Some effects of dietary conditions on the metabolism of nucleic acid and protein in organs of the Albino Rats have been studied. The young rats to be examined were fed on the control diet and the diets deprived of one component among protein, carbohydrate, and lipid, such as protein free diet (PF: 432 kcal/100g) carbohydrate free diet (CF: 432kcal/100g), and lipid free diet (LF: 392kcal/100g) for three, seven, and fifteen days, respectively. The contents of DNA and RNA in the liver and the brain, and also those of protein-nitrogen(PN) and nonprotein-nitrogen (NPN) in the live, the brain, and the serum have been measured. The results are as followe: 1. The contents of DNA per gram of liver were increased by feeding on protein free diet. It is concluded that the critical factor for the result is not the increase in the rates of DNA syntheses, but the decrease in the turnover rates of DNA. 2. The metabolism of DNA in the liver showed the normal status by feeding on carbohydrate free diet. On the other hand, the rates of DNA syntheses were increased by feeding on lipid free diet. 3. The rates of DNA syntheses in the brain were decreased by feeding on the unbalanced diet, such as protein free, carbohydrete free, and lipid free diet. 4. In the liver and the brain, the rates of DNA syntheses were decreased by feeding on protein free diet. But the rates showed the normal status by feeding on the carbohydrate free diet, and also showed the similar metabolism to that in the case of the control group by feeding on lipid free diet. 5. In the liver, the rates of protein syntheses were decreased, whereas the contents of nonprotein-nitrogen were increased by feeding on protein free diet. 6. In the liver and the brain, the protein syntheses showed the more increasing rates than the rates in the case of the control diet by feeding on lipid free diet. 7. In the serum, the contents of protein did not change in a short period, also the insufficient feeling on protein was examined. It is clear that in the liver the rates of protein syntheses are decreased and the rates of protein catabolism are increased, since the rates of nucleic acid syntheses are decreased by feeding on the protein free diet. On the other hand, it is considered that in the brain the turnover rates of protein does not have correlation with the rates of nucleic acid syntheses, also these are decreased by feeding on protein free diet. And also it is believed that the phenomena of homeostasis for carrying the normal metabolism of nucleic acid and protein in the liver and the brain are operated in a short period as possible, by feeding on carbohydrate free and lipid free diets.

Ten feeding trials were conducted to determine and to make the guideline for the optimum feeding rates in olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus fed extruded pellets at various growth stages at the optimum rearing water temperature. The entire trials were grouped into four growth stages, namely the first stage of juvenile (5 and 9 g), the second stage of juvenile (20, 30, 40 and 50 g), growing (240 and 317 g) and sub-adult (384 and 525 g) stages with 2, 4, 2 and 2 feeding trials, respectively. In the first and second experiments, results indicated that the optimum feeding rates for the first stage of juvenile olive flounder weighing 5 and 9 g could be >5.17 but <5.52% and >4.44 but <4.64% body weight (BW)/day, respectively. In the third, fourth, fifth and sixth experiments, results suggested that the optimum feeding rates for the second stage of juvenile olive flounder weighing 20, 30, 40 and 50 g could be >3.47 but <3.50, >2.85 but <3.53, >2.58 but <3.04 and >2.36 but <2.50% BW/day, respectively. In the seventh and eighth experiments, results showed the optimum feeding rates for growing olive flounder weighing 240 and 317 g to be >1.03 but <1.25 and >0.85 but <1.0 % BW/day, respectively. In the ninth and tenth experiments, the optimum feeding rates in sub-adult olive flounder weighing 384 and 525 g were shown to be >0.69 but <0.7 and >0.55 but <0.8% BW/day, respectively. We will compare these results with the previous studies done by other research groups.

