Objective : Whether exposure to chronic noise induces an increase in blood pressure, or the development of hypertension, has not been established. A cohort study was performed to identify the effects of chronic noise exposure on blood pressure. Methods : 530 males working at a metal manufacturing factory in Busan, Korea were enrolled for the study. They were monitored for 9 consecutive years, from 1991 to 1999, with an annual health check-up. The subjects were divided into 4 groups, which were determines by noise level categories(NLC) according to noise intensity ; NLC-I: office workers, exposed to noise a level below 60dB(A) ; NLC-II: field technical supporters or supervisors, frequently exposed to workplace noise, wearing no hearing protection device; NLC-III: workers, exposed to workplace noise below 85dB(A), wearing ear plugs or muffs; NLC-IV: workers, exposed to workplace noise over 85 dB(A), wearing both ear plugs and muffs. Results : After controlling possible confoundens, such as baseline age, smoking, alcohol intake, exercise, family history of hypertension, systolic(SBP) of diastolic blood pressure(DBP) and changes in BMI (body mass index), the pooled mean for the systolic blood pressures, over the duration of the study period, were 3.8mmHg, 2.0mmHg and 1.7mmHg higher in NLC-IV, NLC-III NLC-II groups, respectively, than in the NLC-I group. There were no significant differences in the diastolic blood pressures between the groups. Conclusion : This study suggests that chronic noise exposure increases systolic blood pressure independently, among male workers.
In order to investigate the effects of water temperature on chemical properties of soil and nutrient uptake of rice plant, four varieties of rice were cultivated in a field where water temperature range was $17.3-23.0^{\circ}C$ and plant samples were taken at three growing stages and were analyzed in detail. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Organic matter content and pH of surface soil were showed no differences while the contents of $P_2O_5$ and $SiO_2$ were increased and potassium was decreased as the water temperature increased. 2. The amounts of nutrient uptake were related to the water temperature and the total nutrient contents of rice plants at harvesting stage were in order of $SiO_2$ > $K_2O$ > T-N > $P_2O_5$ > MgO. The rate of $SiO_2$/N and $K_2O$/N of rice plants grown at water temperature $23.0^{\circ}C$ were over two times to those of the water temperature $17.3^{\circ}C$. 3. Nutrient contents of rice plants showed a increasing tendency as increasing the water temperature. However, nutrient contents such as T-N at whole period, $P_2O_5$ at heading and harvesting stage, and $K_2O$ at heading stage were higher at low water temperature than those of high water temperature. 4. Most of nitrogen was translocated and accumulated in grain, potassium in straw respectively. All nutrients translocated to grain more easily as the water temperature increased.

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of various kinds of composts on the change of nutrition loss in upland soils. Field experiments were conducted in the loam and sandy loam soils, while the clay loam and sandy loam soils were used for laboratory experiments. Various kinds of composts such as poultry manure compost(PMC), cow manure compost(CMC), human excrement sludge(HES), and food industrial sludge compost(FISC) were applied annually at rates of 0, 40, and $80mg\;ha^{-1}$ to soils grown with soybean and maize plants for 4 years during 1994 to 1997. The results of this study were as follows : The loss of nutrients in the form of cation and anion by run-off water increased with the increase of compost application rate. Compared with bare soils, maize cultivation decreased the nutrient loss by run-off from soils by 43% in anionic form and 32% in cationic form. Amount of cation loss were ordered $K^+$ > $Ca^{2+}$ > $Na^+$ > $Mg^{2+}$ > $NH_4{^+} $ and that of anion loss were ordered $SO_4{^{2-}}$ > $NO_3{^-}$ > $Cl^-$ > $PO_4{^{3-}}$. Nutrient loss of sand loam soil in the cation and anion by percolation water increased 1.7 times compared with loam soil. $NO_3{^-}-N$ contents in percolated water were high at the initial stage after compost application, and the amounts were higher in sandy loam soil than loam soil. The maize cultivation also decreased the $NO_3{^-}-N$ contents in percolated water by 82% in loam soil, and 58% in sand loam soil. Soil pH of composts determined by laboratory incubation test increased pH 6.1~6.8 application with poultry and cow manure compost but application with human excrement sludge decreased pH 4.5~4.7. Soil EC were increased initially composts application and decreased up to 2 weeks, thereafter kept a certain level. Nitrogen mineralization rates of composts determined by laboratory incubation test at $25^{\circ}C$ were 39~76% in sandy loam soil, and 16~48% in clay loam soil.

