M type hexa-ferrites were prepared by means of a solid state reaction using mill scale, $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, and the mixture of mill scale and $Fe_{2}O_{3}$. The mixture of powders were calcined at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. and sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, with varing the mole ratio of $Fe_{2}O_{3}$/$BaCO_{3}$, by 5.2~6.0. And the magnetic properties and morphologies of Baferrites with impurities such as $SiO_{2},\;Al_{2}O_{3},\;MgO,\;CaO\;and\;Na_{2}O$ in the mill scale were investigated. The magnetic properties were worsened by the addition of $Na_{2}O because of non-reacted iron oxide and intermediate compound of $BaFe_{2}O_{4}$ but they were improved apparently by the addition of $Si_{2}$ and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in the composition of $BaO.5.6Fe_{2}O_{3}$. Moreover, $M_{s}$ decreased but $_{B}H_{C}$ increased through the addition of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in Ba-ferrite. ${(BH)}_{max}$ of sintered BM($BaCO_{3}$, mill scale mixture) and BFM($BaCO_{3}$, $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, and null scale mixture) were 0.86 and 1.04 MGOe, respectively, and the magnetic properties were changed around $440^{\circ}C$.

The relationship between oxidation and sliding wear behavior of Fe-28 at%. Al alloys with B2 ordered structure has been investigated. Sliding wear tests of the alloys have been carried out under various environmental conditions using a pin-on-disk wear tester. The wear rate of the ordered alloys in an oxygen atmoshpere was found to be much lower than in an oxygen atmosphere showed that Fe2O oxides formed on the wearing surface. The oxide layer prevented direct contact of the two mating materials and therefore improved wear resistance of the Fe-Al intermetallic alloy. It was found that the surface Al2O3 oxide layer which provides good oxidation resistance and improved mechanical properties broke down easily and didnot function properly as an oxidation barrier.

To understand the effect of Fe on the oxidation behavior of TiAl alloys, TiAl-(2, 4, 6at% )Fe were oxidized at 800 and 90$0^{\circ}C$ in air. The oxidation resistance of TiAl-Fe alloys increased with increasing an iron content. The scales formed consisted of an outer $TiO_2$ layer, an intermediate $A1_2$$O_3$ layer, and an inner mixed ($TiO_2$+$A1_2$$O_3$) layer, being similar to other common TiAl alloys. But, the scales formed on TiAl-Fe alloys were generally thin compared to those formed on pure TiAl, and contained dissolved iron. Below the oxide scale, an oxygen affected zone was formed. This beneficial effects of Fe on increasing the oxidation resistance and scale adherence of TiAl alloys were attributed to the refinement of oxide grains, increased scale adherence and the enhanced alumina-forming tendency.
${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films on $Al_2O_3$ substrate were prepared by the oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ thin films processed by PECVD(Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) technique. The phase transformation of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films was mainly controlled by the substrate temperature and oxidation process of $Fe_3O_4$ phase. $Fe_3O_4$ phase was obtained at the deposition temperature of $200{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ phase could be transformed into ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ phase under controlled oxidation at $280{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ and ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ obtained by oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ phase had the same spinel structure and were coexisted. The oxidized ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin film on $Al_2O_3$ substrate showed a porous island structure.