Three feeding trials were conducted to investigate the optimal feeding rates of subadult Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegeli at low, optimal and high water temperatures. In Exp-I, triplicate groups of fish (248 g) were fed a commercial diet (CD) with five different feeding rates of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8% body weight per day for 10 weeks at the low temperature ($11.6-15.2^{\circ}C$). In Exp-II, fish (129 g) were fed the same CD with five different feeding rates of 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.2%, 1.6% and 2.0% body weight per day for 10 weeks at the optimal temperature ($16.0-18.8^{\circ}C$). In Exp-III, fish (85.7 g) were fed the same CD with five different feeding rates of 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.2%, 1.6% and 2.0% body weight per day for 12 weeks at the high temperature ($21.0-28.5^{\circ}C$). The optimal feeding rates in the low, optimal, and high water temperatures were estimated to be 0.56%, 0.93% and 1.17% body weight per day, respectively, for subadult Korean rockfish.
I investigated whether US naval pulp wastes (pulverized paper products), which is planned to be dumped into offshore waters, may affect the ecology of major components of marine zooplankton. The presence of slurry (0.6% concentration - wet weight ; wet weight) did not significantly affect the population growth rates of the heterotrophic dinoflagellate Polykrikos kofoidii fed on Lingulodinium polyedrum, but significantly reduced the ingestion rates of the calanoid copepods Acartia spp. on L. polyedrum and those of the copepod Calanus pacificus on Akashiwo sanguinea (previously Gymnodinium sanguineum). However, C. pacificus, originally exposed to 0.6% slurry for 24 hour, can recover its feeding rates when slurry disappears. Therefore, if slurry is diluted quickly due to trubulence after being dumped at 0.6% concentration, its presence may not affect Calanus. Chemicals leached from slurry did not affect the feeding rate of Calanus. Therefore, mechanical interference by slurry on the feeding and/or swimming of copepods may be mainly responsible for the reduction of the ingestion rates.

Purpose: To investigate the impacts of individualized versus group prenatal breast-feeding education on postnatal breast-feeding knowledge, this study addressed techniques and rates of first-time mothers as part of data collection for developing breast-feeding education programs. Methods: A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design was applied to compare the effects of prenatal breast-feeding individual vs. group education among first-time mothers. Collected data was analyzed using $x^2$-test, t-test, paired t-test, and ANOVA. Results: There was no difference on the knowledge of prenatal breast-feeding between individual and group education. However, individual education was a more effective method than group education on post-natal knowledge. In the 4th and 8th weeks of breast-feeding, individual education was more effective than group education. However, there was no difference between the two education methods at Week 12. Conclusion: This study indicates that many outpatient mothers should be given various individual approaches and prenatal breast-feeding education programs to provide them with opportunities for education to improve breast-feeding rates. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the breast-feeding rates at Week 12, which may be attributed not to education methods but to changes in external environmental factors. Further research is needed to address the changes.