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of various kinds of composts on the change of soil chemical properties in upland soils. Field experiments were conducted in the loam and sandy loam soils. The results of this study were as follows : The continuous application of human excrement sludge decreased soil pH up to 4.4~5.0, while other compost treatments increased soil pH compared with control plot. The EC increased initially and showed their maximum values at 20days after compost application, and then decreased up to 40 days, thereafter kept a certain level. The available phosphorous accumulated at 0~20cm depth in loam soil, and 0~50cm in sandy loam soil. Annual accumulation rates were 17% higher in sandy loam soil than loam soil. The more compost application rates and times, the higher base saturation percentage increased in upland soils. Four year's application at a rate of $80Mg\;ha^{-1}$ per year increased the base saturation percentage to 87~97% compared with 45% at control plot in the loam soil. While in sandy loam soil only three year's application of same rate increased the base saturation percentage to 81~92% compared with 30.4% at control plot. The average annual increasing rate of base saturation percentage at the same application rates of composts were higher in sandy loam soil by 2.0~3.7 times than in loam soil. The application of compost increased the exchangeable Ca, Mg, and K contents of soils by 2, 2~3, and 3~5 times, respectively, compared with the control. The contents of exchangeable cations were high in surface soil, and decreased with increase of soil depths. In the case of heavy metal content, there were no difference at the application of PMC and CMC but Ni, Fe, Zn, Cu was increased a little when the HES applied, and Ni and Cr was increased application with FISC.
Medical tour can be said to be a new high added-value tour industry of 21st century. The development of varied and distinguished medical tour products by each country will further vitalize the medical tour industry. As the interest in such medical tour increases, it is necessary to analyze the demand and interests of tourists accurately and prepare medical tour products to be provided in order to develop and promote medical tour products. The government considers the medical tour industry as an industry with high expected effects in job creation through promotion of experts in global healthcare industry and national economy development through high added-value creation, and has expanded aid policies in medical tour field with improvement of medical tour immigration system, one-stop service system for medical tourists, and medical tour labor force promotion system. Nevertheless, there are disputes between foreign patients and medical tour inviting businesses, along with medical accident disputes between foreign patients and medical staff and disputes with those working in the tourism industry. This article reviews the types of disputes occurring around the inviting businesses related to medical tours and tried to review the resolutions. Through this, it was found that medical tour inviting businesses have the responsibility to connect the mediated benefits and risks and also the responsibility to process the tasks. Thus, in case dispute occurs due to passive actions from establishing agency agreement to active mediation results, it is difficult to escape the liabilities. Also, in a medical tour agency contract, the inviting business must be aware that it bears the responsibility to explain and advise the details on benefits and risks to foreign patients. The "Guide to arbitration system for resolution of medical disputes with foreign patients" by Korea Health Industry Development Institute Act presents a method to resolve disputes according to the [laws on medical accident damage relief and medical dispute arbitration] in case a dispute due to medical accidents occurs to foreign patients when the foreign patients prepare diagnosis agreement, Whether such method is sufficient to protect foreign patients, however, is thought to require discussions from more diverse perspectives. In order to vitalize medical tourism, the development of diverse products is also important, but the countermeasures against related disputes should also be prepared. Such is expected to contribute to a greater advancement based on trust of foreign medical tourists alongside excellent medical technologies.