Piezoceramic filters were fabricated by adding $MnO_2 and FeZ0_3$ to the $0.05Pb(Al_{2/3}W_{1/3})O_3-0.95Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti0.48)O_3$ system using photolithography method. As the amounts of $MnO_2$ increased, the electro-mechanical coupling factor(Kp) decresed. On the other hand, for $Fe_2O_3$ added samples, Kp was 57%, but mechanical quality factor(Qm) showed relatively low value. The passband widths were 155kHz for 0.3wt % $MnO_2$ addition and 260kHz for 0.1 wt % $Fe_2O_3$ addition, and were inversely propotional to Qm values. Group delay time characteristics showed Gausian for $MnO_2$ additions and Butterworth for$Fe_2O_3$ additions.
A new High Frequency Induction Heating (HFIH) process has been developed to fabricate dense $Al_2O_3$ reinforced with Fe-Ni magnetic metal dispersion particles. The process is based on the reduction of metal oxide particles immediately prior to sintering. The synthesized $Al_2O_3$/Fe-Ni nanocomposite powders were formed directly from the selective reduction of metal oxide powders, such as NiO and $Fe_2O_3$. Dense $Al_2O_3$/Fe-Ni nanocomposite was fabricated using the HFIH method with an extremely high heating rate of $2000^{\circ}C/min$. Phase identification and microstructure of nanocomposite powders and sintered specimens were determined by X-ray diffraction and SEM and TEM, respectively. Vickers hardness experiment were performed to investigate the mechanical properties of the $Al_2O_3$/Fe-Ni nanocomposite.
The dependence of CoFe interfacial layer thickness and plasma oxidation condition on tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) in Ta/NiFe/FeMn/NiFe/Al$_2$O$_3$/NiFe/Ta tunnel junctions was investigated. As the CoFe layer thickness increases, TMR ratio rapidly increases to 13.7 % and decreases with further increase of the CoFe layer thickness. The increase of TMR with the CoFe thickness up to 25 was thought to be due mails to the high spin-polarization of CoFe. The maximum MR of 15.3% was obtained in the Si(100)/Ta(50 )/NiFe(60 )/FeMn(250 )/NiFe(70 )/Al$_2$O$_3$/NiFe(150 )/Ta(50 ) magnetic tunnel junction with a 16 Al oxidized for 40 sec using a Ar/O$_2$ (1:4) mixture gas.
The contents of soil organic matter (SOM) and $Al_o+1/2Fe_o$ in soils are important criteria for the classification of new Andisols in Soil Taxonomy system. There are many soil types in Jeju Island with various soil forming environments. This paper was conducted to estimate the contents of soil organic matter and the content of ammonium oxalate extracted Al and Fe ($Al_o+1/2Fe_o$) using various environmental variables and to make soil property maps using a statistical analyses. The soil samples were collected from 321 locations and analyzed to measure the contents of SOM and $Al_o+1/2Fe_o$. It was analyzed the relationships among them and various environmental variables such as temperature, precipitation, net primary product, radiation, evapotranspiration, altitude, soil forming energy, topographic wetness index, elevation, difference surrounded area, and distances from the shore and the peak. We can exclude multi-collinearity among environmental variables with principal component analysis and reduce all the variables to 3 principal components. The contents of SOM and $Al_o+1/2Fe_o$ were estimated by multiple regression models and maps of them were made using the models.
Spent refractories from a coal gasifier after 1000 hours of operation were analyzed for crystalline phases, chemical composition and microstructures as a function of slag penetration depth, and the slag corrosion mechanism was determined. The chemical corrosion of chromia refractory occurred via reaction between Cr$_2$O$_3$ of the refractory and FeO and A1$_2$O$_3$ in the slag. The FeO reacted with Cr$_2$O$_3$ at the slare/refractory interface and formed FeCr$_2$O$_4$. After all FeO were consumed, Al in the penetrating slag substituted Cr in Cr$_2$O$_3$, forming (Al, Cr)$_2$O$_3$, at the edges of the particle, which were broken to form fragments rich in Al. The corrosion resistance of Cr$_2$O$_3$ varied with the particle size and the extent of sintering, and the higher resistance was observed in the larger and more sintered particles. There was no chemical change in ZrO$_2$, but showed the effects of physical corrosion: the grain boundaries became more wavy, and ZrO$_2$ grains were split in the corroded area. The slag penetration depth increased in the refractory samples farther down from the feed nozzles.

To study the effects of chemical composition on the fusion temperatures of coal ashes, the chemical composition, mineral matter, and fusion temperature were studied with 54 kinds of coal ash samples including Korean anthracite coals. CaO, MgO and $Fe_2O_3$ were observed to be major fluxing elements in reducing and oxidizing atmosphere. The fluxing effect of $Fe_2O_3$ was increased more in reducing atmosphere. In a base/acid ratio, the fusion temperature decreased with increasing amounts of basic components. Nevertheless, the correlation between a fusion temperature and base/acid ratio was not shown well in a higher ratio of $Fe_2O_3/CaO$. The differences of fusion temperatures between oxidizing and reducing atmosphere showed close relationship with $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio rather than with $Fe_2O_3$ contents. Multiple regression was used to predict the fusion temperature of coal ashes, and it was established that the major predictors in oxidizing atmosphere were Base/Acid, $Fe_2O_3/CaO$, $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$, and $(SiO_2/A1_2O_3){\cdot}(Base/Acid)$ and Base/Acid, $Fe_2O_3/CaO$, $SiO_2$, and $TiO_2$ were major ones in reducing atmosphere.
