Fish Activity State based an Intelligent Automatic Fish Feeding Model Using Fuzzy Inference (퍼지추론을 이용한 어류 활동상태 기반의 지능형 자동급이 모델)

  • The automated fish feed system currently used in Korea supplies a certain amounts of feed to water tanks at a certain time. This automated system can reduce the labor cost of managing aqua farms, but it is very difficult to control intelligently and appropriately the amount of expensive feed that is critical to aqua farm productivity. In this paper, we propose the FIIFF Inference Model( Fuzzy Inference-based Intelligent Fish Feeding Model) that can solves the problems of these existing automatic fish feeding devices and maximizes the efficiency of feed supply while properly maintaining the growth rate of fish in aqua farms. The proposed FIIFF inference model has the advantage of being able to control feed amounts appropriately since it computes the amount of feed using the current water environments and fish activity state of the aqua farms. The result of the feed amount yield experiment with the proposed FIIFF Inference Model represents the effect of saving 14.8% over the eight months of actual feed amount in the aqua farm.

Chronic Toxicity of Cyanide on Survival, Feeding and Growth of Israel Carp, Cyprinus carpio (이스라엘 잉어, Cyprinus carpio의 생존, 섭이 및 성장에 미치는 시안의 만성적 독성)

  • Chronic toxicity of cyanide on survival, feeding and growth rate were examined in the Israel carp, Cyprinus carpio under a continuous-flow system. Survival rate of the Israel carp was significantly affected by $\ge151{\mu}$g/$\ell$ cyanide concentration, and feed efficiency and feeding rate were also reduced above $151{\mu}$g/$\ell$ cyanide concentration. Growth rate of the Israel carp exposed to $\ge73{\mu}$g/$\ell$ cyanide concentration were significantly decreased than that exposed to normal condition.

Skin Pigmentation of 0-age and 1-age Red- and White-colored Fancy Carp Cyprinus carpio var. koi Fed Diets Containing Different Amounts of Paprika (사료 내 파프리카 함량에 따른 당년생 및 1년생 비단잉어(Cyprinus carpio var. koi) 홍백 표피의 체색 변화)

  • This study investigated the effect of dietary paprika on the skin coloration of red- and white-colored fancy carp Cyprinus carpio var. koi, in two age groups: 0-age ($7.4{\pm}0.1$ g/fish) and 1-age ($164{\pm}2.9$ g/fish). Three isonitrogenous diets were formulated to contain 0, 5, and 10% paprika (Con, P5 and P10, respectively). Three replicate groups of 0-age fish and two replicate groups of 1-age fish were fed one of the experimental diets for 9 weeks. Survival, weight gain, and feed efficiency were not significantly affected by the dietary paprika level (P>0.05) at both fish sizes. The dietary paprika level influenced the redness ($a^*$), lightness ($L^*$), and yellowness ($b^*$) of fish skin. The $L^*$ value of the skin of the fish fed the P5 and P10 diets tended to decrease with feeding period. The skin $a^*$ value of 0-age fish (small) fed the diets containing paprika increased significantly with feeding period and was higher than that of fish fed the control diet after 3 weeks (P<0.05). However, the $a^*$ value of 1-age fish (large) fed the diets containing paprika tended to increase slightly with feeding period. At the end of the experiment, the skin total carotenoid level was increased significantly in fish of both sizes fed the P5 and P10 diets compared to fish fed the control diet. Therefore, 5% paprika powder in the diet increases the skin redness of red- and white-colored fancy carp, especially in small fish.

The Effects of Level of Isoflavones Supplementation on Bone Mineral Density in Growing Female Rats (이소플라본 섭취수준이 성장기 암컷 쥐의 골밀도에 미치는 영향)

