Objectives: Exposure Assessment for workplace hazards where the exposure level is below occupational exposure limits(OELs) has been performed without considering either the degrees of risk or exposure levels and has failed to lead to intervention in many cases. The objective of this study was to suggest and test an application framework for risk assessment methodology under the current exposure assessment system in Korea. Materials: First, we investigated the exposure assessment systems in Korea and other countries. To adopt some risk assessment techniques, we also analyzed risk assessment systems and compared them to exposure assessment systems. A few suggestions were made. We held a public hearing during an industrial hygiene conference and took surveys using a questionnaire. Results: The first suggestion was to implement the risk assessment and exposure assessment through a "one-stop" system. In that case, one expected question would be who has been doing the jobs so far. In most cases, industrial hygiene consulting services or laboratories have been performing exposure assessment for business owners. Business owners are required to perform risk assessment. As two different groups of people will be required to implement two things in a one-stop system, they need to share information. As an information vehicle to share information, commonly filed survey checklists were suggested. The second suggestion was to categorize exposure level into four groups instead of the current binary divisions based on OELs. In the risk assessment system, exposure level is divided into four groups utilizing the cut-points of 10%, 50%, and 100% of OELs. The same schema can be adopted in the exposure assessment system and different levels of requirements can be assigned for each group. The third suggestion was regarding the regulation system. To provide the suggestions some thrust toward being implemented in the field, changes should be made in the legal system. Two different types of new exposure assessment result reporting forms were suggested. Some investigations such as an ergonomic survey are officially accepted as risk assessment under the current legal system. A few items were suggested to be included in the exposure assessment result reporting to be accepted as risk assessment. A pilot study in two small factories was performed and pointed out the strengths and weakness of our suggestions. Conclusions: Discussions and studies on the improvement of the exposure assessment system have been held for decades and no tangible changes have yet been made. We hope this result can help realize healthy lives for workers in Korea.
In order to evaluate undrained shear strength of clayey soils using Piezocone Penetration Test (CPTu), piezoncone factor is utilized. Commonly, piezoncone factors determined by empirical basis were preferred, which were established by correlation between measurements of piezocone test and undrained strengths obtained from other shearing tests. However, previous studies on the empirical piezocone factors were site-specific and there have been no systematic investigations on the effect of both engineering characteristics of clayey soils and soil non-homogeneity on the piezocone factor. Accordingly, the direct application of the previous results to Korean clayey soils without verification may be inappropriate. In this study, empirical piezocone factors are evaluated by comparing 46 CPTu results of 10 test sites with undrained shear strength obtained from Field Vane Test (FVT) and laboratory triaxial tests. Their reliabilities are investigated by the comparison with the previous piezocone factors and the deviation of data distribution from the mean values. And the effects of referencing test methods and typical engineering characteristics of clayey soils such as overconsolidation ratio (OCR) and plastic Index (I$_{p}$) are examined. Because piezocone factors obtained for various soil conditions are widely distributed, it is not appropriate to use the mean value as a representative. Instead, it is recommended to apply the piezocone factors with OCR, which is found to be a major factor in deriving piezocone factor. The necessitated piezocone factors are presented.d.

As the entrepreneurial ecosystem turns out to be a leading factor in improving nation's entrepreneurship, many studies are underway in the country to develop the start-up ecosystem. Although the entrepreneurial ecosystem is receiving attention as an essential factor for the nation's economic growth as well as entrepreneurship due to its inter-relationship with start-ups, government agencies and investors, criticism of measurement indicators has been increasing due to the different institutional and political contexts of each country, including the various definition of start-up ecosystem. In this study, we develop indicators that are suitable for domestic conditions in Korea and that can measure the level of start-up ecosystems in each regional level. FGI and Delphi surveys by scholarly experts in each field of start-ups & entrepreneurship were conducted to verify how well existing indicators fit the domestic situation and to develop indicators that can measure the local entrepreneurial ecosystem in Korea through close examination. As a result, the local entrepreneurial ecosystem consisted of three to four sub-components and 38 sub-components, each consisting of seven indicators, including Policy, Investment, Culture, Market, Human Capital, Support and Knowledge. It is expected that this research will be used to diagnose local start-up ecosystems and to propose discriminatory policies that can complement regional strengths and weaknesses.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the generality and applicability of Team-Based Learning model in a technical high school, based on the interviews with students and a teacher. Team-Based Learning model seems to be an effective way in improving the performance of groups as well as the individualized learning and team interaction. We applied a formative research method and identified the strengths of the model including learners' motivation and interests, learner-centered learning, self-efficacy through learning in advance, and concept acquisition from the repetitive learning process. However, we also found the weakness of the model including impracticality of instructional design, a lack of field-oriented problem banks, and needs for identifying learner characteristics and role in instruction. Finally, we analyzed the implications for the Team-Based Learning in the technical high schools in light of team formation, discussion types, active participation, and learners' prior knowledge and attitude, and pre-determined instructional design.
