For the problem that the face image of surveillance video cannot be accurately identified due to the low resolution, this paper proposes a low resolution face recognition solution based on convolutional neural network model. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) model for multi-scale input The CNN model for multi-scale input is an improvement over the existing "two-step method" in which low-resolution images are up-sampled using a simple bi-cubic interpolation method. Then, the up sampled image and the high-resolution image are mixed as a model training sample. The CNN model learns the common feature space of the high- and low-resolution images, and then measures the feature similarity through the cosine distance. Finally, the recognition result is given. The experiments on the CMU PIE and Extended Yale B datasets show that the accuracy of the model is better than other comparison methods. Compared with the CMDA_BGE algorithm with the highest recognition rate, the accuracy rate is 2.5%~9.9%.
With a large feature space data, feature selection has become an extremely important procedure in the Data Mining process. But the traditional feature selection methods with single process may no longer fit for this procedure. In this paper, we proposed a hybrid efficient feature selection model for high dimensional data. We have applied our model on KNHNAES data set, the result shows that our model outperforms many existing methods in terms of accuracy over than at least 5%.
This study aims to develop a human activity recognition (HAR) system as a Deep-Learning (DL) classification model, distinguishing various human activities. We solely rely on the signals from a wristband accelerometer worn by a person for the user's convenience. 3-axis sequential acceleration signal data are gathered within a predefined time-window-slice, and they are used as input to the classification system. We are particularly interested in developing a Deep-Learning model that can outperform conventional machine learning classification performance. A total of 13 activities based on the laboratory experiments' data are used for the initial performance comparison. We have improved classification performance using the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) combined with an auto-encoder feature reduction and parameter tuning. With various publically available HAR datasets, we could also achieve significant improvement in HAR classification. Our CNN model is also compared against Recurrent-Neural-Network(RNN) with Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM) to demonstrate its superiority. Noticeably, our model could distinguish both general activities and near-identical activities such as sitting down on the chair and floor, with almost perfect classification accuracy.

The performance of deep learning-based malware detection and classification models depends largely on how to construct a feature set to be applied to training. In this paper, we propose an approach to select the optimal feature set to maximize detection performance for CNN-based Android malware detection. The features to be included in the feature set were selected through the Chi-Square test algorithm, which is widely used for feature selection in machine learning and deep learning. To validate the proposed approach, the CNN model was trained using 36 characteristics selected for the CICANDMAL2017 dataset and then the malware detection performance was measured. As a result, 99.99% of Accuracy was achieved in binary classification and 98.55% in multiclass classification.
This paper introduces a new model based method for facial expression recognition that uses facial grid angles as feature space. In order to be able to recognize the six main facial expression, proposed method uses a grid approach and therefore it establishes a new feature space based on the angles that each gird's edge and vertex form. The way taken in the paper is robust against several affine transformations such as translation, rotation, and scaling which in other approaches are considered very harmful in the overall accuracy of a facial expression recognition algorithm. Also, this paper demonstrates the process that the feature space is created using angles and how a selection process of feature subset within this space is applied with Wrapper approach. Selected features are classified by SVM, 3-NN classifier and classification results are validated with two-tier cross validation. Proposed method shows 94% classification result and feature selection algorithm improves results by up to 10% over the full set of feature.

In medium- and long-range optical imaging systems, atmospheric turbulence causes blurring and distortion of images, resulting in loss of image information. An image-restoration method based on an adaptive feature-fusion multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) dense U-shaped network (Unet) is proposed, to restore a single image degraded by atmospheric turbulence. The network's model is based on the MIMO-Unet framework and incorporates patch-embedding shallow-convolution modules. These modules help in extracting shallow features of images and facilitate the processing of the multi-input dense encoding modules that follow. The combination of these modules improves the model's ability to analyze and extract features effectively. An asymmetric feature-fusion module is utilized to combine encoded features at varying scales, facilitating the feature reconstruction of the subsequent multi-output decoding modules for restoration of turbulence-degraded images. Based on experimental results, the adaptive feature-fusion MIMO dense U-shaped network outperforms traditional restoration methods, CMFNet network models, and standard MIMO-Unet network models, in terms of image-quality restoration. It effectively minimizes geometric deformation and blurring of images.

In this paper, different frequency scales in cepstral feature extraction are evaluated for the text-independent speaker recognition. To this end, mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs), linear frequency cepstral coefficients (LFCCs), and bilinear warped frequency cepstral coefficients (BWFCCs) are applied to the speaker recognition experiment. In addition, the spectro-temporal features extracted by the cepstral-time matrix (CTM) are examined as an alternative to the delta and delta-delta features. Experiments on the NIST speaker recognition evaluation (SRE) 2004 task are carried out using the Gaussian mixture model-universal background model (GMM-UBM) method and the joint factor analysis (JFA) method, both based on the ALIZE 3.0 toolkit. Experimental results using both the methods show that BWFCC with appropriate warping factor yields better performance than MFCC and LFCC. It is also shown that the feature set including the spectro-temporal information based on the CTM outperforms the conventional feature set including the delta and delta-delta features.
The feature models representing the common and variable concepts among the software products and the feature configurations generated by selecting the features to be included in the target product are the essential components in the software product lines methodology. Although the researches on the formal semantics and reasoning of the feature models and feature configurations are in progress, the researches on feature model ontologies and feature configuration validation using the semantic web technologies are yet insufficient. This paper defines the formal semantics of the feature models and proposes a feature configuration validation technique based on ontology and semantic web technologies. OWL(Web Ontology Language), a semantic web standard language, is used to represent the knowledge in the feature models and the feature configurations. SWRL(Semantic Web Rule Language), a semantic web rule languages, is used to define the rules to validate the feature configurations. The approach in this paper provides the formal semantic of the feature models, automates the validation of feature configurations, and enables the application of various semantic web technologies, such as SQWRL.

In this paper, we propose a neural network model for speech recognition. The model consists of feature extraction parts and recognition parts. The interconnection model based on ${\Delta}^2$G operator was used for frequency analysis. Two features, global feature and local feature, were extracted from this model. Recognition parts consist of global grouping stage and local grouping stage. When the input pattern was coded by slope method, the recognition rate of speakers, A and B, was 100%. When the test was performed with the data of 9 speakers, the recognition rate of 91.4% was obtained.

In this paper, a novel method is proposed to build an ensemble of classifiers by using a feature selection schema. The feature selection schema identifies the best feature sets that affect the arrhythmia classification. Firstly, a number of feature subsets are extracted by applying the feature selection schema to the original dataset. Then classification models are built by using the each feature subset. Finally, we combine the classification models by adopting a voting approach to form a classification ensemble. The voting approach in our method involves both classification error rate and feature selection rate to calculate the score of the each classifier in the ensemble. In our method, the feature selection rate depends on the extracting order of the feature subsets. In the experiment, we applied our method to arrhythmia dataset and generated three top disjointed feature sets. We then built three classifiers based on the top-three feature subsets and formed the classifier ensemble by using the voting approach. Our method can improve the classification accuracy in high dimensional dataset. The performance of each classifier and the performance of their ensemble were higher than the performance of the classifier that was based on whole feature space of the dataset. The classification performance was improved and a more stable classification model could be constructed with the proposed approach.
