Feldspar, along with Quartz, are the most frequently produced minerals in Korea; however, the potential value is estimated to be significantly low because of the scarce research on the development and application of material properties, except for their limited use in manufacturing minerals, glass, and paints. In this study, we analyzed the eco-friendly material and reactivity improvement characteristics of weathered feldspar through activation technique. The joint structural features observed on the surface of the weathered feldspar show that the joint arrangements are irregularly distributed, and the cavities are interconnected. Due to the irregularly connected cavities on the surface of weathered feldspar, the reaction area of the weathered feldspar is increased; hence the weathered feldspar is considered as a highly reactive pozzolan material when combined with cement. As a result of applying the thermal, mechanical, and chemical activation techniques to improve the functionality of the weathered feldspar, the cation exchange capacity, density, and uniaxial compression strength characteristics were improved. It is considered that weathered feldspar by these porous characteristics can be used as an eco-friendly construction material with excellent physical and chemical properties.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of the supplemental alkali feldspar-ilite(feldspar) on growth performance and meat quality in broiler ducks for 43 days. One hundred eighty broiler ducks were divided into 5 groups of 12ducks. Dietary levels of feldspar 0, 0+antibiotics, 0.5, 1.0 and $1.5\%$ were added to experimental diets of each of the groups. Daily weight gain was slightly increased in 1.0 and $1.5\%$ feldspar treatments. Feed intake was slightly increased at all feldspar treatments. Glucose concentration of serum profile was decreased whereas BUN concentration was significantly increased (p<0.05) at $0.5\%$ feldspar. Cholesterol concentration was decreased at all feldspar treatments, this difference was especially observed in supplemental levels of $0.5\%$ feldspar(p<0.05). Carcass weight was increased at all feldspar treatments. Moisture and crude fat contents of proximate chemical composition in duck meat were decreased at all feldspar treatment, this difference especially was observed in supplemental levels of $1.5\%$ feldspar(p<0.05) on crude fat content. Lightness and yellowness was increased at all feldspar treatment. Cholesterol contents and TBA in meat were decreased, but this parameters were not difference by feldspar treatment. The composition of saturated fatty acids(SFA) was decreased, whereas unsaturated fatty acids(USFA) was slightly increased by feldspar treatment. The Pb content of heavy metal concentrations was increased with compared control, but not difference. The appearance of sensory evaluation was improved by supplemental feldspar, especially in supplemental feldspar, 1.0 and $1.5\%$(p<0.05). The results of this study indicate that the supplemental alkali feldspar may improve the production and meat quality of broiler ducks.
The Mesozoic leucocratic granite in the northeastern margin of the Taebaeksan Basin was transformed to protomylonite and mylonite. Mylonitic foliations generally strike to NWWNW and dip to NE with the development of a sinistral strike-slip (top-to-the-northwest) shear sense. Grain-size reduction of feldspar in the mylonitized leucocratic granite occurred due to fracturing, myrmekite formation and neocrystallization of albitic plagioclase along the shear fractures of K-feldspar porphyroclasts. As the deformation proceeded, compositional layering consisting of feldspar-, quartz- and/or muscovite-rich layers developed in the mylonite. In the feldspar-rich layer, fine-grained albitic plagioclase and interstitial K-feldspar were deformed dominantly by granular flow. On the other hand, quartz-rich layers containing core-mantle and quartz ribbons structures were deformed by dislocation creep. Based on calculations from conventional two-feldspar and ternary feldspar geothermometers, mylonitization temperatures of the leucocratic granite range from 360 to $450^{\circ}C$. It thus indicates that the mylonitization has occurred under greenschist-facies conditions. Based on the geochemical features and previous chronological data, the leucocratic granite was emplaced during the Middle Jurassic at volcanic arc setting associated with crustal thickening. And then the mylonitization of the granite occurred during the late Middle to Late Jurassic (150-165 Ma). Therefore, the mylonitization of the Jurassic granitoids in the Taebaeksan Basin was closely related to the development of the Honam shear zone.