Rock mass is an important engineering material. In hydropower engineering, rock mass of bank slope controlled the stability of an arch dam. However, mechanical characteristics of the rock mass are not only affected by lithology, but also joints. On the basis of field geological survey, this paper built rock mass material containing parallel concentrated joints with different dip angle, different number under different stress conditions by PFC (Particle Flow Code) numerical simulation. Next, we analyzed mechanical property and fracture features of this rock mass. The following achievements have been obtained through this research. (1) When dip angle of joints is $15^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, with the increase of joints number, peak strength of rock mass has not changed much. But when dip angle increase to $45^{\circ}$, especially increase to $60^{\circ}$ and $75^{\circ}$, peak strength of rock mass decreased obviously with the increase of joints number. (2) With the increase of confining stress, peak strengths of all rock mass have different degree of improvement, especially the rock mass with dip angle of $75^{\circ}$. (3) Under the condition of no confining stress, dip angle of joints is low and joint number is small, existence of joints has little influence on fracture mode of rock mass, but when joints number increase to 5, tensile deformation firstly happened at joints zone and further resulted in tension fracture of the whole rock mass. When dip angle of joints increases to $45^{\circ}$, fracture presented as shear along joints, and with increase of joints number, strength of rock mass is weakened caused by shear-tension fracture zone along joints. When dip angle of joints increases to $60^{\circ}$ and $75^{\circ}$, deformation and fracture model presented as tension fracture zone along concentrated joints. (4) Influence of increase of confining stress on fracture modes is to weaken joints' control function and to reduce the width of fracture zone. Furthermore, increase of confining stress translated deformation mode from tension to shear.

Most of the problems in dealing with the tunnel construction are the uncertainties and complexities of the stress conditions and rock strengths in ahead of the tunnel excavation. The limitations on the investigation technology, inaccessibility of borehole test in mountain area and public hatred also restrict our knowledge on the geologic conditions on the mountainous tunneling area. Nevertheless an extensive and superior geophysical exploration data is possibly acquired deep within the mountain area, with up to the tunnel locations in the case of alternative design or turn-key base projects. An appealing claim in the use of artificial neural networks (ANN) is that they give a more trustworthy results on our data based on identifying relevant input variables such as a little geotechnical information and biological learning principles. In this study, error back-propagation algorithm that is one of the teaching techniques of ANN is applied to presupposition on Rock Mass Ratings (RMR) for unknown tunnel area. In order to verify the applicability of this model, a 4km railway tunnel's field data are verified and used as input parameters for the prediction of RMR, with the learned pattern by error back propagation logics. ANN is one of basic methods in solving the geotechnical uncertainties and helpful in solving the problems with data consistency, but needs some modification on the technical problems and we hope our study to be developed in the future design work.
First, based on extant studies in the field, the author extracts environments, general and personalized interactions between an internet shopping mall and its customers, interactions among customers, and outcomes as 5 relevant dimensions of the service quality of an internet shopping mal She derives hypotheses on the relationships between each of the service quality dimensions and each of the three components of the relationship quality, satisfaction, trust, and commitment. She also investigates the moderating role of the relationship duration defined by the length of use in the relationships. She studies the relationships among the three relationship quality components and their effects on the future intentions of relationship maintenance, too. Through a survey on college students and adult consumers, she gathers 349 qualified questionnaires. Applying regression methods on the data, she finds out that most of the relationships between each of the service quality dimensions and each of the relationship quality dimensions are statistically significant but that the strengths of relationship are quite different dimension by dimension. The moderating effect of the relationship duration is not found except one case, the relationship between general interactions and trust. The author also finds out positive relationships between satisfaction and trust between satisfaction and commitment, and between trust and commitment. Positive relationships between trust and the future intention of relationship maintenance and between commitment and the future intention are found. But the data does not reveal any statistically significant relationship beetween satisfaction and the future intention. The author provides a few implications of the research results and future research agenda.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of etching surface treatment and aging treatment of zirconia on the shear bond strength between zirconia core and veneered ceramic. Four groups of zirconia-ceramic specimens were prepared; 1) NEZ group (no etching zirconia), 2) EZ group (etching zirconia), 3) ANEZ group (aging and no etching zirconia), 4) AEZ group (aging and etching zirconia). The shear bond strength between zirconia and porcelain was measured using Instron Universal Testing Machine. Surface texture with crystalline structure of zirconia surface was examined by the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with ingredient analysis. The fractured surfaces of specimens were examined to determine the failure pattern by a digital microscope. The mean${\pm}$standard deviation of shear bond strengths were $23.47{\pm}3.47$ Mpa in NEZ, $28.30{\pm}4.34$ Mpa in EZ, $21.85{\pm}4.65$ Mpa in ANEZ, $24.65{\pm}3.65$ Mpa in AEZ group, respectively, and were significantly different (p<0.05). The average shear bond strength was largest in EZ group, followed by AEZ, NEZ, and ANEZ groups. Most specimens in NEZ group showed adhesive failure and most specimens in EZ, AEZ, and ANEZ group showed mixed failure. Surface of etching treatment group (EZ and AEZ) showed complex micro-structure and irregular surface texture which may facilitate mechanical interlocking, while untreated zirconia surface presented simpler micro-structure. In conclusion, an etching treatment improved bonding strength between zirconia and porcelain by forming mechanical interlocking.
