  • This pot experiment was conducted in order to find out the effects of application of combined micronutrients(T$_1$: control. T$_2$; Fe, T$_3$; Fe+Mn, T$_4$; Fe+Mn+Cu, T$_{5}$; Fe+Mn+Cu+Zn, T$_{6}$;Fe+Mn+Cu+Zn+Mo, T$_{7}$; Fe+Mn+Cu+Zn+Mo+B) on forage performance of pure and mixed cultures of orchardgrass and white clover The 2nd part was concerned with the changes in the forage yields and concurrence index. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The effects of combined micronutrient applications on the forage yields were different according to the forage species, whether it was a pure or mixed cultures, and additional fertilization(especially N). The effects of them on the forage productivity and botanical composition were more obvious in white clover, especially in mixed culture, than in orchardgrass. By the significant role of B as a regulator, the yields of both forages were best in the T$_{7}$, respectively. 2. In the pure culture, the high yields of both forages were obtained by the T$_{7}$ and T$_2$, whereas the T$_{6}$ and T$_3$resulted in the low yields. The best yields of both forages were obtained by the T$_{7}$ with relatively optimum ratios among the micronutrients as follows; Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn, Fe/Mo, Mo/B, and ∑ cation/∑anion. It was observed the multiple interaction of Fe${\times}$Mn${\times}$Mo${\times}$B, and the significant role of B as a regulator. The effects of them on white clover were more distinct at no additional fertilization than at the additional fertilization(especially N). 3. In mixed culture, the optimum applications of them resulted in the positive increase of yield and botanical composition of white clover, whereas orchardgrass tended to be inversely except the T$_{7}$.X> 7/. 7/.

  • We have studied local magnetization reversal and magnetic properties induced by Laser annealing method in the strip-patterned Ta/NiFe/FeMn/Ta and Ta/NiFe/FeMn/NiFe/Ta multilayers fabricated by ion-beam deposition. The films were exposed to the emission of the DPSS (Diode Pumped Solid State, Nd:YAG) laser under 600 G. The laser beam intensity increased up to 440 mW. When the laser illuminated the patterned film with the power of above 200 m W, the intensity of MR peak located in +87 Oe shrunk. A new MR peak was generated at -63 Oe. When the laser power is 400 mW, the location of positive MR peak(H$\sub$ex/) was changed slightly from +87 Oe to +76 Oe, and the MR ratio was decreased from 0.9% to 0.1 %. On the other hand, the new (negative) MR peak shifted from -63 Oe to -80 Oe, with the MR ratio increased up to 0.3%. As the illuminated area expanded, the intensity of opposite MR peak increased and it of negative MR peak decreased. This proved that the local reversal of exchange biasing should be realized by laser annealing.

  • The olivine structured $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ material was prepared by solid state method, and was analyzed by x-ray diffractometer (XRD), superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The crystal structure of $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ was determined to be orthorhombic (space group: Pnma) by Rietveld refinement method. The value of N$\acute{e}$el temperature ($T_N$) for $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ was determined 50 K. The temperature dependence of the magnetization curves showed magnetic phase transition from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic at $T_N$ by SQUID measurement. M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra of $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ showed 2 absorption lines at temperatures above $T_N$ and showed asymmetric 8 absorption lines at temperatures below $T_N$. These spectra occurred due to the magnetic dipole and electric quardrupole interaction caused by strong crystalline field at asymmetric $FeO_6$ octahedral sites.

  • The magnetic thin films can be prepared without vacuum process and under the low temperature ( < $100^{\circ}C$) by ferrite plating. We have performed ferrite plating of $Fe_{3-x}Mn_{x}O_4(x=0.0~0.023)$ films on glass plate at $80^{\circ}C$. We got the film $9000\AA$ in thickness, having a mirror-like luster. The composition parameter, x, in the $Fe_{3-x}Mn_{x}O_4$ films is much smaller then the corresponding on, x', in the reaction solution(x/x'=O.04). The saturation magnetization($M_{s}$) of $Fe_{3}O_{4}$ ferrite film as measured by a VSM was $M_{s}$=480 emu/cc which agrees with $Fe_{3}O_{4}$ bulk samples.

