, the understanding of forming behavior to each process is inevitable. This paper describes the CAE analysis of the multi-forming process by PAM-STAMP.
UBM (Under Bump Metallurgy) of flip chip assemblies consists of several layers such as the solder wetting, the diffusion barrier, and the adhesion layers. In addition, IMC layers are formed between the solder wetting layers (e.g. Cu, Ni) and the solder. The primary failure mechanism of the solder joints in flip chips is widely known as the fatigue failure caused by thermal fatigues or electromigration damages. Sometimes, the premature brittle failure occurs in the IMC layers. However, these phenomena have thus far been viewed from only experimental investigations. In this sense, this paper presents a method for solid modeling of IMC layers in flip chip assemblies, thus providing a pre-processing tool for finite element analysis to simulate the IMC failure mechanism. The proposed modeling method is CSG-based and can also be applied to the modeling of UBM structure in flip chip assemblies. This is done by performing Boolean operations according to the actual sequences of fabrication processes
PURPOSES: This paper presents the results of computer simulations of roadside safety barrier, called by safety roller guardrail, consisting of rotational roller, rotation control plate, post and subsidiary members. The rotation roller and rotation control plate are made by EVA(ethylene vinyl acetate), and PE(polyester), respectively. METHODS: The occupant risk analysis has been carried out under vehicle crash condition for high containment level of SB-4 for the purpose of local road. Simulations are performed with the finite element code LS/DYNA-3D. RESULTS: The numerical results obtained by LS/DYNA-3D software from the viewpoints of vehicle stability, vehicle trajectory, occupant risk, etc. CONCLUSIONS: It is noted that not only impact severity is drastically reduced but also vehicle trajectory is improved due to the characteristics of energy absorption and rotation pattern of EVA rollers connected by control plates.
