In this work, the effect of fiber array direction including $0^{\circ}$, $0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}$, $0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}$ was investigated for mechanical properties of basalt fiber-reinforced composites. Mechanical properties of the composites were studied using interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) measurements. The cross-section morphologies of basalt fiber-reinforced epoxy composites were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Also, the surface properties of basalt fibers were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). From the results, it was observed that acid treated basalt fiber-reinforced composites showed significantly higher mechanical interfacial properties than those of untreated basalt fiber-reinforced composites. These results indicated that the hydroxyl functional groups of basalt fibers lead to the improvement of the mechanical interfacial properties of basalt fibers/epoxy composites in the all array direction.

The research reported here is concerned with the effects of the fiber combination condition and water/cement ratio on the mechanical properties of high performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites(HPFRCC). An experimental investigation of the behavior of steel cords(SC) and SC and Polyethylene(PE) hybrid fiber reinforced cementitious material under compressive and tensile loading is presented. In this experimental research, the tensile and compressive strength and strain capacity of HPFRCC were selected using the cylindrical specimens. The results show that W/C ratio is a significant effect factor on the compressive and tensile performance of HPFRCC. The envelope curve concept applies to hybrid fiber-reinforced cementitious composites in tension just as it does to compressive stress-strain curve of fiber-reinforced cement composites. For practical purposes, the tensile envelope curve may be taken to be the same as the monotonic tensile stress-strain curve.

The purpose of this study was to improved the durability of a improved movable weir by replacing the improved movable weir's metal gate with a hybrid steel/glass fiber reinforced polymer composites panel gate. Because the metal gate of a improved movable weir is always in contact with water, its service life is shortened by corrosion. This study made four type of hybrid steel/glass fiber reinforced polymer composites panel gate with different steel gate surface deformation (control, sand blast, scratch and hole), flexural. Fracture properties tests were performed depending on the steel gate surface deformation. According to the test results, the flexural behavior, flexural strength and fracture properties of hybrid steel/glass fiber reinforced polymer composites panel gate was affected by the steel panel gate surface deformation. Also, the sand blast type hybrid steel/glass fiber reinforced polymer composites panel gate shows vastly superior flexural and fracture performance compared to other types.

The results of an experimental study on the manufacture and the mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced silica fume.cement composites and light weight fly ash.cement composites are presented in this paper. The CF reinforced silica fume.cement composites using silica fume early strength cement were prepared with Pan-derived or Pitch-derived CF, and Lt. Wt, fly ash.cement composites using fly ash, early strength cement, perlite and a small amount of foaming agent. As the test results show, the flexural strength, toughness and ductility of CF reinforced silica fume .cement composites were remarkably increased by fiber contents. Also, the manufacturing process technology of Lt. Wt. fly ash.cement composites was developed and its optimum mix proportions were proposed. And the compressive and flexural strength of the fly ash.cement composites by hot water cured were improved even more than by moist cured, but are decreased by increasing fly ash replaced ratio for cement.
Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites not only approach almost near to the strength of thermosetting composite but also has excellent productivity, recycling property, and impact resistance, which are pointed as weaknesses of thermosetting composites. The study for strength calculation of one direction fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites and the study measuring precisely fiber orientation distribution were presented. Need the systematic study for the data base that can predict mechanical properties of composite material and fiber orientation distribution by the fiber content ratio was not constructed. Therefore, this study was investigated what affect the fiber content ratio and fiber orientation distribution have on the strength of composites. Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites by changing fiber orientation distribution and the fiber content ratio were made. Tensile strength ratio of $0^{\circ}$ direction of fiber-reinforced composites increased being proportional the fiber content and fiber orientation function as change from isotropy(J=0) to anisotropy(J=1). But, tensile strength ratio of $90^{\circ}$ direction by separation of fiber filament decreased when tensile load is imposed fur width direction of reinforcement fiber length direction.