  • The overall purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of level of isoflavones supplementation on bone metabolism in growing female rats. The effects of level of isoflavones supplementation on bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) were inspected in this study. Forty-five rats divided into three groups: Casein, $^1/{_2}IF$, IF. The serum and urine concentrations of calcium and phosphorus were determined. BMD and BMC were estimated by using PIXImus (GE Lunar Co, Wisconsin.) in spine and femur on 3, 6, 9 weeks after feeding. This study of results were as follows: The isoflavones supplementation level did not affect weight gain, mean food intake and food efficiency ratio. The serum concentration of calcium, phosphorus were not significantly different by different level of isoflavones supplementation. The urinary calcium and phosphorus excretion were not significantly different, too. Spine and femur BMD, BMC were not significantly increased by different level of isoflavones supplementation on 3 and 6 weeks after feeding. Spine BMD and spine BMC per weight, femur BMC per weight were significantly increased in the groups $^1/{_2}IF$ and IF at the ninth week after feeding, but there was no significant difference by different level of isoflavones supplementation. Spine BMD per weight and femur BMD per weight were significantly higher in the group of IF than in the group of Casein and $^1/{_2}IF$ at the ninth week after feeding. These results suggest that the group of IF with rich isoflavones supplementation was effective to the increase of BMD spine and femur in growing female rats, respectively.

Evaluation on Ruminant Feed Value of Cage Broiler Excreta Processed by a Deepstacking Method (퇴적발효한 케이지 육계생분의 반추동물 사료적 가치 평가)

  • This on­farm study was conducted to evaluate the effect of feeding deepstacked broiler excreta­saw dust­rice hulls(DBSR) pellets on feed intake, production and economy of growing Hanwoo steers and Holstein bulls. Formulated mix and rice straw were replaced at 16% and 48% levels for growing Hanwoo steers(6 wk of feeding period) and at 4% and 18% levels for Holstein bulls(12 wk) with DBSR pellets. Control and treated diets were formulated to be isoenergetic and DBSR pellets were fed ad libitum. Palatability of DBSR pellets turned out to be favorable. Compared with the control group, feeding DBSR pellets did not affect body weight gain, average daily gain and feed efficiency(P>0.05). Feed cost per gain was reduced by 18.5% for Hanwoo steers and 3.5% for Holstein bulls. Feeding DBSR pellets to Holstein bulls did not affect carcass weight and grades of meat yield and quality. These results indicate that deepstacked cage broiler excreta mixture may be effectively used as a feed ingredient for growing ruminants.

Eating Behaviour, VFA Production, Passage Rate and Nutrient Digestibilities in Cattle Fed on Wheat Straw Supplemented with Different Levels of Berseem

  • Four ruminally fistulated crossbred $(Sahiwal{\times}Holstein\;Friesan)$ adult (~6 yr.) cattle of about $318{\pm}16kg$ body weight were randomly assigned in an experiment based on $4{\times}4$ latin square design to study the effect of different level of barseem (Trifolium alexendrinum) supplementation to wheat straw based diet on intake, digestion, VFA production, eating behaviour and passage rate. Four dietary treatments were wheat straw ad lib. (I), supplementation to wheat either 15(II), 30(III) or 45(IV)% of berseem. Mean total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) concentration in rumen liquor was 58.45, 66.14, 77.92 and 78.64 mmol/l. TVFA concentration in rumen liquor increased significantly (p<0.01) with increased level of berseem supplementation upon 30% level of breseem. Two peaks of TVFA concentration was observed at 4 and 8 h post feeding. Brseem supplementation showed no significant effect on daily time spent for eating, ruminating or idling, chews per minute or number of rumination boli ingested per minute. Time spent for eating and ruminating one kg neutral detergent fibre (NDF) was significantly (p<0.05) less in breseem supplemented groups. Animals in groups I, II, III and IV consumed 26, 34, 47 and 57% of DM within 1st 4 h and 64, 70, 70 and 77% of total DM within 1st 8 h of offering. All the animals consumed more than 90% of their DMI within 12 h. Active period of rumination was observed 8h post feeding reached the peak at 16 h post feeding, then declined and animals spend considerable time idling in last 4 h of 24 h feeding cycle. Berseem supplementation showed no significant effect on eating and rumination time. It is concluded that berseem supplementation upon 30% increases the efficiency of chewing during eating and rumination, which results in increase intake and TVFA production and nutrient digestibility.

