  • Tumors that metastasize to the pituitary gland are unusual and metastasis of neuroendocrine neoplasm to the sellar region is extremely rare. We report a 59-year-old man with pituitary metastasis from pulmonary carcinoid tumor who presented with left progressive deterioration of visual field. Sellar dynamic magnetic resonance imaging revealed an enhancing sellar mass invading the left cavernous sinus. We report this unusual case with a review of the relevant literature.

  • We report on a simple and robust route to the spontaneous assembly of well-ordered magnetic nanoparticle superstructures by irreversible evaporation of a sessile single droplet of a mixture of a ferrofluid (FF) and a nonmagnetic fluid (NF). The resulting assembled superstructures are seen to form well-packed, vertically arranged columns with diameters of $5{\sim}0.7{\mu}m$, interparticle spacings of $9{\sim}2{\mu}m$, and heights of $1.3{\sim}3{\mu}m$ The assembled superstructures are strongly dependent on both the magnitude of magnetic field and the mixing ratio of the mixture. As the magnitude of the externally applied magnetic field and the mixing ratio of the mixture increase gradually, the size and interspacing of the magnetic nanoparticle aggregations decrease. Without an externally applied magnetic field, featureless patterns are observed for the ${\gamma}-Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticle aggregations. The proposed approach may lead to a versatile, cost-effective, fast, and scalable fabrication process based on the field-induced self-assembly of magnetic nanoparticles.

  • Hydraulically driven manipulators are superior to electrically driven ones in the power density and electrical insulation. But an electro-hydraulic manipulator using hydraulic actuators has many nonlinear elements, and its parameter fluctuations are greater than those of electrically driven manipulator. So it is relatively difficult to realize not only stable contact work but also accurate force control for the autonomous field tasks such as the maintenance task of high voltage active electric line or the automatic excavation task by hydraulic excavator. In this report, we propose robust force control algorithm, which can be applied to the real field task such as the construction field, nuclear plant and so on. Proposed force controller has the same structure as that of disturbance observer for position control. The difference between force and position disturbance ...

  • The MATS (Mesosphere Airglow/Aerosol Tomography Spectroscopy) satellite is the next Swedish science microsatellite. We report optical performance test results of the limb telescope, which is the major payload. This telescope is designed with "linear astigmatism-free" (LAF) off-axis optical system in order to have high optical performance across the wide field of view. We measured Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and Encircled Energy Diameter (EED) of the limb telescope. Full field imaging tests show expected results without linear astigmatism across the full field of view ($5.67^{\circ}{\times}0.91^{\circ}$). Since the amount of stray light is from the earth and the sun, we also simulated and measured the stray light in the field image.

  • Compound semiconductor/CNTs composites have shown considerably improved efficiency improvement in photovoltaic devices, which is often attributed to two different factors. One is the formation of efficient electronic energy cascade structures. The other effect of CNTs on the performance of photovoltaic devices is the decrement of interfacial resistance. The interfacial resistances at n-type/ p-type materials and/or n-type materials/TCO electrode are reduced by an outstanding electrical property of CNTs. In addition to the effects of CNTs, we report the third reason for increment of efficiency in photovoltaic devices by CNT's well-known electrical field enhancement effects. The improved ${\beta}$ values in reverse-FE currents of CIGS electrode with SWNTs layers indicate the enhancement of electrical field in photovoltaic devices, which implies the acceleration of the electron transfer rate in the cell. Due to the formation of an efficient electronic energy cascade structure and the decrease of the interfacial resistance as well as the improvement of the electrical field in the photovoltaic devices, the power conversion efficiency of electrochemically deposited superstrate-type CIGS solar cells was increased 24.3% in the presence of SWNTs and showed 10.40% conversion efficiency.

  • This paper is to report the results on the design and construction of a thermal plasma generator with high current DC source. Also, this paper presents the methods to stabilize plasma and to find effects of process variables on plasma characteristics. For this purpose, the reaction chamber, vacuum system, plasma generating torch, magnetic field generating coil with power supply, high current DC source and the other parts have been designed. Fundamental properties of the thermal plasma under various conditions have been measured and analyzed. Magnetic Reynolds Number has been introduced to explain the relationship between plasma and external magnetic field. Through this number, the effect of magnetic field on the plasma has been explained under various flow rates and pressure. A sudden increase in the plasma voltage has been observed with the increase of magnetic field. From this, fundamental changes in plasma flow are believed to occur at the nozzle, and an effort to explain the phenomenon has been tried.

  • We report the development of full-field swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) in the wavelength range of 815-870 nm using a unique combination of super-luminescent diode (SLD) as broad-band light source and acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) as a frequency-scanning device. Some new applications of full-field SS-OCT in forensic sciences and engineering materials have been demonstrated. Results of simultaneous topography and tomography of latent fingerprints, silicon microelectronic circuits and composite materials are presented. The main advantages of the present system are completely non-mechanical scanning, wide-field, compact and low-cost.

  • We report the observed peculiar double four lobe textures in CNT dispersed nematic liquid crystal under vertical field. The electro optic studies in a wide range of applied field showed that the double four lobe texture was observed only in the field range of 120 to 160v. This observed peculiar phenomena is explained in terms field induced movement of CNTs and the subsequent reorientation of Liquid crystal molecules.

  • We report the dark spots in organic light emitting diodes by using a near-field scanning microwave microscope. Devices structure was glass / indium-tin-oxide(ITO) / copper-pthalocyiane(Cu-Pc) / tris-(8-hydroquinoline)aluminum(Alq3) / aluminum(Al). We made artificial dark spots by using a etching technique on a ITO substrate. Near-field scanning microwave microscope images and reflective coefficient of dark spots were measured and compared by the change of various applied voltage changes 0-15V.

  • This survey report introduced briefly peat deposits in SAKHALIN island of eastern SIBERIA continent. Peat industry was promoted as leading resources for development in this island by national control economic plan of central government before CIS. But development of deposit was left suspension of operation due to investment now. In southern area, about 10km from Yuzunosakhalinsk, two deposits of peat field were explored. One of them (Troisk) was suspended at begining stage of peat harvest from 300ha field and the other(Missilop) was producing the compact peat through drying and pulverizing from 350ha peat field which showed long run harvest activities. There are plenty of peat deposits near the Polonai Reika (river) in the central area of this island, At Zbaikaritz, 40km nothern area from Polonaisk, 135ha of peat field was developed. This field was left without working but established field preparation and could be able to be harvested any time if machines and utlities were settled. At southern suburb 10km from Polonaisk, about 40ha field of virgin deposit has been established planning for development. The plan involved estimated amount of peat, deposit depth, water level, drainage and leading road. The most of peat deposits accumulated from sphagnum moss. Texture is coarse but it contains more than 95% of organic carbon near to 0.5% of total nitrogen and acidity showed pH4-5.
