The injection and spray characteristics of top-feed type injector was investigated under liquid phase injection fueled with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Different pressures and temperatures of fuel injection system were tested to identify the injection characteristics after hot soaking. MIE-scattering technique was used for verification of successful liquid phase injection after hot soaking. In case of bottom-feed type injector, the injection was accomplished at every experimental condition. In case of top-feed type injector, when the pressure of LPG was over 1.2 MPa, the injection was not executed. However, under the pressure were 1.2 MPa, the liquid phase injection after hot soaking was accomplished. The engine with top-feed type fuel injection equipment was restarted successfully after hot soaking.

The feed-water piping system constitutes a complex flow impedance network incorporating dynamic transfer characteristics which will amplify some pulsation frequencies. Understanding pressure pulsation waves for the feed-water recirculation piping system with cavitation problem of flow control valve is very important to prevent acoustic resonance. Feed water recirculation piping system is excited by potential sources of the shock pulse waves by cavitation of flow control valve. The pulsation becomes the source of structural vibration at the piping system. If it coincides with the natural frequency of the pipe system, excessive vibration results. High-level vibration due to the pressure pulsation affects the reliability of the plant piping system. This paper discusses the piping vibration due to the effect of shock pulsation by the cavitation of the flow control valves for the recirculation piping of feed-water pump system in combined cycle power plants.

Green water impact occurs frequently on offshore platform due to waves with a height greater relative to the freeboard of the structure. This phenomenon exerts a large impact load on the deck. In this paper, offshore platform models with green water protectors of various shapes were fixed to the center of a 3D wave tank to measure the impact pressure acting on the various points on deck and protectors. The impact pressure distribution differed depending on the protector shape, and various patterns of wave creeping up the protector were observed. The protector shape that exerted the lowest pressure impact on the deck will be useful in the deck design of offshore platform, and the model test results will be expected to be used for designers to select the best protector form.
In the spiral wound module of the pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO) system for the salinity gradient power generation, effects of the inlet pressure differences between feed-channel and draw-channel were studied. Fluxes of water and solute through membrane and power were estimated. The water flux through membrane decreased along the x-direction and increased along the y-direction with the increase of inlet pressure differences between two channels. On the other hand, the solute flux through membrane showed the opposite trend. The concentration of flow in the feed-channel increased a lot along the y-direction and that in the draw-channel decreased along the x-direction. In our system, for the inlet pressure differences of 1~11 atm, the flow rate in the feed-channel decreased about 8~13% and that in the draw-channel increased by the same amount. The power density increased and then decreased with the increasing inlet pressure difference.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of running time, operating pressure, feed concentration and circulation rate on the permeation flux and the rejection rate in cross-flow ultrafiltration of polyethylene glycol(PEG) solution of molecular weight($M_w$) 8000 and 20000. The membranes used for this study were MWCO(Molecular Weight Cut-off) of 6 K and 20 K. The experiments were performed at the operating pressures of 7, 14 and 28 psi, the circulation rates of 1000 mL/min and 2000 mL/min, and the feed concentration of 100 mg/L and 1000 mg/L. At a constant pressure, the permeation flux and the observed rejection($R_o$) appeared to be approximately constant within the range of running time, 0~480 min. The permeation flux increased with increasing the operating pressure, and it increased with decreasing the feed concentration and decreasing Mw of PEG at a given pressure. On the other hand, $R_o$ decreased slightly with increasing the operating pressure. However, $R_o$ increased with increasing the feed concentration and increasing of $M_w$ of PEG at a given pressure. The variation in circulation rates did not cause any significant influence on the permeation flux. Increasing of circulation rate caused the increase of $R_o$, and $\alpha$ was increased substantially with the decrease of $M_w$ of PEG. The dimensionless parameter. permeability ratio($\alpha$), which was used to investigate flux-pressure behavior, was increased with the increase in circulation rate and operating presure. The value of $\alpha$ was less than 1 in all cases. The estimated intrinsic rejection(R). which was obtained from mass transfer coefficient, was decreased with the increase of operating pressure. However R increased with the increase of linear velocity of feed and $M_w$ of PEG.

