This study was conducted to find out suitable rootzone profile, irrigation system, and turfgrass species for roof turf garden. Treatments of profile with soil amendment were Mixture I: Perlite(PL)60%+Vermiculite(VC)20%+Peatmoss(PM)20%, Mixture II: PL60%+VC 10%+PM20%+Sand(SD)10%, Mixture III: PL60%+VC20%+PM20% and Mixture IV: PL60%+VC10%+PM20%+SD10%+Styrofoam 5cm as a drain layer. To test trickle irrigation for roof garden, intervals of main pipe spacing(50cm, 100cm) and drop hole distance(15, 20, 30, 50 and 100cm)were treated, To select most suitable turfgrass species or mixture, Bermudagrass 'Konwoo', Zoysiagrass 'Konhee' and cool-season grass(Kentucky Bluegrass 80% + Perennial Ryegrass 20%, Tall Fescue 30% + KB50% + PR 20%)were tested. In particle size analysis, the soil amendments Perlite and vermiculite showed very even distribution, however, peatmoss contained mostly coarse particles with fiber over $\Phi$ 4.75mm. Under field moisture condition, vermiculite and peatmoss showed 350% water holding capacity, on the other hand, sand or Perlite showed 115% and 166%, respectively. Total weight of soil profile was 139.2kg/$m^2$ with Styrofoam drain layer without sand, which showed most lightest among treatments. Turf quality also resulted positve with Styrofoam drain layer installation. On trickle irrigation system, the proper interval of main drain pipe spacing and drop hole distance were 50cm and 50cm, respectively, In irrigation frequency, once per a day for 15 minute irrigation with 2 1/hr showed the best results on turf quality. Among turfgrass species or cool season grass mixture, warm season turfgrass fine leaf type zoysiagrass 'Konhee' and Bermudagrass 'Konwoo' showed very acceptable result on all over the treatments of rootzone and irrigation system. To apply cool season grasses for the roof garden, advanced researches may be needed to establish the proper soil amendment, rootzone profile, and irrigation system, Application of Bermudagrass 'Konwoo' for roof turf garden also needs successive tests to overcome winter injuries.
The severe damage of cultural heritages induced by natural hazards like heavy rain has been dramatically increased since 1990. The number of the repair works of stone heritage of 2005 was six times as many as those of 1986 year. Especially the ratio of the repair works of Gyeongsang Province and Jeolla Province stood 63% of those of all over the country. Since 1990, the typhoons usually struck the southern part of Korea and went northward. The heavy damage of stone heritages in two provinces was caused by them. We made a preliminary survey the stone heritages that exposed to the natural hazards on the basis of repair works of them and a field survey. The analysis results indicate that the natural hazards such as landslide and soil disaster of the stone heritages related to a sloping surface stood 58% of all kind of natural hazards. The reasons are caused by the 59 % of all the stone heritages distributed in a sloping surface resulted in natural hazards like landslide and soil disaster. The bases of stone heritages can be easily eroded by the surface water with high energy induced by heavy rainfall. Most of the stone heritages like Maebul were engraved on a natural rock wall(outcrop). But some of them engraved on rolling stones are very vulnerable in a change of a base condition caused by erosion and ground subsidence and they can be tilted or fell down. The distribution of the stone heritages vulnerable in natural hazard is related to that of the rainfall distribution compounded five typhoons after 1990. Most of them are included in level two on the rainfall distribution map except those of Taean peninsula and some of Gyeonggi Province. They seem to be rather related to the rainfall distribution of the Typhoon Olga.

In this study, the production potential of alternative coagulant ($Al_2(SO_4)_3$ solution) having the identical coagulation activity with respect to the commercial coagulant was investigated. The raw material of alternative coagulant was a spent catalyst including aluminium (waste activated alumina) generated in the manufacturing process of the polymer. The alternative coagulant was produced through a series of processes: 1) intense heat and grinding, 2) chemical polymerization and substitution with $H_2SO_4$ solution, 3) dissolution and dilution and 4) settling and separation. To determine the optimal operating conditions in the lab-scale autoclave and dissolver, the content of $Al_2O_3$ in alternative coagulant was analyzed according to changes of the purity of sulfuric acid, reaction temperature, injection ratio of sulfuric acid and water in the dissolver. The results showed that the alternative coagulant having the $Al_2O_3$ content of 7~8% was produced under the optimal conditions such as $H_2SO_4$ purity of 50%, reaction temperature of $120^{\circ}C$, injection ratio of $H_2SO_4$ of 5 times and injection ratio of water of 2.3 times in dissolver. In order to evaluate the coagulation activity of the alternative coagulant, the Jar-test was conducted to the effluent in aerobic reactor. As a result, in both cases of Al/P mole of 1.5 and 2.0, the coagulation activity of the alternative coagulant was higher than that of the existing commercial coagulant. When the production costs were compared between the alternative and commercial coagulant through economic analysis, the production cost reduction of about 50% was available in the case of the alternative coagulant. In addition, it was identified that the alternative coagulant could be applied at field wastewater treatment plant without environmental problem through ecological toxicity testing.

