  • For the development of new material used bentonite in ceramic/organic material composite, ABS(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) material was used as a matrix polymer and a series of bentonite was blended together. This bentonite, filler like talc or mica for plastic material, was used since natural bentonite(Ca type) is easily obtainable in Korea, Na-bentonite changed from natural bentonite by $Na_2CO_3$ based on the specified compositions, changes in the static and dynamic mechanical properties. It was discovered that the increased content of natural and Na- bentonite results in higher modulus with reduced impact strength. And Rockwell hardness was constant. And Na- bentonite filled polymer showed improvement in impact strength and lower in modulus as the natural bentonite filled polymer. The storage modulus(E') of Na- bentonite filled ABS resin was higher than that of Ca- bentonite filled ABS resin, while higher temperature, storage modulus(E') decreased. At higher frequency, tan ${\delta}$ peak was shifted at high temperature.

  • Glass fiber reinforced gypsum panels (GFRG) are hollow panels made from modified gypsum plaster and reinforced with chopped glass fibers. The hollow cores of panels can be filled with in-situ concrete/reinforced concrete or insulation material to increase the structural strength or the thermal insulation, respectively. GFRG panels are unfilled when used as partition walls. As load bearing walls, the panels are filled with M 20 grade concrete (reinforced concrete filling) in order to resist the gravity and lateral loads. The study was conducted in two stages: First stage involves formulation of the alternate light weight mix by conducting experimental investigations to obtain the optimum combination of phosphogypsum and shredded thermocol. In the second stage the alternate mixes are filled in GFRG panels and experimental investigations are conducted to compare the performance against panels filled with conventional M 20 mix.

  • In this study, I used wood pellets as an eco-friendly sound-absorbing material. The aim of the research was to analyze the effect of the filling height of wood pellets on sound absorption. This was done using two types of wood pellets of different lengths (A group: 1.5-3 cm, B group: less than 1.5 cm). With increasing filling height of the wood pellets, the optimum sound absorption shifted towards a lower frequency. The group B wood pellets had better sound absorption capacity than the group A ones. The optimum sound absorption coefficient of group A filled to a height of 7 cm was 0.722 at 864 Hz. On the other hand, that of group B filled to a height of 7 cm was 0.764 at 862 Hz, 5.82% higher than that of group A. While wood pellets are used as an eco-friendly fuel, the results of this study suggest the possibility of using wood pellets as an eco-friendly sound-absorbing material.

  • This paper describes the results of a study on the tracking performance of outdoor insulating materials based on the rotating wheel dip test(RWDT). And, the influence of surface degradation was evaluated through such as measurement of the flashover voltage after and before tracking test, also aspects of surface degradation using scanning electron microscopy. The time to tracking breakdown of treated filled specimen is longer than untreated filled specimen. And, after the RWDT, the surface of specimen by adding untreated filler appeared heavy erosion. It was found that the addition to surface treated filler, the better tracking resistance. In the RWDT, the breakdown specimen is not affected by the dry flashover voltage, despite the fact that the surface degradation of tracking test has different state on each specimen. This suggests that wet flashover voltage play an important role in evaluating of tracking and erosion on the surface degradation in tracking test. And, the flashover voltage of specimen under wet conditions are greatly affected by the salt concentration and degree of degradation by the RWDT Because of hydrophobicity and degree of degradation by the RWDT, the flashover voltage of treated filled specimen is higher than that of untreated filled specimen. Different types of specimen may have different hydrophobicity and their surface state under contaminated conditions may not be the same.

  • Fracture characteristics of plate shape using shock tube for glass filled ceramics was carried out. Glass filled ceramics have been considered as a promising candidate material for the dome port cover of air breathing engine. This part of the air breathing engine has an important role separating solid and liquid fuel, and needs the frangible characteristics that the fracture of a part should not affect the internal components of combustion. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the fracture pressures for various thicknesses and diameters of shock impact area. Also fracture phenomena of separated membrane using a shock tube are observed. The experimental apparatus of shock tube consists of a driver, a driven section and a dump tank. The used material is glass filled ceramic made from Corning company. Specimens are used 3, 4.5 and 6mm thickness. Also diameters of shock wave area are chosen 70, 60 and 50 mm. It is expected that the results obtained from this study can be used in the basic data for the dome port cover design of an air breathing engine.