Growth rate, carcass characteristics and meat quality of growing lambs fed buckwheat or maize silage

  • Objective: This study evaluated inclusion of buckwheat silage to the diet of growing lambs in terms of meat quality as compared to maize silage. Methods: Buckwheat, rich in total phenols (TP, 33 g/kg dry matter [DM]), was harvested at the end of the milk stage and ensiled in 40 kg plastic bags after wilting (294 g/kg silage DM). A total of 18 growing lambs ($21.6{\pm}1.2$) were individually fed isonitrogenous and isoenergetic total mixed rations (TMR) for 75 d that either contained buckwheat or maize silage at DM proportions of 0.50. At the end of feeding trail all lambs were slaughtered to assess carcass characteristics and meat quality. Results: Buckwheat silage increased (p<0.01) the DM intake of lambs as compared to maize silage, but had no effects (p>0.05) on live weight gain and feed efficiency. Carcass weight, dressing percentage, meat pH, water holding capacity, cooking loss, shear force ($kg/cm^2$), and total viable bacteria count of meat did not differ (p>0.05) between the treatments. However, TP content of meat increased (p<0.001) by feeding buckwheat TMR. Feeding buckwheat TMR also decreased (p<0.05) the b* values of meat. Conclusion: The results provide that buckwheat silage is palatable and could successfully include TMR of growing lambs with no adverse effects on performance, carcass and meat quality. Additionally, feeding buckwheat silage to lambs offers increased TP in meat.

A Comparative Study on Interrelation between FDTD Source Models for Coaxial-Probe Feeding Structures (동축 프로브 급전구조에 대한 FDTD 전원 모델들의 상호 관계에 관한 비교 연구)

  • For an efficient finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) analysis of coaxial-probe feeding structures in radio frequency(RF) and microwave bands, an interrelation between equivalent source modeling techniques is investigated. In existing literature, equivalent source models with delta-gap or magnetic-frill concepts have been developed by many researchers. It is well known that FDTD implementation and computational accuracy of these source models are slightly different. In this paper, the interrelation between FDTD equivalent source models for coaxial feeding structures under the quasi-static approximation(QSA) is presented. As a function of FDTD equivalent source models, time-domain and frequency-domain responses of a coaxial-probe fed conical monopole antenna are calculated numerically. And comparison results of computational accuracy and efficiency are provided.

The Effects of Polymannuronate on Leptin in Serum and Liver of Rats (Polymannurongte가 흰쥐의 혈청과 간장조직중의 Leptin에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of polymannuronate feeding on cholesterol levels and leptin in the serum and liver of Sprague-Dawely rats. After one week of basal diet feeding, four week old S.D. male rats were fed with polymannuronate. The feeding efficiency of the polymannuronate fed group averaged around 0.27, which was 0.02-0.03 lower than that of the control group, and liver weight, also had a lower increase. The liver tissue tagging of rats by staining fat drops increased in the cholesterol fed group. RIA and RT-PCR were used to determine the expression of leptin in the serum and liver of rats. The polymannuronate fed group had a larger reduction in the serum and liver leptin than the cholesterol fed group. The RT-PCR results showed that leptin mRNA was expressed in the liver. The polymannuronate fed group had a larger reduction in liver leptin mRNA expression than the cholesterol fed group. The above results suggest that feeding of polymannuronate improves the physiological function of rats by changing serum and liver lipid composition and the expression of leptin was repressed at a molecular level.

Effects of a Commercial Extruded Pellet on Growth Performance and Water Quality in Growing Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus (육성기 넙치 배합사료의 성장 및 수질 평가)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of commercial extruded pellet (EP) diet on the growth and water quality compared with a raw fish moist pellet (MP) diet for flounder on field feeding experiments. Three replicate groups of 130 fish per each tank (initial weight of 380 g) were fed one of the EP and Moist pellet (MP) for 7 months. In field feeding experiment, no significant difference was observed in final mean weight of fish fed the experimental EP (1,233 g) and MP (1,237 g), and any noticeable problem caused by feeding the experimental EP was not found during the whole period of feeding trial. Feed efficiency of fish fed the experimental EP was higher than that of MP, and there was no significant difference in survival between the fish fed experimental EP and MP. The concentrations of SS, COD, TN and TP of seawater in tanks of MP groups were 1-5 times higher than those of EP groups. Therefore, these results strongly suggest that diet EP could be developed to replace MP diet for the marketable size of production for flounder without adverse effects on growth performance and water quality.