The purpose of this study is an evaluation of the performance of a detector under radiographic irradiation condition by fabricating the polycrystalline $HgI_2$ film detector. The polycrystalline $HgI_2$ film detectors with thickness of 210 and $320\;{\mu}m$ were fabricated by screen print technology. Measurements of X-ray sensitivity and dark current were performed for two detectors. And measurements of the linearity of X-ray response and reproducibility were performed for the detector of thickness $320\;{\mu}m$. For applied electric field strengths from 0.05 to $2\;V/{\mu}m$ to the detector of thickness $320\;{\mu}m$, the X-ray sensitivities were measured from 233 to $1,408{\times}106\;electrons/mR{\cdot}mm^2$. And the dark currents were measured from 3.2 to $118\;pA/mm^2$. Compared with values reported by Zhong Su et al., the X-ray sensitivities exhibit about two times larger than the X-ray sensitivities measured by Zhong Su et al. And the dark currents exhibit about nine times larger than the dark currents measured by Zhong Su et al. The linearity of X-ray response acquired 0.988 as a coefficient of correlation (r). Reproducibility acquired 0.002 as a coefficient of variation. This study provides the performance data of fabricated polycrystalline $HgI_2$ film detector available for an active matrix flat panel imager under radiographic irradiation condition.

The hydroacoustic surveys to provide the essential information for the assessment, management and utilization of fishery resources in the southern waters of Korea were carried out during five research cruises between October 1996 and October 1997 by the training ship KAYA of Pukyong National University. These hydroacoustic investigations were designed to obtain more precise estimates of the geographic distribution, absolute abundance and biological characteristics of the fishery resources, and the vertically integrated densities of fish in terms of volume backscattering strength(SV) by survey region and depth bins, such as the entire water column and the 0~ 10 m from bottom fraction, were measured separately. Hydroacoustic data were collected by using a Simrad EK 500 Scientific echo sounder operating at two frequencies of 38kHz and 120kHz and the data stored in field were later processed on a HP PC using a Simrad EP 500 echo integration and target strength analysis system. The biological compositions of echo signal were identified and sampled using a demersal trawl during daylight hours. The mean target strength to scale the echo integration data for hydroacoustic surveys was derived from the relationship between the SV and the weight of trawl catch per unit volume of the water column sampled by demersal trawls. The results obtained can be summarized as follow : 1. The mean volume backscattering strength for the entire water column in the southern waters of Korea between 1996 and 1997 were -67.2 dB and -70.9 dB at two frequencies of 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively, and for the bottom layer of the 0-10 m from bottom friction were -68.8 dB, -70.2 dB, respectively. That is, the volume backscattering strength for the entire water column at low frequency was higher than that at high frequency. 2. The relationship between the mean backscattering strength (〈SV〉, dB) for the depth strata of trawl hauls and the weight (C, kg/m3) per cubic meter of the catch sampled by bottom trawling in the southern waters of Korea in January and July 1997 were expressed by the following equations: 38 kHz : 〈SV〉= -28.2 + 10 log(C), 120 kHz : 〈SV〉= -32.4 + 10 log(C). The mean weight -normalized target strengths derived from these equitions were -28.2 dB/ kg, -32.4 dB/ kg at 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively. That is, the mean weight -normalized target strength at 38 kHz was 4.2 dB higher than that at 120 kHz. 3. The distribution density of fish in terms of biomass per unit volume in the southern waters of Korea were estimated to be 125.9 $\times$ 10-6 kg/m3 and 141.3 $\times$ 10-6 kg/m3 at 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively.
