Using various thermo-mechanical schedules characterized by varying reheating temperature, deformation temperature and strain, the austenite recrystallization and ferrite refinement of a Nb bearing low carbon steel(0.15C-0.25Si-1.11Mn-0.04Nb) were investigated. For single pass heavy deformations at $800^{\circ}C$, the 40% deformed austenite was not recrystallized while the 80% deformed one was fully recrystallized. Ferrite grains formed in the 80% deformed specimen was not very small compared with those in the 40% deformed specimen, which implied the recrystallized austenite was not more beneficial to ferrite refinement than the non-recrystallized one. In case of deformation in low temperature austenite region, a multi-pass deformation made finer ferrites than a single-pass deformation, as the total reduction was the same, due to more ferrite nucleation sites in the non-recrystallization of austenite for multi-pass deformation. When specimen was deformed at $775^{\circ}C$ that was $10^{\circ}C$ higher than $Ar_3$, the ferrite of about $1{\mu}m$ was formed through deformation induced ferrite transformation(DIFT), and the amount of ferrite was increased with increasing reduction. Dislocation density was very high and no carbides were observed in DIFT ferrites, presumably due to supersaturated carbon solution. By deformation in two phase(50% austenite+50% ferrite) region the very refined ferrite grains of less than $1{\mu}m$ were formed certainly by recovery and recrystallization of deformed ferrites and, a large portion of ferrites were divided by subgrain boundaries with misorientation angles smaller than 10 degrees.
This study examines the effect of microstructural factors on the strength and deformability of ferrite-pearlite steels. Six kinds of ferrite-pearlite steel specimens are fabricated with the addition of different amounst of Mn and V and with varying the isothermal transformation temperature. The Mn steel specimen with a highest Mn content has the highest pearlite volume fraction because Mn addition inhibits the formation of ferrite. The V steel specimen with a highest V content has the finest ferrite grain size and lowest pearlite volume fraction because a large amount of ferrite forms in fine austenite grain boundaries that are generated by the pinning effect of many VC precipitates. On the other hand, the room-temperature tensile test results show that the V steel specimen has a longer yield point elongation than other specimens due to the highest ferrite volume fraction. The V specimen has the highest yield strength because of a larger amount of VC precipitates and grain refinement strengthening, while the Mn specimen has the highest tensile strength because the highest pearlite volume fraction largely enhances work hardening. Furthermore, the tensile strength increases with a higher transformation temperature because increasing the precipitate fraction with a higher transformation temperature improves work hardening. The results reveal that an increasing transformation temperature decreases the yield ratio. Meanwhile, the yield ratio decreases with an increasing ferrite grain size because ferrite grain size refinement largely increases the yield strength. However, the uniform elongation shows no significant changes of the microstructural factors.
Effects of ZnO, PbO and SiO2 on the grain growth and magnetic properties of Sr-ferrite were investigated. (1) Addition of ZnO to Sr-ferrite increased remanence, but decreased coercivity and maximum energy product. (2) Addition of PbO up to 0.5 wt% increased (B$.$H)max of Sr-ferrite, but addition more than 0.5 wt% decreased (B$.$H)mzx (3) SiO2 addition to the 0.5 wt% PbO doped Sr-ferrite decreased remanence and increased coercivity. The coercivity increase in due to the grain refinement effect of SiO2. But addition of SiO2 more than 0.5 wt% invoked a decrease of coercivity and (B$.$H)max of Sr-ferrite due to abnormal grain growth. Sr-ferrite magnet having maximum energy product of 3.7MGOe was fabricated by using the roasting product of Pyrrhotite.
Recent development of ultrafine grained (UFG) low carbon steels by using equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and their room temperature tensile properties are reviewed, focusing on the strategies overcoming their inherent mechanical drawbacks. In addition to ferrite grain refinement, when proper post heat treatments are imposed, carbon atom dissolution from pearlitic cementite during ECAP can be utilized for microstructural modification such as uniform distribution of nano-sized cementite particles or microalloying element carbides inside UFG ferrite grains and fabrication of UFG ferrite/martensite dual phase steel. The utilization of nano-sized particles is effective on improving thermal stability of UFG low carbon ferrite/pearlite steel but less effective on improving its tensile properties. By contrast, UFG ferrite/martensite dual phase steel exhibits an excellent combination of ultrahigh strength, large uniform elongation and extensive strain hardenability.

Grain refinement of the structural steels was selected as the most effective method to meet improvement of strength and toughness without heat treatment. So, the future research and developing direction of ultra fine grain steels are more and more required to response to the production of eco - materials(environmental consciousness - materials) In this paper, the product of surface fine grain steels by CRCT and Inverse Transformation Method by warm deformation of martensite is carried out in order to improve the production process of Dowel Bar. It is possible to obtain surface ultra fine grain steel, when warm deformation of martensite formed after quenching is carried out from 730$^{\circ}C$ to 800$^{\circ}C$ in the finishing rolling step. The characters of surface with ultra fine grain steel is showing the cementite particles inside the ferrite grain and fine ferrite grain of about 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in size.
The refinement of microstructure and phase transformation near the interface of pure copper/carbon steel dissimilar metals joints with various friction welding parameters have been studied in this paper. The microstructure of copper and carbon steel joints were changed to be a finer grain compared to those of the base metals due to the frictional heat and plastic deformation. The microstructure of copper side experienced wide range of deformed region from the weld interface and divided into very fine equaxied grains and elongated grains. Especially, the microstructures near the interface on carbon steel were transformed from ferrite and pearlite dual structure to fine ferrite, grain boundary pearlite and martensite due to the welding thermal cycle and rapid cooling rate after welding. These microstructures were varied with each friction welding parameters. The recrystallization on copper side is reason for softening in copper side and martensite transformation could explain the remarkable hardening region in carbon steel side.
In this study tensile and impact properties of three hypo-eutectoid steels containing different micro-alloying elements were investigated in terms of microstructural factors such as pro-eutectoid ferrite grain size, pearlite fraction, interlamellar spacing, and cementite thickness. Yield point phenomenon appeared in all the steel specimens during tensile testing, and ultimate tensile stress was mainly dependent on pearlite fraction. On the other hand, the refinement of austenite grain size caused by the addition of micro-alloying elements resulted in the increment of ferrite volume fraction and carbon contents in pearlite because of the refinement of pro-eutectoid ferrite grain size. As a result, cementite thickness in pearlite increased and had an effect on deteriorating the low temperature impact toughness.

The aim of this paper is to determine the proper heat treatment temperature for SDSS tube production without ${\sigma}$-phase precipitation. When Mother steel tube was heat treated at $800^{\circ}C$ temperature, relatively a large amount of ${\sigma}$-phase precipitated and grain refinement of ferrite phase occurred simultaneously. However, in Pilgered and Drawn steel tubes, grain refinement of the ferrite phase did not occur and a small amount of ${\sigma}$-phase precipitated. For all three types of steel tubes, the pitting potential was reduced to 2/5 or less compared with the untreated one and corrosion also occurred in the salt spray test due to the precipitation of ${\sigma}$-phase. When heat treatment temperature was $900^{\circ}C$, grain refinement of the ferrite phase occurred and very little ${\sigma}$-phase precipitated in Pilgered and Drawn steel tubes. But when heat treatment was done at $1,000^{\circ}C$ temperature, all three types of steel tubes had a similar corrosion properties of that of untreated one and also corrosion did not occur in the salt spray test, as ${\sigma}$-phase did not precipitate. Therefore, the optimum heat treatment temperature range is determined to be more than $1000^{\circ}C$ for the SDSS at which corrosion does not occur.