  • The oscillatory interlayer exchange coupling (IEC) has been shown in pinned $[CoFe/Pt(t_{pt})/CoFe]/IrMn$ multi-layers with perpendicular anisotropy. The period of oscillation corresponds to about 2 monolayers of Pt. The oscillatory behavior of IEC depending on the nonmagnetic metallic Pt thickness is thought to be related the antiferromagnetic ordering induced by IrMn layer. Oscillatory IEC as function of insulating NiO thickness has been observed in $[Pt/CoFe]_4/NiO(t_{NiO})/[CoFe/Pt]_4$ multilayers. The effect of N (number of bilayer repeats) upon the magnetic property of [Pt/CoFe]N/IrMn is also studied.

  • Coventional methods for reducing vibration in engineering designs (i.e. by stifferning or detuning) may be undesirable in conditions where size or weight must be minimized, or where complex vibration spectra exist. Some alloys with a combination of high damping capacity and good mechanical properties can provide attractive techanical and economical solutions to problems involving seismic, shock and vibration isolation. Although several non ferrous damping alloys have been developed, none of those materials are applied in any industrial factor due largely to high production cost. To meet these requirement, we have developed a new Fe-Mn high damping alloy. In previous studies, we have reported that an Fe-17%Mn alloy exhibits the highest damping capacity(Specific Damping Capacity:SDC, 30%) among Fe-Mn binary system, and proposed that the boundaries of various types such as $\varepsilon$-martensite variant boundaries, stacking faults in $\varepsilon$-martensite, stacking faults in austenitic and ${\gamma}$$\gamma /\varepsilon$ interfaces give rise to a high damping capacity. The Fe-17%Mn alloy also has advantages of good mechanical properties(T.S. 70 kg/nm$^2$ and low cost over other damping alloys(1/4 times the cost of non-ferrous damping alloy). Thus, the Fe-17%Mn high damping alloy can be widely applied to household appliances, automobiles, industrial facilities and power plant components. In this paper, the overall properties of the Fe-17%Mn high damping alloy is introduced, and its applicability to containment spray pump in the power plant is discussed.

  • Sequential extraction was carried out on twenty two subsamples of three ferromanganese crusts from three seamounts (Lemkein, Lomilik, and Litakpooki) near the Marshall Islands in the western Pacific. The extraction was designed to fractionate Fe-Mn crust forming elements into low defined groups: (1) exchangeable and carbornate, (2) Mn-oxide, (3) Fe-oxyhyd.oxide, and (4) residual fraction. X-ray diffraction result shows that target material were well removed by each extraction step except for CFA in phosphatized crusts generation. According to chemical analysis of each leachate, most of elements in the Fe-Mn crusts are bound with two major phases. Mn, Ba, Co, Ni, Zn, (Fe, Sr, Cu, and V) are strongly bounded with Mn-oxide $({\delta}-MnO_2)$ phase, whereas Fe, Ti, Zr, Mo, Pb, Al, Cu,(V, P, and Zn) show chemical affinity with Fe-oxyhydroxide phase. This result indicates that significant amount of Al, Ti, and Zr can not be explained by detrital origin. Ca, Mg, K, and Sr mainly occur as exchangeable elements and/or carbonate phase. Outermost layer 1 and inner layer 2 which are both young crusts generations are similar in chemical speciations of elements. However, some of Fe-oxyhydroxide bounded elements (Pb, Y, Mo, Ba, Al, and V) in phosphatized innermost layer 3 are released during phosphatization and incorporated into phosphate (Pb, Y, Mo, and Ba) or Mn-oxide phase (Al and V). Our sequential extraction results reveal that chemical speciations of elements in the hydrogenetic crusts are more or less different from interelemental relationship calculated by statistical method based on bulk chemistry.