Background and Purpose : Standardized uptake value(SUV) has been used as a quantitative index for differentiating benign and malignant tumors with F-18-FDG PET In this study, we produced whole body parametric images of SUV(WBPIS) by body weight normalization, and validated the values by comparison with SUV's calculated with regional scans. Subjects and Methods : Whole body scans were followed by regional scans sequentially on 23 patients. In whole body study, transmission and emission scans were acquired for 2 minutes and 6 minutes for each bed position, respectively. In regional study, transmission and emission scans were acquired for 20 minutes. Measured and segmented/ smoothed attenuation correction were applied using these 2 min transmission scans in whole body studies. The effects of attenuation correction on SUVs were evaluated quantitatively using F-18 filled cylindrical phantom. The mean and peak SUVs obtained from WBPIS were compared with SUVs of the regional scans. Results : In phantom studies, with any method of attenuation correction using regional or whole body studies of phantom, SUVs were nearly consistent. In whole body scan, SUV obtained using measured attenuation correction method was a little higher than SUV of regional scan. SUV obtained using segmented/smoothed attenuation correction method was a little lower. In patient studies, WBPIS using segmented/smoothed attenuation correction method was much smoother and more readable. SUVs of WBPIS obtained with both methods of attenuation correction were well correlated with SUVs of regional scans(r=0.9). SUVs of WBPIS with measured attenuation correction method were 5% lower than SUVs of regional scans. SUVs of WBPIS with segmented/smoothed attenuation correction method were 10% lower than SUVs of regional scans. The differences of SUVs of WBPIS by the two attenuation correction methods were relatively small compared with the possible differences derived from biological characteristics of tumors. Conclusion : We concluded that WBPIS could be useful in the quantification of tumor as well as in localization of whole body lesions, which were often outside the field of view in regional scan. WBPIS made using segmented/smoothed attenuation correction method could be used in clinical routines and SUVs from attenuation corrected F-18-FDG PET could be used interchangeably with SUVs of regional studies.
This study was carried out to determine the effect of application seasons and rates with animal liquid slurry on the rice yield and quality. The treatments were application seasons (autumn, spring) and application rates of animal liquid slurry 80, 100, 120, 140% N levels of based on 11kg N/10a, chemical fertilizer as control plot. Field experiment was conducted at Cheorwon, Gangwon-Do in 2007. The results was as follows; The plant height and tiller's number at the application of spring season were higher than that at the autumn application. In the plot of 140% level at the spring application, the plant height and tillers were higher, and the color of leaf was darker than that of the chemical fertilizer. The plot of 140% level in spring application was increased the lodging damage of rice. Rice yield was reduced at 7%, 13% in the plot of 120%, 140 N/10a slurry level in the spring application compared to the chemical fertilizer, respectively. But rice yield at the autumn application was not significantly difference between chemical fertilizer and plots of liquid manure. The rice quality of the 120 and 140% slurry in spring application was significantly lower than that of chemical fertilizer. Total nitrogen contents and nitrogen uptake in rice plant were higher at the plot of 120, 140%N in the spring than that of chemical fertilizer. To reduce the lodging damage and increase the yield and quality of rice was needed suitable application of liquid manure In spring season.
