Twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steels have attracted great attention due to their excellent mechanical properties of high tensile strength (over 800MPa) and high ductility (over 50%), which result from the high strain hardening due to the mechanical twin formation during plastic deformation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of annealing temperature and alloying elements on the mechanical properties of Fe-18Mn-0.6C TWIP steel. In 1.5%Al TWIP steel with 0.123%Ti content, the average recrystallized grain size was reduced to 2.5 ${\mu}m$ by cold rolling and annealing at $800^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, because of the pinning effect of the fine TiC carbides on grain coarsening. The tensile strength was decreased and the ductility was improved with the increase of the annealing temperature. However, a reversion of hardness and yield strength happened between $750^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ due to TiC and $M_3C$ type precipitation. 0.56% Ni added TWIP steel exhibited relatively lower yield strength, because Ni precipitates were not formed during the annealing process. When this specimen was annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ for 5min, the tensile strength and elongation were revealed at 1096MPa and 61.8%, respectively.
Stainless steel, which includes Ni and Cr with Fe balance, is most often applied for a wide range of applications such as structure and equipment material. It is not only suitable for use in these applications due to its good corrosion resistance, but also can be applied to catalyst, supporting material, and current collector due to intrinsic properties of Ni and Fe contained in stainless steel. Therefore, in recent years, a lots of surface treatment methods have been studied to activate stainless steel, developing application of water splitting system. In this review paper, the research on the surface treatment technology of stainless steel for water splitting is summarized. It is expected to be able to propose the diverse surface treatment approaches of stainless steel for application to low-cost and highly efficient water splitting electrode.
This study has evaluated the dissimialr weldability of Incoloy 825 Ni base alloy with a mild steel(SS41). Further a compatibility study of wrveral Ni base filler metals with the dissimilar joint between the two alloys was also included. The dissimilar weldability of Incoloy 825 with mild steel is strongly dependent upon the type of the filler metal used. Among the filler metals, ENiCrFe which has a chemical comosition similar to that of Incoloy 825 was found to be most compatible to the joint. In addition, a filler metal which showed a good cracing resistance in one dissimiar alloy combination was not necessarily graranteed to other combination. Microstructural examination with SEM, TEM and Auger revealed that the solidification cracking resestance of the dissimilar joint. between Incoloy 835 and SS41 was closely with the Ti+Nb content and with the content of a low melting eutectic phase of Laves relatibve to that of MC type phase.
Co-application of organic coating and cathodic protection has not provided enough durability to low-alloyed steels inseawater ballast tank (SBT) environments. An attempt has made to study the effect of alloy elements (Al, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Si, W) on general and localized corrosion resistance of steels as basic research to develop new low-allowed steels resistive to corrosion in SBT environments. For this study, we measured the corrosion rate by the weigh loss method after periodic immersion in synthetic seawater at $60^{\circ}C$, evaluated the localized corrosion resistance by an immersion test in concentrated chloride solution with the critical pH depending on the alloy element (Fe, Cr, Al, Ni), determined the permeability of chloride ion across the rust layer by measuring the membrane potential, and finally, we analyzed the rust layer by EPMA mapping and compared the result with the E-pH diagram calculated in the study. The immersion test of up to 55 days in the synthetic seawater showed that chromium, aluminium, and nickel are beneficial but the other elements are detrimental to corrosion resistance. Among the beneficial elements, chromium and aluminium effectively decreased the corrosion rate of the steels during the initial immersion, while nickel effectively decreased the corrosion rate in a longer than 30-day immersion. The low corrosion rate of Cr- or Al-alloyed steel in the initial period was due to the formation of $Cr_2FeO_4$ or $Al_2FeO_4$, respectively -the predicted oxide in the E-pH diagram- which is known as a more protective oxide than $Fe_3O_4$. The increased corrosion rate of Cr-alloyed steels with alonger than 30-day exposure was due to low localized corrosion resistance, which is explained bythe effect of the alloying element on a critical pH. In the meantime, the low corrosion rate of Ni-alloyed steel with a longer than 30-day exposure wasdue to an Ni enriched layer containing $Fe_2NiO_4$, the predicted oxide in the E-pH diagram. Finally, the measurement of the membrane potential depending on the alloying element showed that a lower permeability of chloride ion does not always result in higher corrosion resistance in seawater.

