  • The samples were synthesized by using a solid state reaction. The X-ray diffraction pattern for $Ti_{0.96}Co_{0.02}Fe_{0.02}O_2$ showed a pure rutile phase with tetragonal structures. Mixtures of the proper proportions of the elements sealed in evacuated quartz ampoule were heated at $870{\sim}930^{\circ}C$ for one day and then slowly cooled down to room temperature at a rate of $10^{\circ}C/h$. In order to obtain single phase material, it was necessary to grind the sample after the first firing and to press the powders into pellets before annealing them for a second time in evacuated and sealed quartz ampoule. Magnetic properties have been investigated using the vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM). Room temperature magnetic hysteresis(M-H) curve showed an obvious ferromagnetic behavior and the magnetic moment per Fe atom under the applied of 0.8T was estimated to be about $1.3{\mu}_B/CoFe$. But the magnetic moment per Fe atom under the applied of 0.8T was estimated to be about $0.02{\mu}_B/CoFe$ without Ti-getter.

  • Fe doped skutterudite $CoSb_3$ with a nominal composition of $Fe_xCo_{1-x}Sb_{12}(0{\leq}x{\leq}2.5)$ have been synthesized by mechanical alloying (MA) of elemental powders, followed by vacuum hot pressing. Phase transformations during mechanical alloying and vacuum hot pressing were systematically investigated using XRD. Single phase skutterudite was successfully produced by vacuum hot pressing using as-milled powders without subsequent annealing. However, second phase of $FeSb_2$ was found to exist in case of $x\geq2$, suggesting the solubility limit of Fe with Co in this system. Thermoelectric properties as functions of temperature and Fe contents were evaluated for the hot pressed specimens. Fe doping up to x=1.5 with Co in $Fe_xCo_{4-x}Sb_{12}$ appeared to increase thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) and the maximum ZT was found to be 0.78 at 525K in this study.

  • The magnetic and thermal properties of NiFe/[IrMn-Mn]/CoFe with Mn additions have been studied. As-deposited CoFe pinned layers with [IrMn-Mn]layer had dominantly larger exchange biasing field ( $H_{ex}$) and blocking temperature ( $T_{b}$) than those with pure I $r_{22}$M $n_{78}$ used. The $H_{ex}$ and $T_{b}$ improved with 76.8-78.1 vol% Mn, but those of the NiFe/IrMn/CoFe dropped considerably with more addition of 0.6 vol % Mn. The average x-ray diffraction peak ratios of fcc [(111)CoFe, NiFe]/(111)IrM $n_3$ textures for the Mn inserted total vol of 75.5, 77.5, and 79.3% were about 1.4, 0.8, and 0.6, respectively. For the sample without Mn inserted layer, the $H_{ex}$ between IrMn and CoFe layers was almost zero, but it increased to 100 Oe after annealing of 250 $^{\circ}C$. For as-grown two multilayers samples with ultra-thin Mn layers of 77.5 and 78.7 vol %, the $H_{ex}$s were 259 and 150 Oe, respectively. In case of IrMn with 77.5 vol% Mn, the $H_{ex}$ was increased up to 475 Oe at 350 $^{\circ}C$ but decreased to 200 Oe at 450 $^{\circ}C$, respectively. The magnetic properties and thermal stabilities of NiFe/[IrMn-Mn]/CoFe multilayer were enhanced with Mn additions. In applications where higher $H_{ex}$ and $T_{b}$ are required, proper contents of Mn can be used. be used. used.

  • The saturation magnetization and uniaxial anisotropy constant were obtained from magnetization and torque curves measurement in high resistive CoFeHfO thin film. The measured results were used for the analysis of the microwave complex permeability based on Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) theory. The high resistive CoFeHfO thin films showed very low damping constants of ${\alpha}$ = 0.014. The results are interpreted in terms of various magnetic phase with very low damping constant, which were existing inside the CoFeHfO thin film, through the linewidth analysis of the ferromagnetic resonance signal with magnetic field.

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Fe-Ni and Co-Fe-Ni compacts was investigated. Pin-on-disk wear tests were performed on the sintered Fe-Ni, Co-Fe-Ni disk specimens against alumina $(Al_2O_3)$ and silica $(SiO_2)$ ball counterparts at various loads ranging from 3N to 12N. A constant sliding speed of 0.1m/sec was employed. Wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss measured after the test by specific gravity and sliding distance. Worn surfaces and cross sections of them were examined by a scanning electron microscopy, and wear mechanism of the compacts was investigated. Wear characteristics of the compacts were discussed as a function of composition of the compacts. Relationship between the wear rate and mechancial properties of the compact was explored, and effects of the oxide layer that was formed on wearing surface of the compacts on the wear were also studied.

  • CoFeNi alloys are some of the most studied soft magnetic materials because of their superial properties over FeNi alloys as write head core materials in HDD and MEMS. We studied the effect of magnetic property according to size and orientation of crystal for electroplated Co-Fe-Ni alleys. In case of heat treated ternary alloy, it affect the change of crystal size and structure. In this study, it intends to improve the magnetic properties of CoFeNi thin film by heat treatment. Minimized coercivity and increased magnetization are due to heat treatment from $300^{\circ}C\;to\;400^{\circ}C$. As a bcc phase formation, it grow to amount of magnetization.

  • The magnetoresistance (MR) and the saturation field behavior of the CoFe-Ag nano granular films as a function of the ferromagnetic underlayer and overlayer materials were investigated. The maximum MR ratio of 25.7 % and the saturation field of 2.1 kOe in the as-deposited 3000 $\AA$ $(Co_{92}Fe_8)_{31}Ag_{69}$ single alloy films at room temperature were obtained. The MR ratio and the saturation field of the 100 $\AA$ alloy film were 1.2 % and 5.2 kOe, respectively. Those of the sandwiched alloy films of 200 $\AA$ thick with the Fe under and overlayer of 100 $\AA$ were 11 % and 1.8 kOe respectively. The reduction of saturation field in the sandwiched alloy films is due to the exchange coupling between the ferromagnetic layers and the alloy layer. Among the Fe and FeNi, the more effective materials to reduce the saturation field of the sandwiched alloy films was Fe.

The structural and magnetic properties have been investigated by XRD, SEM, VSM and $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ powder that was annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ has spinel structure and behaved superparamagnetically. The estimated size of superparammagnetic $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle is around 10 nm. The hyperfine fields at 4.2 K f3r the A and B patterns were found to be 518 and 486 kOe, respectively. The blocking temperature $(T_B)$ of superparammagnetic $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle is about 250 K. The magnetic anisotropy constant of $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle was calculated to be $3.0X10^5\;ergs/cm^3$. $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle was annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ will be used to candidate for biomedicine applications as magnetic carriers.