The results of an experimental study on the manufacture and the mechanical properties of fiber reinforced calcium silicates-cement composites utilizing by products (fly ash or cement sludge) for construction materials are presented in this paper. As the test results show, compressive, tensile, and flexural strength, fracture toughness of fiber reinforced calcium silicates-cement composites were improved by increasing the fly ash and fiber contents, but were decreased by increasing cement sludge contents. Somehat, especially increasing fiber contents the fracture toughness of the composites were remarkably increased. Also, the mechanical properties of the composites reinforcing alkali-resistance GF were higher than those of the composites reinforcing Samoa Pulp.
Design of microwave absorbers using high frequency properties of fiber reinforced composites are investigated. Two kinds of composite materials (glass and carbon) are used and their complex permittivity and permeability are measured by transmission/reflection technique using network analyzer. Low dielectric constant and nearly zero dielectric loss are determined in glass fiber composite. However, carbon fiber composites show the high dielectric constant and large conduction loss which is increased with anisotropy of fiber arrangement. It is, therefore, proposed that the glass and carbon fiber composites can be used as the impedance transformer (surface layer) and microwave reflector, respectively. By inserting the foam core or honeycomb core (which can be treated as an air layer) between glass and carbon fiber composites, microwave absorption above 10 dB (90% absorbance) in 4-12 GHz can be obtained. The proposed fiber composites laminates with sandwitch structure have high potential as lightweight and high strength microwave absorbers.
In this study, the physical and mechanical properties of bamboo fiber reinforced epoxy composites were studied. Composites were fabricated using short bamboo fiber at four different fiber loading (0 wt%, 15 wt%, 30 wt% and 45 wt%). It has been observed that few properties increases significantly with respect to fiber loading, however properties like void fraction increases from 1.71% to 5.69% with the increase in fiber loading. Hence, in order to reduce the void fraction, improve hardness and other mechanical properties silicon carbide (SiC) filler is added in bamboo fiber reinforced epoxy composites at four different weight percentages (0 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt% and 15 wt%) by keeping fiber loading constant (45 wt%). The significant improvement of hardness (from 46 to 57 Hv) at 15 wt%SiC, tensile strength (from 10.48 to 13.44 MPa) at 10 wt% SiC, flexural strength (from 19.93 to 29.53 MPa) at 5 wt%SiC and reduction of void fraction (from 5.69 to 3.91%) at 5 wt%SiC is observed. The results of this study indicate that using particulate filled bamboo fiber reinforced epoxy composites could successfully develop a composite material in terms of high strength and rigidity for light weight applications compared to conventional bamboo composites. Finally, SEM studies were carried out to evaluate fibre/matrix interactions.

Results of an experimental study on the manufacture, the workability and mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced polyester resin composites utilizing industrial waste products are presented in this paper. The fly ash polyester resin composites using steel fiber, fly ash and calcium carbonic acid (CaCo3), unsaturated polyester resin, styrene monomer, cobalt octate and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, fine and coarse aggregates are prepared with various filler~binder rations, binder rates and mixing conditions. As a test results, the workability of steel fiber reinforced polyester resin composites are considerably dropped with increasing fly ash-binder ratio and steel fiber volume. And compressive, flexural strength and bending toughness of the composites are remarkably improved with augmenting fiber contents.
To improve the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites, laminated composites plates were fabricated using different matrix resins and glass or aramid fibers. The effect of matrix resin system were evaluated by tensile, flexural strength measurements. In the case of surface treated aramid fiber and unsaturated polyester resin composite, maximum flexural properties were observed in the composite prepared from the glass fiber treated with 0.5 wt% silane coupling agents. Vinylester resin composites show the highest tensile properties and isophthalic polyester composites have the highest flexural properties among the unsaturated polyester resin composites studied. The relationship between overlap laminated composites plates and mechanical properties of polymer composites is also investigated in order to improve mechanical properties of glass fiber and unsaturated polyester resin composites.