Purpose : The comatose mentality can be catastrophic, especially if the condition is severe or the duration is prolonged. Therefore, delayed diagnosis can result in a poor outcome or death. The best radiologic modality to differentiate from cerebral lesions in patients suffering from cerebral diseases is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) rather than computed tomography (CT). Special apparatuses with metal materials such as ventilators, and cardiac pacemakers belonging to patients cannot be located in the magnetic field. We aimed to exhibit the possibility of examining MRI, maintaining ventilation at a relative long distance by means of modified $Ambu^{(R)}$. Methods : Self-inflating bags as a sort of a manual ventilator, connected with relatively long extension tubes instead of mechanical ventilators, were adopted to obtain MRI. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) extension tubes had different lengths and diameters. Lengths were 1, 2, and 3 cm and diameters were 15, and 25 mm. The work of breathing and expiratory changes of expiratory tidal volume (TVe), minute volume of expiration (MVe), peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) were measured by use of the mechanical ventilator, $Servoi^{(R)}$, as the alteration of TVi (inspiratory tidal volume), extension tube lengths and diameters with other values fixed. Results : Measured TVe and MVe by ventilator were the same values with control at every TVi, regardless of extension tube lengths and diameters, but PIP were increased with the rise of TVi, tube lengths, with decline of tube diameters, these were statistically significant. Conclusion : MRI examination can be carried out with a self-inflating bag connected with an extension tube at a long distance in patients who need artificial ventilation.
This study was conducted to investigate the important weeds occurring in onion and garlic planted in paddy field as the succeeding crop of rice and to evaluate the effect of competition between these crops and weeds on the yield of onion and garlic. In terms of quantity occurred, Persicaria hydropiper, Chenopodium ficifolium, Alopecurus aequalis, Poligonum aviculare, Echinochloa crus-galli, and Bothrisospermum tenellum appeared to be the major weeds in onion and garlic fields. Annual broadleaves were composed of 90.0 and 94.3% of total weed dry weight in onion and in garlic fields, respectively. Among these weeds, P. hydropiper was the most dominant species in onion and C. ficifolium in garlic fields. The higher Simpson's index such as 0.67 in garlic as compared to 0.40 in onion can be attributed to the presence of a C. ficifolium, which is existed in a single dominant species. The full season competition between the crops and these weeds resulted in yield reduction of onion by 23.9% and garlic by 31.9%, showing weed dry weight, 448.18 and 418.40 g/$m^2$ in onion and garlic fields, respectively. The maintenance of weed free condition for about 4 weeks after weed emergence could be the prerequisite to obtain the maximum yield of these two crops.

The silica uptake of rice plant(Oryza sativa L.) and a potential capacity of paddy soil as a source of silica supply for rice plant was studied under field experimental condition. Amount of Si from irrigation water, rainfall, which was a source of silica supply, and percolating rate of water through paddy soil profile as a source of silica loss from paddy soil, was investigated. Rice plants were grown in three different conditions, which included Control as non-fertilized, RDA's recommandation(NPK, Urea-Fused phophate-Potassium chloride=$110-45-57kg\;ha^{-1}$) and RDA's recommandation with supplement of silicate fertilizer(NPK+Si, Urea-Fused phosphate-Potassium chloride+Si=$110\;N-45\;P_2O_5-57\;K_2O+267.2\;Si\;kg\;ha^{-1}$). An amount of silica supply from rainfall was $0.5kg\;ha^{-1}$ and average amount of silica supplied from irrigation water $42.5kg\;ha^{-1}$, ranging from $28.1kg\;ha^{-1}$ to $58.8kg\;ha^{-1}$. Silica amount percolated through the soil profile have uniform trend comparatively showing $62.9kg\;ha^{-1}$ in Control, $64.8kg\;ha^{-1}$ in NPK treatment and $62.9kg\;ha^{-1}$ in NPK+Si treatment. Silica uptaked by Rice plant was $335.6kg\;ha^{-1}$ in Control, $406.6kg\;ha^{-1}$ in NPK+Si treatment and $471.1kg\;ha^{-1}$ in NPK+Si treatment. The difference between an amount of Si input(from rainfall, irrigation water and silicate fertilizer) and an amount of Si output(percolated Si in soil, uptaked Si by rice plant) was $357.4kg\;ha^{-1}$ in control, $412.1kg\;ha^{-1}$ in NPK treatment and $238.2kg\;ha^{-1}$ in NPK+Si treatment. Results of our study imply that paddy soil is a potential pool as a source of Si supply during growing periods of rice plant.
