For the RhB removal from the wastewater, electrochemical method was adapted to this study. Three dimensionally stable anode (Pt, Ir and Ru) and graphite and Ru cathode were used. In order to identify decolorization, the effects of electrode, current density, electrolyte and air flow rate were investigated. The effects of electrode material, current, electrolyte concentration and air flow rate were investigated on the decolorization of RhB. Electro-Fenton's reaction was evaluated by added $Fe^{2+}$ and $H_2O_2$ generated by the graphite cathode. Performance for RhB decolorization of the four electrode systems lay in: Ru-graphite > Ru-Ru > Ir-graphite > Pt-graphite. A complete color removal was obtained for RhB (30 mg/L) at the end of 30 min of electrolysis under optimum operations of 2 g/L NaCl concentration and 2 A current. $Fe^{2+}$ addition increased initial reaction and decreased final RhB concentration. However the effect was not high.

Feasibility of electrokinetic(EK)-Fenton process and Ozone chemical oxidation were investigated for tile removal of organic contaminants and heavy metals from the contaminated soil. In EK-Fenton process, accumulated electroosmotic flow(EOF) was 80 L for 26 days. Removal efficiency of TPH, As, and Ni were 61%, 36%, and 47%, respectively. The concentration of As was high near the anode due to the transport of anionic As toward the anode, while the concentration of Ni was high near the cathode by the movement of cationic Ni to the cathode. Field scale application of in-situ ozonation was carried out for removal of TPH in 3-D test cell (3 m$\times$2 m$\times$2 m). After 25 days of ozone injection, more than 80% of removal rate was observed through the test cell.
The effect of chemically oxidized intermediates of Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) compounds on the degradation of the parent PAHs was characterized and evaluated for the context of cooxidation. Anthracene and pyrene exhibited extensive degradation (mean percent removal of 57.5%) after 28 days of incubation by introducing the Fenton oxidation intermediate of the PAH compounds, while unoxidized anthracene and pyrene exhibited 12.5% removal The chemical oxidation products can serve as a structually similar analogue substrates for a consortia of soil microorganisms and as a metabolic intermediates in the biodegradation sequence of the parent PAH compounds. These results may be interpreted in the context of cooxidation mechanism whereby high recalcitrant PAH compounds are biodegraded in the soil and suggest a potential tool for bioremediation of PAHs contaminated soils and protection of groundwater.

Membrane modification by different concentrations of acrylic acid has been described. Grafting of acrylic acid to the surface of a polypropylene membrane was obtained by a Fenton-type reaction. Membrane permeability seemed to have been dependent on the value of pH in the solution. To explain tendency, a simple theoretical model was developed. The model incorporates explicitly statistical conformations of a polyacid chain grafted onto the pore surface. The charged capillary model with a varying diameter for porous membranes was then used to evaluate the permeability of the membrane. It has been shown both theoretically and experimentally that the permeability of a grafted membrane depends on the pH of the solution.
Removal of phenanthrene by electrokinetic method combined with Fenton-like process was studied in a model system. The scale of reactor was 100cm in length, 100cm in width, and 70cm in height. The distance between electrodes was 70cm. Indonesia kaoline was selected as a model soil. When constant voltage of 100 V was applied to this system, current decreased from 200 mA to 100 mA for 14 days. Total accumulated EOF was about 55,000 mL. The concentration of phenanthrene near anode was very low because direction of electroosmosis was from anode to cathode and hydrogen peroxide was supplied to anode reservoir. Phenanthrene concentration was increased as the location was far from anode because hydrogen peroxide was gradually decomposed and then the rate of hydroxyl radical production was decreased.
According to recent investigations regarding Fenton-like reaction, it was reported that there was a key factor to decompose organic materials by not only the hydoroxyl radical but also several reductants which were superoxide anion and hydroperoxide anion. This research was focused on an investigation of the decomposition of carbon tetrachloride(CT) by reductants which were generated by pyrolusite with hydrogen peroxide. Generally, CT decomposition rate increased with raising pH values. Especially,, CT was decomposed over 60 percent by 10,000 ppm of hydrogen peroxide within 10 minutes in neutral condition. In addition, the decomposition of chlorinated compounds would be accelerated in alkaline condition, even with low concentration of hydrogen peroxide.
The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in soil and effluent was measured to understand the relationship between the profile of hydrogen peroxide and the removal efficiency of phenanthrene in an Electrokinetic-Fenton process. Electrokinetic phenomena were observed in two different conditions for 1, 2, 4, and 7 days; 3.5% and 10% hydrogen peroxide. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in soil was high near the anode and decreased towards the cathode due to the direction of electroosmosis. The hydrogen peroxide concentration in effluent increased with time, but the value was lower than the initial. The removal efficiency of phenanthrene at 10% hydrogen peroxide was higher than the case at 3.5%. The removal efficiency after 7 days was high(> 97%) in both cases.
Removal of phenanthrene by electrokinetic method combined with Fenton-like process was studied in a model system. The scale of reactor was 120 cm in length, 10 cm in width, and 50 cm in height. Sand was selected as a model soil. Bentonite was filled in the space between reservoir and contaminated soil to control the flow rate of water. When constant voltage of 100 V was applied to this system, current varied from 1000 mA to 290 mA for 28 days. pH of anode and cathode reservoirs became to 2 and 13, respectively. Removal efficiency of phenanthrene was more than 60 %.