In this study, the mechanical properties of boronized 316L austenitic stainless steel have been investigated. Boronizing was carried out in solid medium consisting of Ekabor powder at $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2, 4 and 8 hours, respectively. The properties of sample were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer, Glow discharge spectrometer, micro-hardness tester and ball-on-disk wear tester. Increasing the boronizing time and temperature, the hardness of boronized samples were shown over Hv 2000 and the thickness of boride layers were also increased linearly. XRD patterns of samples were revealed the presence of borides such as FeB, $Fe_2B$, CrB, $Cr_2B$ and $Ni_3B$. Friction coefficient of boronized STS 316L was shown the low value at $900^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours, respectively.
The alloying effect of a small amount of nickel on low alloy steel for application to flue gas desulfurization(FGD) systems was studied. The structural characteristics of the rust layer were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The electrochemical properties were examined by means of potentiostatic polarization test, potentiodynamic polarization test, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) in a modified green death solution of 16.9 vol.% $H_2SO_4$+0.35 vol.% HCl at $60^{\circ}C$ and an acid rain solution of $6.25{\times}10^{-5}M\;H_2SO_4+5.5{\times}10^{-3}M\;NaCl$ at room temperature. It was found that as the amount of nickel increased, the corrosion rate increased in the modified green death solution, which seemed to result from micro-galvanic corrosion between NiS and alloy matrix. In acid rain solution, the corrosion rate decreased as the amount of nickel increased due to the repulsive force of $NiFe_2O_4$ rust against $Cl^-$ ions by electronegativity.
We investigated to find the optimum operation condition of electrolysis which have an influence on removal efficiency of heavy metals. When we experimented the testing wastewaters containing each 250mg/L of Cu and Ni ions, we got the variables like as pH, amount of electrolyte(NaCl), different species of electrode, electrode gap, electric strength, the number of electrodes, after fastening positive electrode plate with Al, Fe, Ti and negative electrode plate with Stainless Steel plate.

The effect of intercritical annealing temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe-9Mn-0.2C-3Al-0.5Si medium manganese steels containing Cu and Ni is investigated in this study. Six kinds of medium manganese steels are fabricated by varying the chemical composition and intercritical annealing temperature. Hardness and tensile tests are performed to examine the correlation of microstructure and mechanical properties for the intercritical annealed medium manganese steels containing Cu and Ni. The microstructures of all the steels are composed mostly of lath ferrite, reverted austenite and cementite, regardless of annealing temperature. The room-temperature tensile test results show that the yield and tensile strengths decrease with increasing intercritical annealing temperature due to higher volume fraction and larger thickness of reverted austenite. On the other hand, total and uniform elongations, and strain hardening exponent increase due to higher dislocation density because transformation-induced plasticity is promoted with increasing annealing temperature by reduction in reverted austenite stability.
Recrystallization behaviors of ordered and disordered structures in $Ll_2$ type $Ni_3Fe$ alloy were studied through hardness measurement and differential thermal analysis. When the disordered structure was isothermally aged at $480^{\circ}C$ below order-disorder transition temperature, the hardness of the structure was increased due to progressive ordering with increasing aging time. The hardness of the disordered structure was increased rapidly with increasing deformation degree up to 10%, and then gradually increased with further deformation degree. while the hardness of the ordered structure was increased rapidly with increasing deformation degree up to 10%, showing a constant hardness value up to 50% and gradually decreased with further deformation degree. The hardness of the ordered structure was higher than that of the disordered structure at all same deformation degrees. The recrystallization temperature of the ordered and disordered structures were decreased with increasing deformation degree. At the same deformation degrees, the recrystallization temperature of the ordered structure was lower than that of the desordered structure.