Nitrogen releasing characteristics of polymer-coated urea(PCU) that made acrylic synthetic resins were studied in incubated soil, water and paddy soil. Also, their correlations and degradation patterns of coating material were tested. Releasing rate of nitrogen from PCU decreased with increasing coating rate. N001(coating rate 8.5%) and N003(coasting rater 6.3%) were low releasing amount at the early stage, whereas N005(coating rate 4.8%) was released over 80% within 20 days. Relationship of the releasing rate between incubated soil($25^{\circ}C$) and paddy soil could be described as follows : $Y=-0.0011X^2+2.2931X-50.264(R^2=0.9884)$ for N001, $Y=-0.0016X^2+1.1587X+5.5064(R^2=0.9805)$ for N003 and $Y=-0.03X^2+6.499X-243.22(R^2=0.9422)$ for N005, respectively (Y: release rate at field condition, X: experiment period). Relationship of the releasing rate between incubated water($30^{\circ}C$) and paddy soil can be described as follows : $Y=0.0011X^2+2.2601X-25.329(R^2=0.9884)$ for N001, $Y=-0.0306X^2+4.4994X-76.307(R^2=0.955)$ for N003 and $Y=-0.0164X^2+3.7764X-108.22(R^2=0.9422)$ for N005. After 150 days, coating materials of N001, N003, and N005 in incubated soil were degraded approximately 23%, 22% and 15%, respectively. Also The scanning electron microscope examination of coating material revealed that particle surface became gradually shattered with the time after the soil treatment.
Determining the actual evapotranspiration(ETa) of a crop, and appropriate water management of the crop based on the ETa are very important For increasing the yield. The present study aimed at determining ETa and crop coefficient of sesame growing under different climatic conditions with the transparent thin polyethylene film mulch(0.03 mm thick) and without this mulch. Bottomless cylindrical lysimeters(105cm in diameter, 120cm in height, protruded 20 cm above the soil surface) were installed on the field of sandy loam "Bonyang series" soil with a moderate drainage. The determination of ETa was performed by measuring each component of a model equation, $ETa=(R+I)-\{Ro+(D1+D2)\}+C{\pm}{\Delta}S$. Sesame, cv. "Ansan" was sown in two rows with the spacing of $50{\times}15cm$ on May 10 in 1991 and 1992. The mulching covers 80% of the soil surface. Sesame consumed the water of 139.0 mm(1.53 mm/day) and 171.2 mm(1.59 mm/day) in ETa without the film mulch, but that of 132.6 mm(1.46 mm/day) and 199.8 mm(1.85 mm/day) with its mulching through both years of 1991 and 1992, respectively. The ETa's accounted for 52 and 69% of the potential evapotranspiration(ETp) in the mulched crop, and 54 and 59% of ETp in the non-mulched crop 1991 through 1992, respectively. Its ETa's were much more and their gap between the mulching and non-mulching treatment was larger in 1992 than in 1991 as a result of the better climatic condition of 1992.
Purpose : To conduct nationwide surgery on the principles In radiotherapy for rectal center, and develop the framework of a database of Korean Patterns of Care Study. Materials and Methods : A consensus committee was established to develop a tool for measuring the Patterns in radiotherapy Protocols for rectal cancer. The Panel was composed of radiation oncologists from 18 hospitals in Seoul Wetropolltan area. The committee developed a survey format to analyze radiation oncologist's treatment principles for rectal cancer. The survey items developed for measuring the treatment principles were composed of 1) 8 eliglblllty criteria, 2) 20 Items for staging work-ups and prognostic factors, 3) 7 Items for principles of combined surgery and chemotherapy, 4) 9 patient set-ups, 5) 19 determining radiation fields, 6) S radiotherapy treatment pians, 7) 4 physicalilaboratory examination to monitor a patient's condition during treatment, and 8) 10 follow-up evaluations. These items were sent to radiation oncoioglsts In charge of gastrolntestlnal malignancies in all hospitals (48 hospitals) In Korea to which 30 replies were received (63$\%$). Results : Most of the surrey Items were replied to without no major between the repliers, but with the fellowing items only 50$\%$ of repliers were in agreement : 1) Indications of preoperative radiation, 2) use of endorectal ultrasound, CT scan, and bone scan for staging work-ups, 3) principles of combining chemotherapy with radiotherapy, 4) use of contrast material for small bowel delineation during simulation, 5) determination of field margins, and 6) use of CEA and colonoscopy for follow-up evaluations. Conclusions : The Items where considerable disaggrement was shown among the radiation oncologists seemed to make no serious difference In the treatment outcome, but a practical and reasonable consensus should be reached by the committee, with logical processes of agreement. These Items can be used for a basic database for the Patterns of Care Study, which will survey the practical radiotherapy Patterns for rectal cancer in Korea.
