Fingerprints have been widely used in the biometric authentication because of its performance, uniqueness and universality. Recently, the speed of identification becomes a very important point in the fingerprint-based security applications. Also, the reliability still remains the main issue in the fingerprint identification. In this paper, we propose the fast and reliable fingerprint matching algorithm based on the process of the 'self-nonself' discrimination in the biological immune system. The proposed algorithm is organized by two-matching stage. The 1st matching stage does the matching process by the use of the 'self-space' and MHC detector string set that are generated from the minutiae and the values of the directional field. Then the 2nd matching stage is made based on the local-structure of the minutiae. The proposed two matching stage reduces matching time while the reliability of the matching algorithm is maintained.

Fingerprint image quality checking is one of the most important issues in on-line fingerprint recognition because the recognition performance is largely affected by the quality of fingerprint images. In the past, many related fingerprint quality checking methods have typically considered the local quality of fingerprint. However, It is necessary to estimate the global quality of fingerprint to judge whether the fingerprint can be used or not in on-line recognition systems. Therefore, in this paper, we propose both local and global-based methods to calculate the fingerprint quality. Local fingerprint quality checking algorithm considers both the condition of the input fingerprints and orientation estimation errors. The 2D gradients of the fingerprint images were first separated into two sets of 1D gradients. Then, the shapes of the PDFs(Probability Density Functions) of these gradients were measured in order to determine fingerprint quality. And global fingerprint quality checking method uses neural network to estimate the global fingerprint quality based on local quality values. We also analyze the matching performance using FVC2002 database. Experimental results showed that proposed quality check method has better matching performance than NFIQ(NIST Fingerprint Image Quality) method.
A direct authentication from gray-scale image, instead of the conventional multi-step preprocessing, is proposed using Gabor filter-based features from the gray-scale fingerprint around core point. The core point is located as a reference point for the translation invariant matching. And its principal symmetry axis is detected for the rotation invariant matching from its neighboring region centered at the core point. And then fingerprint is divided into non-overlapping blocks with respect to the core point and features are directly extracted form the blocked gray level fingerprint using Gabor filter. The proposed fingerprint authentication is based on the Euclidean distance between the corresponding Gabor features of the input and the template fingerprints. Experiments are conducted on 300${\times}$300 fingerprints obtained from a CMOS sensor with 500 dpi resolution, and the proposed method could lower the False Reject Rate(FRR) to 18.2% under False Acceptance Rate(FAR) of 0%.
This paper has been studied a Adaptive feature-factors based fingerprints recognition in many biometrics. we study preprocessing and matching method of fingerprints image in various circumstances by using optical fingerprint input device. The Fingerprint Recognition Technology had many development until now. But, There is yet many point which the accuracy improves with operation speed in the side. First of all we study fingerprint classification to reduce existing preprocessing step and then extract a Feature-factors with direction information in fingerprint image. Also in the paper, we consider minimization of noise for effective fingerprint recognition system.
Delaunay triangulation is suitable for fingerprint matching because of its robustness to rotation and translation. However, missing and spurious minutiae degrade the performance and computational efficiency. In this paper, we propose a method of combining local quality assessment and 4-category minutiae classification to improve accuracy and decrease computational complexity in matching process. Experimental results suggest that removing low quality areas from matching candidate areas and classifying minutiae improve computational efficiency without degrading performance. The results proved that the proposed algorithm outperforms the matching algorithm (BOZORTH3) provided by NIST.
A direct RTI(Rotation and translation invariant) fingerprint identification is proposed using the GCMs(generalized complex moments) and Gabor filter-based features from the grey level fingerprint around core point. The core point is located as reference point for the translation invariant matching. And its symmetry axis is detected for the rotation invariant matching from its neighboring region centered at the core point. And then, fingerprint is divided into non-overlapping blocks with respect to the core point and, in contrast to minutiae-based method using various processing steps, features are directly extracted from the blocked grey level fingerprint using Gabor filter, which provides information contained in a particular orientation in the image. The Proposed fingerprint identification is based on the Euclidean distance of the corresponding Gabor features between the input and the template fingerprint. Experiments are conducted on 300 ${\times}$ 300 fingerprints obtained from the CMOS sensor with 500 dpi resolution, and the proposed method could obtain 97% identification rate.

The result of fingerprint matching is different as the quality or the state of input fingerprint image. We can extract the false direction information when the quality of fingerprint is degraded by the noise or the scars of the ridges. The information of the direction is very important for the elimination of the false minutia, the measurement of the ridge distance, matching, finding of cores and deltas. We need the method which can compensate or correct the false information of directions because the false directions include serious errors in the fingerprint recognition. We propose a method which can compensate or correct the false direction of fingerprint with a \alpha$-trimmed mean filter followed by LPF to reconstruct the false direction information when fingerprints are corrupted by scars.
This paper presents only a matching algorithm based on Delaunay triangulation and Parametrization from the extracted minutiae points. This method maps local neighborhood of points of two different point sets to unit-circle using topology information by Delaunay triangulation method from feature points of real fingerprint. Then, a linked convex polygon that includes an interior point is constructed as one-ring which is mapped to unit-circle using Parametrization that keep shape preserve. In local matching, each area of polygon in unit-circle is compared. If the difference of two areas are within tolerance, two polygons are consider to be matched and then translation, rotation and scaling factors for global matching are calculated.

Recently, social requirements of personal identification techniques are rapidly expanding in a number of new application ares. Especially fingerprint recognition is the most important technology. Fingerprint recognition technologies are well established, proven, cost and legally accepted. Therefore, it has more spot lighted among the any other biometrics technologies. In this paper we propose a new on-line fingerprint recognition algorithm for non-inked type live scanner to fit their increasing of security level under the computing environment. Fingerprint recognition system consists of two distinct structural blocks: feature extraction and feature matching. The main topic in this paper focuses on the feature matching using the fingerprint minutiae (ridge ending and bifurcation). Minutiae matching is composed in the alignment stage and matching stage. Success of optimizing the alignment stage is the key of real-time (on-line) fingerprint recognition. Proposed alignment algorithm using clique shows the strength in the search space optimization and partially incomplete image. We make our own database to get the generality. Using the traditional statistical discriminant analysis, 0.05% false acceptance rate (FAR) at 8.83% false rejection rate (FRR) in 1.55 second average matching speed on a Pentium system have been achieved. This makes it possible to construct high performance fingerprint recognition system.
Minutiae-based fingerprint identification systems use minutiae points, which cannot completely characterize local ridge structures. Further, this method requires many methods for matching two fingerprint images containing different number of minutiae points. Therefore, to represent the fired length information for one fingerprint image, the filterbank-based method was proposed as an alternative to minutiae-based fingerprint representation. However, it has two shortcomings. One shortcoming is that similar feature vectors are extracted from the different fingerprints which have the same fingerprint type. Another shortcoming is that this method has overload to reduce the rotation error in the fingerprint image acquisition. In this paper, we propose the minutia-weighted feature vector extraction method that gives more weight in extracting feature value, if the region has minutiae points. Also, we Propose new fingerprint alignment method that uses the average local orientations around the reference point. These methods improve the fingerprint system's Performance and speed, respectively. Experimental results indicate that the proposed methods can reduce the FRR of the filterbank-based fingerprint matcher by approximately 0.524% at a FAR of 0.967%, and improve the matching performance by 5% in ERR. The system speed is over 1.28 times faster.