The reliable operation of a swing check valve in the main feed water system of a power plant is most essential for successful shout-down process. A failure to close the valve at proper time often leads to the instability of the main feed water system, or even to an emergency stop of the power plant. In reality it is a very difficult task to monitor the behavior of a swing check valve. Furthermore it is impossible to see the motion of the valve. In this work two measurements were carried out simultaneously to determine the precise valve closure time. The dynamic pressure measurements were made at the inlet and outlet regions of the swing check valve. The transient vibration of the valve housing in the direction of water flow was also measured, which enabled the measurement of the transient vibration of the valve housing near valve closure. By comparing the results produced from these measurements the precise valve closure time could be determined. By carrying out order tracking technique using the dynamic pressure signals and pump rpm signal, the complicated dynamic problems inside the main feed water system can be more easily dealt with. This measurement scheme might be implemented in a power plant on a real-time basis without much difficulty. If this could be implemented, valuable information essential for shut-down operations can readily be passed on to the main control room. The feasibility of this implementation was demonstrated by this experimental work.
The low frequency combustion instability phenomena generated by pressure drop oscillation such as propellant shake in feed line are studied. To generate the flowrate oscillation by the pressure pulsation up to 400Hz without flow discontinuities and cavitations, a hydrodynamic mechanical pulsator of rotating disk type was produced. Injection pressure conditions are 5, 7 and 9 bar and pressure fluctuation frequency conditions are 0, 4, 6 and 8 Hz. When the injection pressure was oscillated by a mechanical pulsator, the spray shape was pulsated regularly. During the pulsated state of the spray with a mechanical pulsator, the spray characteristics, such as spray angle and liquid film thickness in orifice exit, were measured and compared with those in steady state without a mechanical pulsator. Though the mean injection pressure was fixed in the steady and fluctuating state, there were some differences in all measured values, i.e. liquid film thickness and spray cone angle, between both states.
This paper suggested to revise unreasonable national fire safety codes of sprinkler system. Also proposed to modify the definition of "the gridded sprinkler system" and to add "the feed main" in terms of the definition of the pipes. In order to operate the regulations of discharge pressure of the sprinkler head efficiently, this paper checked the minimum criteria of pressure and flow for the pipe schedule sprinkler system of NFPA 13 and suggested to establish the similar minimum demand criteria. It proposed to be amended properly the pressure calculation formular in the pressure tank system and to use the correct K value due to change in pressure unit and to use the [bar] as a unit of pressure for the sake of using the existing K-factor etc.

The surface rolling method which is one of the plastic deformation processes increases the surface roughness and hardness of materials. In this study, three NACHI6000 ZZ bearing were used for surface rolling tool on the mild steel and high carbon steel. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of rolling speed, feed rate and contact pressure on the surface roughness. The following results have been obtained with the mild steel and high carbon steel. 1. The roller finishing method has increased surface roughness from 2.4 .mu.m Ra at initial ground surface to 0.17 .mu.m Ra-0.4 .mu.m Ra. 2. The contact pressure has influenced greatly on the surface roughness. There is an optimal contact pressure. 3. As the rolling speed and the feed rate decrease, the surface roughness improves. 4. The optimal contact pressure for the good surface roughness of SS40 and STC 3 has been at 213 Kgf/Cm$^{2}$ and 220 Kgf/Cm$^{2}$ respectively.
Characteristics of flow rate control has been studied for a cavitating venturi adopted in a liquid rocket propellant feed system. Numerical simulation has been peformed to give about $10\%$ discrepancy of mass flow rate to the experimental data for cavitating flow regime. Mass flow rate is confirmed to be saturated for pressure difference higher than $3\times10^5$pa when the upstream pressure is fixed to $22.8\times10^5$pa and the downstream pressure is varied. The evaporation amount depends substantially to non-condensable gas concentration. However the mass flow rate characteristic is relatively insensitive to the mass fraction of non-condensable gas. So it is reduced by only $2\%$ when the non- condensable gas concentration is increased from 1.5PPM to 150PPM. From the previous comparison the expansions of the non-condensable gas and the evaporation of liquid are verified to have same effect to pressure recovery.