The highland area remained bare for the winter and spring seasons and this condition has resulted in soil erosion. In this areas, crop rotation by legume has not been commonly practiced. Thus, this study was carried out to evaluate the effects of the growth characteristics and nitrogen yield as a green manure crop according to sowing seasons of hairy vetch and woolly pod vetch. In this experiment, we was investigated the growth characteristics, winter tolerance, soil coverage and productivities of hairy vetch and woolly pod vetch. We cultivated two hairy vetch(Madison, H1) and two woolly pod vetch(Naomi, Haymaker) varieties in the highland area from 2006 to 2007. The result are summarized as follows; The plant height of hairy vetch increased with the progress of growth stage until flowering stage. The wintering rate of hairy vetch was $79{\sim}83%$ in highland area. But, the wintering rate of woolly pod vetch was $29.5{\sim}39.2%$. The 100% soil coverage of hairy vetch was reached between end of May and beginning of June under autumn sowing, and between end of June and beginning of July under spring sowing. The weeds density of hairy vetch field under autumn sowing was lower than that under spring sowing. Dry matter yield of hairy vetch was significantly higher than that of woolly pod vetch under autumn sowing. The dry matter yield of hairy vetch and woolly pod vetch were $5,255{\sim}5,405kg/ha$ and $3,520{\sim}3,640kg/ha$, respectively. But, hairy vetch in spring sowing was not significantly higher fresh matter yield than that of woolly pod vetch. The nitrogen content in hairy vetch and woolly pod vetch was $2.98{\sim}3.08$ and $2.74{\sim}3.21%$, respectively. There were no significant difference in nitrogen content of the hairy vetch and woolly pod vetch under the spring sowing. N-uptake of hairy vetch was significantly higher than that of woolly pod vetch in autumn sowing. The N uptake was $156{\sim}164\;kg/ha$ in hairy vetch and $96{\sim}101\;kg/ha$ in woolly pod vetch under autumn sowing. It was thought that hairy vetch was better than woolly pod vetch as a green manure crop in autumn sowing considering wintering rate and yield of dry matter in highland area. And woolly pod vetch could use as a green manure crop under spring sowing in highland area.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of application of composted cattle manure (CCM) on the productivity of the whole crop rice (WCR) and Italian ryegrass (IRG) on both Sancheong and Asan area from 2005 to 2008. Application levels of CCM such as chemical fertilizer (CF), CCM 150% and CCM 200% were tested in paddy field. Amount of CCM was adjusted equal to total nitrogen value relative to its value of CF. Mean dry matter yield (DMY) of WCR and IRG increased in order; CCM 200% > CF > CCM 150% in Asan and there was no significant difference between CCM 200% and CF. In Sancheong, DMYs of WCR and IRG significantly decreased (p<0.05) in order CF > CCM 200% > CCM 150%. The plant length and number of tiller of WCR were not different among treatments, however the percentage of ripeness of WCR was higher (p<0.05) in CF compared to CCM 150% and CCM 200%. Also, there were no differences in NDF and ADF contents, however CP content was higher (p<0.05) in CF treatment compared to CCM 150% and CCM 200%. Based on the results of this experiment, IRG-WCR double cropping system with application of CCM may be effective in producing the forage resources of 18~20 tons every year with eco-friendly way.
Comprehensive studies on seedling production and transplanting cultivation of waxy corn are necessary to fulfill the comsumer's preference for the high quality whole ear waxy corn and its year-round supply for higher price, and to escape marketing in a short period at harvest season. Two waxy corn hybrids (cv. Chalok# 1 and Chalok# 4) were used to study the effects of seeding date, nursery days and plug cell size on growth and yield of waxy corn, and to clarify the reliable transplanting date at the Experimental Field of the National Institute of Crop Science in 2007. The number of days from seeding to silking was increased as nursery days were extended, but the number of days from transplanting to silking was shortened comparing to the direct seeding. Number of days from seeding to silking was shorter by 9~12 days for Chalok# 1 than for Chalok# 4, while the number of days from seeding to silking was shorter by 12~15 days in the second cropping than in the first cropping. Culm length of transplanted waxy corns was decreased as the nursery days were extended. Culm length of seeded Chaok# 1 and Chaok# 4 were decreased by 17% and 24%, respectively, in the second cropping compared to those in the first cropping. Ear length was somewhat decreased as the nursery days were extended. Chalok# 1 in the second cropping the degree of decrease was much higher in second cropping than in first cropping of Chalok# 1. Comparing to the first cropping, number of marketable ears per 10a of Chalok# 1 decreased as high as 64%, while that of seeded Chalok# 4 decreased mere 12% in the second cropping.
