  • The effects of enternal feeding on wound healing and intestinal movement in 30 gastrotomized dogs were investigated. The dogs were divided into enteral and parenteral feeding groups. Wound healing was evaluated with tensile strengh on the suture line 4 days after surgery and intestinal movement with the auscultation of borborygmus sound in the abdomen. There was no difference of the tensile strengh on the suture line between enternal and parenteral feeding groups. Borborygmus was auscultated in all dogs of the enteral feeding groups from day2 after surgery. It was thought that enteral feeding had no detrimental effect on wound healing as compared with the parenteral feeding and had good effect on the prevention of ileus in gastrotomized dogs.

  • Red sea bream, Pagrus major a fish species characterized by its dualistic feeding pattern, was investigated to study the synchronizing effect of light and food on the demand-feeding rhythm. Nocturnal and diurnal red sea bream, both in groups and individually, were exposed to restricted-feeding and Light-Dark cycles of different periods. The phase relationship between both zeitgebers was also studied. In some cases, food availability restricted to the light or dark phase contrary to that of the previous feeding phase changed a diurnal feeding pattern into nocturnal and vice versa, suggesting that food can be one of the switching factors that decides whether the circadian system of red sea bream is diurnal or nocturnal. However, the fact that the feeding pattern of some fish was unrelated with the phase in which food was available suggests that other internal and/or external-factors could be involved in the temporal flexibility of red sea bream.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of an educational program on parturient women's feeding behavior One hundred and twenty seven mothers who delivered in one general hospital in Seoul participated in the study, 66 mothers of whom were assigned to experimental group and 61, to control group. The data collection was done from April 20 to June 30 in 1997 and the educational program was applied to the experimental group on the third postpartum day and telephone calls were made on the fourth and the twelfth postpartum week to investigate feeding behavior after discharge. The collected data were analyzed by means of Chi-square test and descriptive statistics. The results are as follows : 1. Breast-feeding rate of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group($x^2$=6.578, p=.043). 2. Background variables affecting feeding behavior were age and feeding plan(age: $x^2$=8.660, p=.070, feeding plan : $x^2$=25.762, p=.000). 3. The insufficient milk supply was the main cause of discontinuing breast-feeding and others were mother's job, baby's jaundice and diarrhea, baby's refusal to suck breastmilk. In conclusion, the breast-feeding educational program which was applied in this study is effective in the promotion of breast-feeding.

  • In order to study the insect-insect interaction of the insect community associated with Rumex obtusifolius. this experiment was designed in such a way that the feeding of one insect could indirectly affect the subsequent insect species through the changes in host plant (plant mediated insect-insect interaction ). Philaenus spumarius and Gastrophysa viridula were selected for the experiment. To investigate the effect of P. spumarius feeding on the ecology of G. viridula, first, statistical analyses were carried out. As results. no significant difference between Control and Experimental was found in the development patterns (Repeated Measures ANOVA, F=0.744, p=0.667) and survivorships (F=0.373. p=0.990). As the results from this experiment show, there was no effect on the ecology of G. viridula due to the previous feeding by P. spumarius on R. obtusifolius leaves.

  • A total of 120 male and 240 female quail (Coturnix coturnix Pharaoh) were used to determine the effect of feeding time on laying and reproductive performance of Pharaoh quail. They were fed ad libitum between 09:00 to 17:00 or full day, daily. Each female-male pair was housed in multiple-bird cages and colony cages. Initial and final body weight, quail-day egg production, feed consumption per egg and mortality were measured to determine laying performance of breeders. A total of 960 eggs were used to determine reproductive performance of quail in each treatment group. Eggs were incubated in a commercial setter and hatcher in standard conditions. Embryonic mortality, apparent fertility, hatchability of total and fertile eggs were calculated to determine the reproductive performance. Results indicated that feeding between 09:00 to 17:00 h reduced final body weight and egg production (p<0.001, p<0.001). Whereas, limited time of feeding improved hatchability of total (p<0.001) and fertile eggs (p<0.001) and reduced embryonic mortality (p<0.001) when compared with the effects of feeding full day. It was found that there were no significant differences for the egg production of quail housed in different cage systems. Quail caged in multiple-bird cages consumed less feed (p<0.01) compared to quail housed in colony cages. There were significant differences for the mortality (p<0.05), hatchability of total (p<0.001) and fertile eggs (p<0.001), and embryonic mortality (p<0.001) during the incubation due to main effect of cage systems. There were significant cage $systems{\times}feeding$ time interactions for hatchability of total and fertile eggs and embryonic mortality (p<0.001). As a conclusion; feeding from 09:00 to 17:00 reduced laying performance of quail and improved the reproductive traits compared to full day feeding of quail breeders. But, further investigations are needed to determine the optimum length of feeding time and egg production of breeders in quail fed limited time must be evaluated in comparison with its beneficial or detrimental effects.

  • The effect of riboflavin feeding on lipid emtabolism in rat were studied. 70 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 7 diet group ; control, riboflavin, cholesterol, MLHP (methyl linoleate hydroperoxide) cholesterol plus MLHP, cholesterol plus riboflavin, cholesterol plus MLHP plus riboflavin. After 4 weeks formular feeding sera of animals were collected, then checked cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid levels and lipoprotein by use of cellulose acetate papter. The results were as follows ; 1) Marked increase of triglyceride and phospholipid levels were found in the group feeding with cholesterol, cholesterol plus MLHP. 2) Combined riboflavin feeding prevented the increase of triglyceride and phospholipid levels in the group of cholesterol, cholesterol plus MLPH. 3) Also combined riboflavin feeding prevented the increase of $\beta$-lipoprotein fraction in cholesterol feeding group. Our results demonstrate that riboflavin has an inhibitory effects on the derangements of lipid metabolism due to administration of cholesterol, cholesterol plus MLHP.

  • The development process of KSR-III propulsion feeding system is subscripted. The purpose of propulsion feeding system is to feed a certain amount of propellant from propellant tank to engine by the end of combustion. Pressure-fed liquid rocket, KSR-III has the unique characteristics of both pressure regulator and cavitation venturi as a passive flow control device. Main parameters of feeding system are confirmed by both water test and CFD(전산유체) technique. Flow control effect with venturi is confirmed by water test. Initial stabilization characteristic of pressure regulator is confirmed by real propellant test. And, to avoid the effect of resonance between rocket and feeding system, this article deal with POGO(포고) analysis to the feeding system.

  • Ball screws are used in the feeding system for transmission of driving force. The friction effect between bed and table, which can affect in accuracyin one dimension feeding and describe the dynamic feeding error, could be simplified as a specific model through experiments. The experiments for dynamic feeding errors were performed om tje NC lathe eith a ball screw. The errors in feeding were measured with respect to the variances of feed, spindle speed and motor current for feeding. A rotary encoder and a current sensor were installed with NC lathe.
