Nonlinear Microwave Performance of an Optoelectronic CPW-to-Slotline Ring Resonator on GaAs Substrate

  • A nonlinear optical-microwave interaction is carried out in an uniplanar CPW-to-Slotline ring resonator on the semi-insulating GaAs substrate, in which a Schottky photodetector is monolithically integrated as a coupling gap. When the capacitive reactance of the detetor is modulated, the parametric amplification effect of the mixer occurs. In this device structure, the parametric amplification gain of 20 dB without the applied bias in RF signal is obtained. This microwave optoelectronic mixer can be used in the fiber-optic communication link.

  • In recent the maximum voltage of overhead power transmission lines in Korea was upgraded to 765kV. In general a overhead ground wire is installed for protecting overhead power transmission lines from lightning. For the 765kV line, Composite Overhead Ground Wire with Optic Fiber (OPGW) is applied as a overhead ground wire and have a function of the communication line between substations. In this paper, the construction and properties of OPGW, and its installation methods are discribed.

  • The purpose of this work is to introduce the Remote Control System for KSR-III Liquid Rocket Propulsion System. We developed the high reliable Fire control System that needed for long distance control. We carried out a real time remote control and measuring for KSR-III lust Liquid Propulsion Rocket in Korea using TCP/IP Ethernet network method and Fiber-optic communication method. Also HMI operation program developed guarantee confidential control, monitoring and analysis for Fire control operation.

  • Compared with other transport means, safety and timeliness are the merits of railways. Unexpectedly when accident happens, much time and human strength are required to cope with the accident. And for swift recovery, systematic rehabilitation is needed. Recently using MTS(Moving picture Transmission System), we can perform accident rehabilitation and recording work efficiently. MTS is the device that transmits continuous picture information from accident field to control center. We are developing the appropriate system to railway situation to make use of the existing information communication technology, processing technology of video-tex, super high speed transmission technology through fiber-optic, copper cable and network description of information Technology, etc. If these communication-based can technologies are applied to railway system, railway managers can control the accident by inspecting the picture of accident field and can contribute to the safe train operation and the improvement of railway management. In this paper, we investigate the connecting methods when optical fiber is used for moving picture data transmission of train accidents, and its problems. And, we validate MTS's performance through about 28km section of field test.

  • Optical fiber Bragg grating to have the lowest transmitivity at 1549.9nm wavelength was fabricated using a Gaussian distributed KrF Eximer laser of 248nm lasing wavelength and a phase mask of 1.072um period. The proper alignment of an optic setup to fabricate fiber gratings was investigated and the reproductivity of the grating fabrication was examined using the obtained optimum fabrication condition in this experiment.

All-optical Signal Processing of Fiber Impairments in Dual-Polarization 112 Gbit/s m-ary QAM Coherent Transmission

  • We have numerically implemented a receiver side all-optical signal processing method, i.e. optical backward propagation (OBP), by dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) and non-linear compensator (NLC) devised by effective negative Kerr non-linear coefficient using two highly non-linear fibers (HNLFs). The method is implemented for the post-processing of fiber transmission impairments, i.e. chromatic dispersion (CD) and non-linearities (NL). The OBP module is evaluated for dual-polarization (DP) m-ary (m=4,16,32,64,256) quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) in 112 Gbit/s coherent transmission over 1200 km standard single mode fiber (SMF). We have also investigated an intensity limited optical backward propagation module (IL-OBP) by using a self-phase modulation-based optical limiter with an appropriate pre-chirping to compensate for the intensity fluctuations in the transmission link. Our results show that in highly non-linear sensitive 256QAM transmission, we have observed a 66% increase in the transmission distance by implementing IL-OBP as compared to conventional OBP.
