Experimental Study of the Heat Transfer Rate of the Plate Fin-Tube Condenser for a Household Refrigerator (냉장고용 판형 핀-관 응축기의 열전달 성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • A plate-fin tube type heat exchanger has a lighter weight, approximately 30%, than the conventional circular-fin type condenser of household refrigerator. Because the low weight means low cost, it can have significant effects on the growth of related businesses if similar performance can be guaranteed. To check the possibility of the use of such a plate fin-tube condenser, experimental evaluations were performed in this study. Four different condensers including a conventional circular fin-tube condenser were used for the test. A well designed refrigerant supply system was used to supply similar conditions with a refrigerator, and the heat transfer rate and pressure drops of air side were measured precisely. As a result, the plate fin-tube type condensers showed a lower heat transfer rate of more than 13% than the conventional circular fin-tube type condenser, but the air side pressure drop was reduced and the heat transfer per unit weight was increased. Therefore, it shows the possibility of the use of a plate fin-tube type condenser after optimizing the air flow path and increasing the air flow to make a similar heat transfer rate.

  • R410A and R407C are considered to be alternative refrigerants to R22 for the air-conditioners. Experimental investigation is made to study the condensation heat transfer characteristics of slit fin-tube heat exchanger using alternative refrigerants R410A and R407C. R407C, a non-azeotropic refrigerant mixture, exhibited a quite different condensation phenomenon from those of R22 and R410A and its condensation heat transfer coefficient was much lower than that of R22 and R410A. Between the R22 and R410A, the condensation heat transfer coefficient of R410A, near-azeotropic refrigerant mixture, was a little higher than that of R22. R410A also showed the lowest condensation pressure drop across the test section. For all refrigerants, the condensation heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop increase as the mass flux increases.

  • Due to global warming and depletion of fossil fuels, technologies reducing $CO_2$ emission and increasing fuel efficiency simultaneously are required. An exhaust gas heat recovery system is a technology to satisfy both issues. This study analyses three types of heat exchanger installed on an exhaust pipe. In case of plate type heat exchanger, back pressure rapidly increased and maximum cylinder pressure reduced in high speed and maximum load, and back pressure increased over twice and specific fuel consumption also increased up to 2% which were the highest increasing rate. In case of fin tube type, the amounts of exhaust emissions and specific fuel consumption rate were less than the other two types. The effect of shell and tube was in the middle. Making a decision by only the effect on engine performance, a fin tube type is the best for exhaust heat recovery systems.

A Comparative Study on the Flow and Heat Transfer Performance Characteristics of Vortex Generators and Guide Vane in Fin-Tube (핀-튜브에서 와류 발생기와 가이드 베인의 유동 및 전열 성능 특성에 관한 비교 연구)

  • In this paper, the effects of the delta winglet vortex generator, the airfoil vortex generator and the guide vanes on the friction factor and the Colburn factor in the fin-tube flow were studied. The vortex generator and guide vane were non-dimensionalized based on the channel height and tube diameter, and locations were selected according to the authors' suggestions. The Reynolds number based on the inlet velocity and the tube diameter was selected in the range of 1400-8000. As a result, the friction factor resulted in a 4.7% decrease in guide vanes at the Reynolds number 8000 over the conventional fin-tube, and the Colburn factor resulted in a 33% increase in the delta winglet vortex generator at the Reynolds number 3800 over the conventional fin-tube.

  • 최근 소비전력 구제 및 $CO_{2}$ 발생량 구제 등으로 인하여 에너지 절약형 제품에 대한 요 구가 점증하고있어 핵심부품인 열교환기의 효율 향상은 숙명적인 과제라 할 수 있다. 에어컨에 사용되고 있는 응축기와 증발기(condenser/evaporator)는 대부분이 핀-튜브(fin-tube)형의 직교 류형 열교환기 (crossflow heat exchanger)이다. 이와 같은 열교환기의 성능에 영향을 미치는 인자들은 크게 핀과 튜브로 구성되는 기하학적인 인자와 공기부와 냉매부로 나뉘어지는 물리적인 인자로 나눌 수 있다. 이 글에서는 핀-튜브형 열교환기의 설계시 고려하여야 할 기하학적 인자와 물리적 인자에 대하여 기술하고자 한다.

Experimental study for the pressure drop of R-22 and R-4O7C during the condensation in the micro-fin tubes (마이크로핀관내에서 R-22와 R-4O7C의 응축압력강하 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Experiments were conducted for the investigation of pressure drop inside horizontal micro-fin tubes during the condensation of R-22 and ternary refrigerant. R-407C(HFC-32/125/134a 23/25/62 wt%) as a substitute of R-22. The condenser is a double-tube and counterflow type heat exchanger which is consisted with micro-fin tubes having 60 fins with a length of 4000mm, outer diameter of 9.53mm and fin height of 0.2mm. The mass velocity varied from 102.1 to $301.0kg/(m^2{\cdot}s)$ and inlet quality was fixed as 1.0. From the experimental results. the pressure drop for R-407C was considerably higher than that for R-22. The value of PF(penalty factor) for both of refrigerants was not bigger than the ratio of micro-fin tube area to smooth tube area. Based on the experimental data. correlation was Proposed for the prediction of frictional pressure drop during the condensation of R-22 and R-407C inside horizontal micro-fin tubes.

  • An experimental study has been conducted on the free convection heat transfer for the 7 kinds of circular finned tube heat exchangers. Empirical correlation was suggested at the range of 3,500$D_o$/$D_i$<3.0, 0.19<$P_f$/$D_i$<0.34. The 92% of experimental data agreed with the correlation within 10%.

  • Typically, condensate forms as droplets on the fin surfaces and may bridge the space between the fin surfaces. This is due to the dry characteristics inherent to the fin surface. The droplets increase the air-side pressure drop. In the case of high air velocities, these droplets may be blown off the fins and entrained in the air stream. To minimize the formation of condensate droplet, the wet ability of the fins must be improved. The carry-over velocity is affected by fin surface characteristics. To avoid carry-over in the air conditioner having the highest air velocity of 1.5 m/sec, the dynamic contact angle (DCA) should be at least lowly under $60^{\circ}$.

  • In order to develop the compact and flexible heat exchangers, we made the helically coiled heat exchangers. They can be manufactured with small diameter copper tubes without the need for fins; inner diameter=1.0 mm, straight tube length=1.5 m. The experiments were carried out with the following conditions; evaporation pressure=0.6 MPa, air velocity=0.7 ∼ 1.7 m/s, and working fluid=R-22. Pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient of heat exchangers were experimented according to the air velocity. The results of heat transfer coefficient show a 35% beneficial increase fur these heat exchangers over the other covered fin-tube heat exchangers. A cooling capacity of about 3 kW was obtained with an air velocity of 1.5 m/s. The distribution header has also been designed fur efficient distribution of refrigerant flow.
