  • Concepts of greater and greater complexity can be constructed by building systems of entities, by relating other entities to that system with a figure-ground relation, by embedding concepts of figure-ground in the concept of change, by embedding that in causality, and by coarsening the granularity and beginning the process over again. This process can be called the Ontological Ascent. It pervades natural language discourse, and suggests that to do lexical semantics properly, we must carefully axiomatize abstract theories of systems of entities, the figure-ground relation, change, causality, and granularity. In this paper, I outline what these theories should look like.

  • It has been suggested that primates' trichromatic color vision is an adaption for folivory and frugivory. Ripened fruit frequently is red against a green background. Given this, the question for our research was whether the ecological relationship between red and green plays any role in figure-ground organization that is an essential step in forming our perception of objects? In this study, it was tested which color looked most strong as a figure, using a red circle on a green background and a green circle on red background. The results of Experiment 1 showed that most participants saw the red circle for the figure more than the green circle. However, this effect was significant only in females, but not in males. Accordingly, this result suggests that the visual development of figure-ground organization based on red-green color combination may differ between males and females. In Experiment 2, it was surveyed that the results of Experiment 1 was simply not by the sex difference of color preference. The gender difference of the figure-ground organization on red-green stimuli are discussed in terms of some recent hypotheses such as gatherer-hunter hypothesis.

  • Symbolism found in a certain object inherits characteristics from the culture that contains the objects. The purpose of this study was investigate the formative beauty of Korean trousers twisted the pieces together based on the way of Korean thinks and the Topology. The shape is formed by cutting from the fabric. From the perspective of semiology, the fabric and the pattern shape correspond to ground and figure. Ground and figure are identical with the principle of the whole and the part, which is the same in Korea, China, and the West. But In Korea, the 3-dimensional garment is made by adding a twist. This is very important and defines the difference in the way of thinking and topology. Korean trousers consist of three parts : Hury, Marupok, and Sapok. The small Sapok can be made by removing the Marupok and large Sapok (figure) from the fabric (ground) when making Korean trousers. A Mobius strip is made when the large Sapok is adjoined with the small Sapok by reversing the small Sapok, making a 180$^{\circ}$twist and then stitching together. The theory of Mobius strip can be applied in Joining Bajiburi. thus when the trousers are completed the Klein's bottle is seen because of the 2 existing Mobius strop. The theory of Mobius strip can be applied in Joining Bajiburi, thus when the trousers are completed the Klein's bottle is seen because of the 2 existing Mobius strip. Hury is cylinder while the small and large Sapok make up the Mobius strip. As a result, Mobius strip, Kleins'bottle, protective plan can be applied in cutting Hanbok used in the countryside, so I have come to see that the traditional Korean way of thinking is closely related to the theory of topological.

  • Objective: This study is to analyze the factor affecting elderly's speed of mobile phone ability. Method: Sixty healthy senior citizens who live in Kim-hye participated in Cognition, Visual perception, Speed of mobile phone ability and the collected data was analyzed by an independent multiple regression analysis. Result: The findings can be summarized as follows; 1. Although men were faster than women while using mobile phone, there was little satisfical significance(p<0.05). 2. Although people in their sixties were faster than people in their seventies while using mobile phone, there was minial difference(p<0.05). 3. The primary factor which affect mobile phone using speed is figure ground, visual memory, visual processing and the most beneficial discovery in the entire project is figure ground(p<0.05). Conclusion: The result of study showed that in order to enhance figure ground, visual memory, visual processing in mobile phone using speed. These results will be consider useful for elderly's mobile phone ability.

  • In this paper, study noise performance of LNA to enhance Q-factor of input circuit by patterned ground shield is inserted inductor using TSMC 0.18um. Applied LNA technology is cascode method. The input matching circuit was constituted on-chip and wirebonding inductor. Taguchi's method is used for the best suited structure of PGS. We confirmed enhancement of Q-factor by inserted PGS into inductor. The input matching circuit enhanced Q-factor by inductor with PGS improve noise figure of LNA.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to learning a discriminative model for figure/ground segmentation by incorporating the bag-of-features and conditional random field (CRF) techniques. We advocate the use of image patches instead of superpixels as the basic processing unit. The latter has a homogeneous appearance and adheres to object boundaries, while an image patch often contains more discriminative information (e.g., local image structure) to distinguish its categories. We use pixel-level sparse coding to represent an image patch. With the proposed feature representation, the unary classifier achieves a considerable binary segmentation performance. Further, we integrate unary and pairwise potentials into the CRF model to refine the segmentation results. The pairwise potentials include color and texture potentials with neighborhood interactions, and an edge potential. High segmentation accuracy is demonstrated on three benchmark datasets: the Weizmann horse dataset, the VOC2006 cow dataset, and the MSRC multiclass dataset. Extensive experiments show that the proposed approach performs favorably against the state-of-the-art approaches.

  • This study was designed to investigate how the size perception of letters is influenced by its relation to the ground, visual angle, physical size, letter space and cognitive direction. As a stimulus, a word in the Numeral and Hangul respectively were used in Experiments I and II. Fifty four different configurations consisting of two grounds, three visual angles and nine physical sizes were used as test patterns in Experiment I, and one hundred and eight different configurations consisting of two ground, three directions, two letter spaces and nine physical sizes were used in Experiment II. Subjects were asked to make magnitude estimates for perceived size of test patterns in both Experiments I and II. The results imply that the ground and visual angle affected the perceived size of the Numeral as a focal figure. We found that in Experiment I, the perceived size of the focal letter was clearly underestimated when the rate of physical size was larger than the real size which was a hundred(as the size of standard stimulus), and it was overestimated when the rate of physical size was smaller than a hundred. It was found that the effect of Delboeuf illusion influenced the perceived size of letter. The result of Experiment II shows that the ground, physical size, letter space and the cognitive direction affected the perceived size of Hangul as a focal figure. These findings suggest that size illusion of letters is caused by the size relationship (contrast or assimilation) between a letter perceived as figure and its ground.

  • In general, ground surface strengthening such as using geotextile is needed to secure trafficability of construction equipment. There are many researches for mechanical beha-vior of very soft ground covered with geotextile, however, most of them are under the condition to fix geotextile completely. In this study, numerical analyses were carried out to figure out the effects of restricting conditions of geotextile on bearing mechanism of very soft ground covered with geotextile. In numerical analyses, joint elements were used to figure out the friction properties between ground and geotextile. The results of numerical analyses were compared with the results of model test. In conclusion, the effects of restricting conditions of geotextile on bearing mechanism of very soft ground covered with geotextile became clear.
