Automatic fingerprint identification is a process of direction extraction, binarization, thinning, minutiae extraction of fingerprint identification. In this process, binarization after direction extraction affects a process of thinning and minutiae extraction. The fasle binarization is increased the false minutiae extraction rate. In this paper, we proposed more exact minutiae extraction algorithm with more enhanced binarization method, compared with traditional binarization process. We could have more enhanced results by using the direction and the half distance between ridges as the threshold of binarization process. In an experiment, Fingerprint images from NIST DBI are tested and the result shows that the proposed binarization algorithm increases minutiae extraction.

Two types of informations are used for content-based video copy detection: spatial information and temporal information. The spatial information means content-based image fingerprint. This image fingerprint must have following characteristic. First, Extraction is simple. Second, pairwise independence for random selected two images. At last, Robust for modifications. This paper proposed image fingerprint method for contents based video copy detection. Proposed method's extraction speed is fast because this method's using block average, first order differentiation and second order differentiation that can be calculated add and minus operation. And it has pairwise independence and robust against modifications. Also, proposed method feature makes binary by comparisons and using coarse to fine structure, so it's matching speed is fast. Proposed method is verified by modified image that modified by VCE7's experimental conditions in MPEG7.

The purpose of this paper is the brief introduction of touchless fingerprint recognition and the assessment of interoperability between touchless and legacy rolled fingerprints for the wide use of touchless fingerprint recognition system. In order to assess the interoperability, the contrast and resolution of the touchless images are optimized firstly. And we perform the matching by using conventional minutiae-based matcher. Experimental results are promising that our touchless fingerprints have enough matching performance with equal error rate 7.9%. We can expect that our paper will make a significant contribution to the wide use of touchless fingerprint recognition and the increment of interoperability in the system integration between touchless-based and touch-based fingerprint systems.

In this paper, we propose a new automatic fingerprint identification system that identifies individuals in large databases. The algorithm consists of three steps; preprocessing, classification, and matching, in the classification. we present a new classification technique based on the statistical approach for directional image distribution. In matching, we also describe improved minutiae candidate pair extraction algorithm that is faster and more accurate than existing algorithm. In matching stage, we extract fingerprint minutiaes from its thinned image for accuracy, and introduce matching process using minutiae linking information. Introduction of linking information into the minutiae matching process is a simple but accurate way, which solves the problem of reference minutiae pair selection in comparison stage of two fingerprints quickly. This algorithm is invariant to translation and rotation of fingerprint. The proposed system was tested on 1000 fingerprint images from the semiconductor chip style scanner. Experimental results reveal false acceptance rate is decreased and genuine acceptance rate is increased than existing method.

The purpose of this paper is the development of a compensation algorithm by which the interoperability of fingerprint recognition can be improved among various different fingerprint sensor. In order to compensate for the different characteristics of fingerprint sensor, an initial evaluation of the sensors using both the ink-stamped method and the flat artificial finger pattern method was undertaken. This paper proposes Common resolution method and Relative resolution method for compensating different resolution of fingerprint images captured by disparate sensors. Both methods can be applied to image-level and minutia-level. In order to compensate the direction of minutiae in minutia-level, Unit vector method is proposed. The EER of the proposed method was improved by average 64.8% better than before compensation. This paper will make a significant contribution to interoperability in the system integration using different sensors.

This paper, which is about the method of creating the audio fingerprint and comparing with the audio data, presents how to distinguish music using the characteristics of audio data. It is a process of applying the Difference of Gaussian (DoG: generally used for recognizing images) to the audio data, and to extract the music that changes radically, and to define the location of fingerprint. This fingerprint is made insensitive to the changes of sound, and is possible to extract the same location of original fingerprint with just a portion of music data. By reducing the data and calculation of fingerprint, this system indicates more efficiency than the pre-system which uses pre-frequency domain. Adopting this, it is possible to indicate the copyrighted music distributed in internet, or meta information of music to users.

The use of minutiae by fingerprint readers is robust against presentation attacks, but one weakness is that the mismatch rate is high. Therefore, minutiae tend to be used with skeleton images. There have been many studies on security vulnerabilities in the characteristics of minutiae, but vulnerability studies on the skeleton are weak, so this study attempts to analyze the vulnerability of presentation attacks against the skeleton. To this end, we propose a method based on the skeleton to recover the original fingerprint using a learning algorithm. The proposed method includes a new learning model, Pix2Pix, which adds a latent vector to the existing Pix2Pix model, thereby generating a natural fingerprint. In the experimental results, the original fingerprint is restored using the proposed machine learning, and then, the restored fingerprint is the input for the fingerprint reader in order to achieve a good recognition rate. Thus, this study verifies that fingerprint readers using the skeleton are vulnerable to presentation attacks. The approach presented in this paper is expected to be useful in a variety of applications concerning fingerprint restoration, video security, and biometrics.

Ridge orientations of fingerprint image are crucial informations in many parts of fingerprint recognition such as enhancement, matching and classification. Therefore it is essential to extract the ridge orientations of image accurately because it directly affects the performance of the system. The two main properties of ridge orientation are 1) global characteristic(gradual change in whole part of fingerprint) and 2) local characteristic(abrupt change around core and delta points). When we only consider the local characteristic, estimated ridge orientations are well around singular points but not robust to noise. When the global characteristic is only considered, to estimate ridge orientation is robust to noise but cannot represent the orientation around singular points. In this paper, we propose a novel method for estimating ridge orientation which represents local characteristic specifically as well as be robust to noise. We reduce the noise caused by scar using iterative outlier rejection. We apply adaptive measurement resolution in each fingerprint area to estimate the ridge orientation around singular points accurately. We evaluate the performance of proposed method using synthetic fingerprint and FVC 2002 DB. We compare the accuracy of ridge orientation. The performance of fingerprint authentication system is evaluated using FVC 2002 DB.
Point pattern matching schemes for finger print recognition do not guarantee robust matching performance for finger print images of poor quality. We present a finger print recognition scheme, where transformation parameter of matched ridge pairs are estimated by Hough transform and the matching hypothesis is verified by a new measure of the matching degree using selective directional information. Proposed method may exhibit extremely low FAR(False Accept Ratio) while maintaining low reject ratio even for the images of poor quality because of the robustness to the variation of minutia points.

Photography is the most commonly used method of documenting the crime and incident scene as it helps maintaining chain of custody (COC) and prove integrity of the physical evidence. It can also capture phenomena as they are. However, digital images can be manipulated and lose their authenticity as admissible evidence. Thus only limited techniques can be used to enhance images, and one of them is Fourier transform. Fourier transform refers to transformation of images into frequency signals. Fast Fourier transform (FFT) is used in this study. In this experiment, we overlapped fingerprints with graph paper or other fingerprints and separated the fingerprints. Then we evaluated and compared quality of the separated fingerprints to the original fingerprints, and examined whether the two fingerprints can be identified as same fingerprints. In the case of the fingerprints on graph paper and general pattern-overlapping fingerprints, fingerprint ridges are enhanced. On the other hand, in case of separating complicated fingerprints such as core-to-core overlapping and delta-to-delta overlapping fingerprints, quality of fingerprints can be deteriorated. Quality of fingerprints is known to possibly bring negative effects on the credibility of examiners. The result of this study may be applicable to other areas using digital imaging enhancement technology.