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feldspar on growth performance and body composition in broiler chicks. A total of 120 one-day old 'Ross' broilers were assigned to 5 treatments in a completely randomized design. The five dietary treatments were control, antibiotic(0.05% chlortetracycline), feldspar 0.5, 1.0, 1.5% diets. The weight gain of broilers fed a diet containing 1.5% feldspar (2,088 g) was significantly (P<0.05) higher than control (1,888 g). The feed intake was significantly increased in feldspar treatments compared to that of the control (P<0.05). However, feed conversion ratio was significantly increased in 1.0% feldspar treatment compared to that of the control (P<0.05). The moisture and protein contents of meat were significantly increased in 1.0% feldspar treatment (75.69 and 15.22%) compared to that of the control (73.38 and 9.80%). However, the crude fat content of meat was reduced in feldspar treatments compared to control and antibiotics treatments (P<0.05). The TBA value of meat in feldspar treatments was significantly reduced compared to that of the control (P<0.05). The plasma cholesterol content was 129 mg/dL in 0.5% feldspar and 134 mg/dL in 1.0% feldspar treatments, which were significantly higher (P<0.05) than that of the control (103 mg/dL).
About forty ore deposits of $CaF_2{\pm}Au{\pm}Ag{\pm}Cu{\pm}Pb{\pm}Zn$ are widely distributed in the Geumsan district and are believed to be genetically related to the Mesozoic Geumsan granitic rocks. Based on their petrogeochemistry and isotopic dating data, the granitic rocks in this district can be classified into two groups ; the Jurassic granitic rocks(equigranular leucocratic granite, porphyritic biotite granite, porphyritic pink-feldspar granite, seriate leucocratic granite) and the Cretaceous granitic rocks(seriate pink-feldspar granite, equigranular alkali-feldspar granite, equigranular pink-feldspar granite, miarolitic pink-feldspar granite, equigranular biotite granite). Spatial distribution of fluorite ore deposits, fluorine contents of granitic rocks and fracture patterns in this district suggest that three granitic rocks(equigranular biotite granite, equigranular pink-feldspar granite, miarolitic pink-feldspar granite) of the Cretaceous period be genetically related to the fluorite mineralization. In these fluorite-related granitic rocks, fluorine is most highly correlated with Cs(correlation coefficient(r)>0.9), and also highly with MnO, U, Sm, Yb, Lu, Zn, Y, Li(r>0.7). Statistically the variation of fluorine in the fluorite-related granitic rocks can be explained in terros of only three elements, such as Lu, CaO and Cs, and the fluorite-related granitic rocks can be discriminated from the fluorite-nonrelated granitic rocks by a linear functional equation of La, Ce, Cs and F($Z_{Ust}=-1.38341-0.00231F-0.19878Ce+0.38169La+0.54720Cs$). Also, equigranular alkali-feldspar granite is classified into the fluorite-related granitic rocks by means of the linear functional equation($Z_{Ust}$).
The Wolchul Mt. area is composed of a biotite granite and a pink feldspar granite. These granites are distinctly different in terms of their field occurrence, mineralogy, trace element and REE composition, as well as their isotope ages. The biotite granite has higher ferromagnesian elements and lower lithophile trace element abundances than the pink feldspar granite. The biotite granite has high Sr and Ba while the pink feldspar granite has high Rb. On the Rb-Sr-Ba diagram the biotite granite plots as a granodiorite while the pink feldspar granite belongs to a strongly differentiated granite. The ${\Sigma}$ LREE/ ${\Sigma}$ REE for the biotite granite is 0.95 and for the pink feldspar granite it is 0.88. The ratio shows a steep decrese in LREE while HREE is essentially constant. Based on the Eu/Sm, $[La/Lu]_{cN}$ and low Eu(-), the biotite granite has quartz diorite to granodiorite composition while the pink feldspar granite, with a relatively high Eu(-) anomaly, falls into the monzo- to syenogranite classification. The silica vs. trace element diagrams for the two granites indicate that the biotite granite could have formed near to a continental margin or volcanic island setting environment while the pink feldspar granite formed within a continental plate or as result of plate collision. The biotite granite has a U-Pb zircon age of 175 Ma, i.e. Middle Jurassic. The pink feldspar granite is younger, it has a K-Ar orthoclase age $93.6{\pm}1.5$ Ma which is Late Cretaceous age.