  • This scientific paper provides a theoretical, numerical and experimental analysis of local stability of axially compressed columns made of thin-walled rectangular concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs), with the consideration of initial geometric imperfections. The work presented introduces the theory of elastic critical stresses in local buckling of rectangular wall members under uniform compression. Moreover, a numerical calculation method for the determination of the critical stress coefficient is presented, using a differential equation for a slender wall with a variety of boundary conditions. For comparison of the results of the numerical analysis with those collected by experiments, a new model is created to study the behaviour of the composite members in question by means of the ABAQUS computational-graphical software whose principles are based on the finite element method (FEM). In modelling the analysed members, the actual boundary and loading conditions and real material properties are taken into account, obtained from the experiments and material tests on these members. Finally, the results of experiments on such members are analysed and then compared with the numerical values. In conclusion, several recommendations for the design of axially compressed composite columns made of rectangular concrete-filled thin-walled steel tubes are suggested as a result of this comparison.

  • In this research, mathematical models for predicting the shelf life of packaged tofu in a polyethylene container were developed. Transfer of oxygen in air through the package and then diffusion of oxygen into the filled water and the tofu with the simultaneous oxygen consumption by micoorganisms were studied. The results of simulation showed that the increase of microorganisms in the filled water was more than that in tofu. As a result, it turns out that the shelf life of packaged tofu was not determined by the number of microorganisms in the tofu, but by that in the filled water. Additionally, the effects of physical properties of packaging material and packaged materials, such as the oxygen permeability of packaging material, oxygen diffusion coefficient and the initial oxygen concentration in filled water, and the depth of the filled water, on the shelf life of packaged tofu, were observed.

  • Since the upsetting type is superior to an extrusion type to get the dimensional accuracy of cold forged spur gear, the upsetting type process far spur gear cold forging has been studied. FE analysis of upsetting type process fur spur gear cold forging was performed to investigate about flow pattern of workpiece and die stress. To analyze the elastic characteristics of die, both rigid and elastic material model were used during loading stage. Under-filled defects were detected In lower portions of spur gear forged by upsetting type in experimental. When the elastic material model for die was used, the under-filled defects could be predicted. On the other hand, if the material model of die was rigid, the defects could not been presented because the die deflection was not considered.

  • This study investigates how to apply composite material to the blast loading protection devices, mainly used for military purpose. Traditionally, earth-filled blast walls have been used for protecting important parts of military facilities and personnels. However these types of blast walls show difficulty in fabrication and portability because of their nature of heavy weight. Composite materials are known to have relatively higher specific stiffness and strength than any other metallic and earth-filled materials such as sand and gravels. Totally 4 times of TNT blast experiments were performed on the carbon/epoxy blast walls. After the end of each test, the improvement of blast wall was implemented to the structure. The test results show that the use of composite material in the blast protecting area is the one of very effective and reliable alternatives.

  • The elasticity tensor for water may be employed to model the fully saturated porous material. Mostly water is assumed to be incompressible with a bulk modulus, however, the upper and lower bounds of off-diagonal components of the elasticity tensor of porous materials filled with water are violated when the bulk modulus is relatively high. In many cases, the generalized Hill inequality describes the general bounds of Voigt and Reuss for eigenvalues, but the bounds for the component of elasticity tensor are more realistic because the principal axis of eigenvalues of two phases, matrix and water, are not coincident. Thus in this paper, for anisotropic material containing pores filled with water, the bounds for the component of elasticity tensor are expressed by the rule of mixture and the upper and lower bounds of fully saturated porous materials are violated for low porosity and high bulk modulus of water.