Two feeding trials were conducted to investigate the optimum feeding rates in juvenile olive founder Paralichthys olivaceus fed practical expanded pellet(EP) containing 58.1% crude protein, 10.7% crude lipid, and 10.8% ash at low and high water temperatures. In the first experiment, triplicate groups of 15 fish with average weight of 7.7 g were fed at one of seven feeding rates(0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.25, or 2.5% of body weight/day or to satiation) for 4 weeks at low water temperature. In the second experiment, quadruplicate groups of 20 fish with average weight of 5.5 g were fed at one of eight feeding rates(0, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.25, 4.5, or 4.75% of body weight/day or to satiation) for 4 weeks at high water temperature. Based on growth performance, we estimated that the optimum feeding rates for juvenile olive flounder were 1.97-2.51% and 4.82-6.36% of body weight/day at low and high water temperatures, respectively.
Purpose: This study was done to compare breast feeding rates and factors influencing feeding practice between late preterm ($34{\leq}GA<37$) and preterm infants (GA<34). Methods: A survey was done of 207 late preterm and 117 preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) of 4 university hospitals in D city. Data were collected from July 2009 to June 2010 from 324 medical records in the NICU. Breast-feeding at home was checked either by telephone survey or questioning during hospital visits. Results: Rate of breast feeding for late preterm infants was significantly lower than for preterm infants. There was no significant difference in breast-feeding at home. We found differences in factors influencing breast feeding between the two groups. Factors influencing feeding for late preterm infants were type of delivery, mothers' occupation, feeding type during hospitalization, time elapse from hospital discharge, total admission days, infant's body weight at first feeding and length of NPO (nothing by mouth). Factors influencing feeding for preterm infants were birth order, maternal disease and obstetric complications, and one-minute Apgar score. Conclusion: Results of the study show low rates of breast-feeding for late preterm infants indicating a need for breast-feeding education for mothers of these infants.
Postprandial ammonia excretion and oxygen consumption in olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus fed two different feed types, moist pellet (MP) and expanded pellet (EP) diets, to satiation were determined at $12^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, and $25^{\circ}C$ for 48 h. The ammonia excretion and oxygen consumption rates increased with increasing water temperature. However, the postprandial times for the maximum rates of ammonia excretion and oxygen consumption were shortened from 12 h to 6 h after feeding with increasing water temperature. The ammonia excretion and oxygen consumption rates of the fish fed EP were significantly higher (P < 0.05) than those fed MP at 12 h post-feeding both for $12^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$. The highest (P < 0.05) weight-specific ammonia excretion rates at $12^{\circ}C$ were observed in the fish fed EP and MP at $12.1mg\;NH_3-N\;kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ and $8.7mg\;NH_3-N\;kg^{-1}h^{-1}$, respectively, for 12 h and 9 h after feeding. The highest (P < 0.05) weight-specific oxygen consumption rates at $12^{\circ}C$ were observed in fish fed EP and MP at $116.4mg\;kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ and $101.0mg\;kg^{-1}h^{-1}$, respectively, for 12 h after feeding. The highest ammonia excretion rates at $25^{\circ}C$ in the fish fed EP and MP increased to $16.9mg\;NH_3-N\;kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ and $18.3mg\;NH_3-N\;kg^{-1}h^{-1}$, respectively, for 6 h after feeding. The highest (P < 0.05) weight-specific oxygen consumption rates at $25^{\circ}C$ were observed in fish fed EP and MP at $184.3mg\;O_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ and $197.3mg\;O_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$, respectively. These data are valuable for the design of biofilters and development of effluent treatment technologies for the land-based flounder farms.
Seven feeding trials were conducted to determine the effects of feeding rate and frequency in the Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegeli at seven different water temperatures. Two feeding-rate experiments for 5-g Korean rockfish at $17^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$; three feeding rate experiments for 16-g Korean rockfish at $16^{\circ}C$ and $24^{\circ}C$; and finally, two feeding frequency experiments for 93- and 100-g at $15^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ were conducted. Twenty fish averaging $5.5{\pm}0.2$ g ($mean{\pm}SD$) were randomly distributed into 18 indoor tanks containing 40-L seawater from a semi-recirculation system. Fish were fed a commercial diet for 4 weeks at water temperatures of $17^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. Two feeding trials were conducted to determine the optimum feeding frequency in growing Korean rockfish reared at temperatures of $15^{\circ}C$ and $19^{\circ}C$. Broken line regression analysis of weight gain (WG) indicated that the optimum feeding rates of 5-g growing Korean rockfish were 4.48% (BW/day; BW, body weight) at $17^{\circ}C$ and 4.83% (BW/day) at $20^{\circ}C$. Broken line regression analysis of WG showed optimum feeding rates of 16-g juvenile Korean rockfish of 3.41% (BW/day) at $16^{\circ}C$, 3.75% (BW/day) at $20^{\circ}C$, and 3.34% (BW/day) at $24^{\circ}C$. The biological performance, results, along with morphological indices and serological characteristics, suggest that a feeding frequency of 1 meal/day was optimal to improve WG in growing Korean rockfish grown from 93 to 133 g at a water temperature of $15^{\circ}C$, and 100 to 132 g at $19^{\circ}C$.

It is difficult to determine the feeding rate of coagulant in the water treatment plant, due to nonlinearity, multivariables and slow response characteristics etc. To deal with this difficulty, the genetic-fuzzy system genetic-equation system and the neural network system were used in determining the feeding rate of the coagulant. Fuzzy system and neural network system are excellently robust in multivariables and nonlinear problems. but fuzzy system is difficult to construct the fuzzy parameter such as the rule table and the membership function. Therefore we made the genetic-fuzzy system by the fusion of genetic algorithms and fuzzy system, and also made the feeding rate equation by genetic algorithms. To train fuzzy system, equation parameter and neural network system, the actual operation data of the water treatment plant was used. We determined optimized feeding rates of coagulant by the fuzzy system, the equation and the neural network and also compared them with the feeding rates of the actual operation data.