This study has been performed to evaluate the possibility of utilizing feldspar porphyry as an adsorbent for heavy metals in natural water. The research sample rock 'Maekbansuk' was altered feldspar porphyry which included chlorite, epidote and calcite formed by a prophylitic alteration process. In extraction tests, the majority of extracted elements were Ca and Na, which were extracted in much greater abundance from the groundmass than from the feldspar phenocryst. In adsorption tests, the adsorption capacities of Pb, Fe and Cu within an hour of reaction time were 99, 98 and 97%, respectively, but that of As remained 25% for a full 24 hours. The high adsorption capacities of altered feldspar porphyry for Pb, Fe and Cu suggest its potential utilization as a heavy metal adsorbent fur water purification.

The studied area is composed of Precambrian gneiss complex, middle Jurassic biotite granite, late Cretaceour sediments, volcanics and pink feldspar granite. Characteristic minerals of the biotite granite is plagioclase and hornblende whereas the pink feldspar granite is pink feldspar (perthite) and quartz. Plagioclase compositions of the biotite granite and the pink feldspar granite are oligoclase to calcic andesine ($An_{18-44}$) and sodic albite ($An_{0.5-5.0}$), respectively. In the variation diagrams of the Harker and normative Q-Or-Pl diagram, the biotite granite belongs to the category from granodiorite to granite, the pink feldspar granite from nomal to late granite. The values of D.I. L.I. and alkalinity of the pink feldspar granite are higher than those of the biotite granite. While CaO is enriched in the biotite granite, $K_2O$ is enriched in the pink feldspar granite. The ratio of $K_2O/Na_2O$ which indicates the relative ratio of alkali is 1.06 in the pink feldspar granite, and 0.86 in the biotite granite. In A-M-F and N-C-K diagrams both these granites are plotted in peraluminus granite ($Al_2O_3$>$Na_2O+K_2O+CaO$) region, assigned to calc alkaline series and alkaline series respectively. Put into the form of A-C-F diagram, the biotite granite falls under I-type, and the pink feldspar granite S-type. On the base of whole rock ratios of $Fe^{+3}/Fe^{+2}+Fe^{+3}$ and $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ for the granites in studied area, the biotite granite indicates ilmenite series (0.26) and S-type and/or contaminated I-type ($0.72020{\pm}0.00050$), the pink feldspar granite magnetite series (0.44) and I-type ($0.70826{\pm}0.00020$).
Potassium (K) is an element essential for plant growth. This study was aimed to examine the effects of three formulations of potash feldspar, powder, sand, and granule type on the growth of radish and beet in organic farming. 0.1% three formulations of potash feldspar were treated on the soil before transplanting 15 days-old seedlings of radish and beet in greenhouse. The results showed that all kinds of potash feldspar significantly increased shoot and root growth, and soluble solid contents excepted for root hardness in radish and beet. Among them, the powder type of potash feldspar was the most effective on foliage and root growth of radish and beet. Based on the results, it was confirmed that 0.1% potash feldspar treated in the rhizosphere of radish and beet can promote the growth of them.
A Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometric method was described for the determination of quartz, mica(sericite) and feldspar(potassium feldspar) in respirable dust in Taebaek area. The results were as follows; 1) The concentration of minerals were determined from the intensity of absorption peak of quartz at $799cm^{-1}$, sericite at $539cm^{-1}$, and potassium feldspar at $648cm^{-1}$ respectively. 2) The precision(C. V. %) for the quartz determination was $7.70{\pm}2.68%$ from 10 to $200{\mu}g$ of quartz. 3) The precision for the sericite determination was $16.34{\pm}6.82%$ from 30 to $500{\mu}g$ of serictite. 4) The precision for the potassium feldspar determination was $5.28{\pm}1.74%$ from 30 to $500{\mu}g$ of potassium feldspar. 5) The concentration of respirable dust in Taebaek area was $4.90{\pm}3.29mg/m^3$ (0.4-93.7%), percent quartz was $1.80{\pm}4.14%$ (0.01-20.56%), percent sericite was $11.37{\pm}6.43%$ (0.00-29.69%), percent potassium feldspar was 8.15% (n=7, 3.41-19.70%). 6) The difference of respirable coal dust, quartz, and sericite concentrations in drilling, coal cutting, hauling and seperating was significant respectively (p<0.05).
