A Study on Development of High Performance Microwave Absorbers in Wide-Band Type for RADAR (레이다용 광대력형 고성능 전파흡수체의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The coaxial sample holder with 20mm in diameter and the adaptor from type N connector-to-20mm${\phi}$ coaxial tube are designed and manufactured which have been used for designing and measuring the fabricated microwave absorber. In addition, the measure in method of material constants of the microwave absorbers is described, which is focused on minimizing the error due to the sample's shapes, the fitting conditions, etc. After describing the design method of a single-layed microwave absorber, the microwave absorbers for X-band, C-band and S-band RADARs are designed and fabricated, respectively, which are composed of ferrite, carborn, and binder and have good performance. Futhermore, we develop the high performance microwave absorber in extremely wide-band type for RADAR, which is composed of different material and its mixing ratio and which could cover nearly from 4 to 10 GHz.

  • The super wideband electromagnetic wave absorber in RF-A-PF type has been proposed, which can be used for an anechoic chamber, wall material to prevent TV ghost, etc, In this paper, $Ni_x-Mg_{0.1}-Zn_(1-x-0.1){\cdot}Fe_2O_4$ Ferrite Powder has been fabricated. Using this, then, [$Ni_x-Mg_{0.1}-Zn_(1-x-0.1){\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composite for RF-layer in the RF-A-PF type absorber has been fabricated and its characteristics has been analyzed. As a result, it has been shown that the $Ni_x-Mg_{0.1}-Zn_(1-x-0.1){\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composit with the quantity $_x$ of $Ni_x$ between 0.5 and 0.6 is suitable for the RF-layer in the case of which the grain size is sub-micrometer order.

The Magnetic and Microwave Absorbing Characteristics of Ni-Zn Ferrite Composites (니켈-아연 페라이트복합재의 자기적특성과 전파흡수특성)

  • The relationship between magnetic parameter and microwave absorbing performance evaluation factor of electomagnetic wave absorber such as matching frequency, matching thickness were investigated for Ni-Zn ferrite composites. It was identified that the maximum value of ${\mu}_{r}$" is shift to low frequency with decrese Ni/Zn ratio and the value of ${\mu}_{r}$" is maximum in the case of Ni/Zn=1. All Ni-Zn ferrite composites in this study have two matching frequencies in 1-12 GHz frequency. It can be suggested that $f_{m1}$ is proportional to resonance frequency and $f_{m2}$ is proportional to the saturation magnetization.

  • The U-type ferrite is a kind of hexagonal ferrite, and it is known as a microwave absorber in the X-band. The magnetic and dielectric loss of the U-type ferrite change to the composition and coating layer, etc. In this study, the silicon oxide layer was coated on the substituted U-type ferrites to improve microwave absorption characteristics. The complex permittivity and complex permeability were measured using toroidal specimens that were press-molded and the measured frequency range was set from 2-18 GHz. The improvement of the microwave absorption rate was different according to the type of the substituted U-type ferrites. Only in the substituted U-type ferrites with nickel and zinc, an improvement in the microwave absorption rate due to enhancement of magnetic loss was confirmed. The highest microwave absorption was 99.9% at 9.6 GHz, which was S_Z0.5U.

  • Generally, a silicone rubber and a chloride polyethylene(CPE) have been used for the development of high-performance composite EM(ElectroMagnetic) wave absorbers. In this study, the EM wave absorption abilities for natural lacquer which is newly suggested in this study as a binder for composite EM wave absorbers were investigated to develop an improved EM wave absorbers. In addition, MnZn ferrite composite EM wave absorbers mixed with the natural lacquer were prepared and their absorption ability was also investigated. MnZn ferrite composite EM wave absorbers which employs the natural lacquer as a binder showed an improved EM wave absorption characteristics in comparison with the conventional binder such as a silicone rubber and a chloride polyethylene(CPE). The matching frequency and the absorption ability of EM wave absorbers mixed with natural lacquer can be controled the change of the thickness of them.

  • In this paper, the permeability ($\mu_{\tau}'$, $\mu_{\tau}''$), dielectric constants($\varepsilon_{\tau}'$, $\varepsilon_{\tau}''$) and absorbption characteristics of Ferrite/Rubber 0-3 composites were investigated. The composite specimens were prepared by molding and curing the mixtures of matrix rubber and Ni-Zn ferrite powders which were synthesized by wet-direct method. The permeability ($u_{\tau}'$) of specimen was decreased from 2.58 to 0.7 in the range of 1$\sim$7(GHz) and kept constant 0.7$\sim$0.8 at higher than 7(GHz), the higher the frequency was, the less the valves of $u_{\tau}"$ was from 1.57 to 0.03. The optimum thickness of microwave absorber, utilizing the Smith chart, was 5(mm). The reflection loss shows over than 20(dB) from 5.5(GHz) to 7.5(GHz) at 5(mm) thickness and relative band width(B/fm) was about 30%.

  • A new damping composite materials with asphalt and EM absorber are studied for high advantage values. The composite Ni-Zn ferrite and dielectric PZT with a main material is well developed of EM absorbing, and is continuous maintained of origin character, damping absorbing. Experiments and calculation results are shown to act two points frequencies at 928MHz and from 2MHz to 4GHz below -l0dB The narrow band widths of ferrite change to broad band as insert of dielectric material, PZT good of EM wave absorbtion and broad band widths in multi layers with ferrite These are applied to develop of new material at new need frequencies.

  • The absorption performance of a metal-backed single layered electromagnetic wave absorber is optimized at matching conditions of thickness and frequency indicating the maximum returns loss of incidence electromagnetic wave in the contour map. These matching conditions are obtained by applying the electromagnetic impedance to the transmission line theory, which depend on the complex permeability and complex permittivity of absorber material. The magnetic materials with high permeability can enhance the matching thickness condition to the wide frequency range based on the decrease of permeability with frequency and it can be used as a wideband electromagnetic wave absorber material. Therefore, the magnetic materials with higher saturation magnetization and lower permittivity than NiZn ferrite can be applied to the wideband electromagnetic wave absorber in order to satisfy the newly enforcing the electromagnetic compatibility regulation in the future.
