Effect of Synthesis Temperature on the Composition of Electrolytic Iron Phosphide

  • In this study, we investigated the composition of an electrolytic Fe phosphide at different synthesis temperatures. We found that the ratio of Fe in the electrodeposit increases with synthesis temperature, whereas the oxygen content introduced into the electrodeposit by the atmospheric oxidation of Fe decreases. The aim of this study was to identify the reason for this effect. For this purpose, the ratio of Fe and P in the electrodeposits prepared at different temperatures was analyzed in depth. In addition, the types and ratios of Fe phosphide phases were considered. It was proved that with increase in temperature, a significant amount of Fe reacted with P to form Fe phosphide phases, and consequently, the amount of residual pure Fe that would react directly with oxygen decreased.

  • Characteristics of cavitation erosion resistance of Fe-20Cr-1Si-1C-xMn(x=0, 5, 15) alloys were investigated by SEM and XRD analysis. The effects on strain-induced transformations were considerably reduced with increasing the amounts of Mn due to twining that occurred at 5, 15Mn alloys, activating cavitation erosion rates(mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) which varied as 0.055, 0.114 and 0.160mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 0, 5, 15Mn. From the results, it was found that the addition of Mn element in Fe-base alloy provides more cracking sites at twins rather than absorbing strain energies, so accelerates cavitation erosion rates.

Si, Pt이 첨가된 Fe-Cr 합금의 고온 용융염에서의 부식 (Hot Corrosion of Fe-Cr-Si and Fe-Cr-Pt alloys in Molten Salts.)

  • Cyclic hot corrosion studies have been carried out on(82~94) wt. % Fe-(5, 10, 15) wt. % Cr alloys con-taining either (1, 3)wt. % of Si or Pt as minor alloying elements in molten salts of($Na_2SO_4$+NaCl) between 820 and $920^{\circ}C$. Si or Pt decreased corrosion rate with the most pronounced effect being observed for alloys having 15wt. %Cr. Especially, as Si or Pt contents are increased from 1 to 3 wt. %, improved corrosion resistance was obtained. The beneficial effect of Si addition is due to the presence of the Si-rich second phase along the grain boundaries as well as the formation of the protective $SiO_2$layer between substrates and oxide scale. The Pt addition also increased the corrosion resistance by enhancing the formation ($Cr_2O_3$+layers and by increasing the adherence of the oxide scale.

저열팽창성 Fe-29%Ni-17%Co 코바 합금의 고온 변형 거동에 미치는 B 첨가의 영향 (The Effect of B addition on the High Temperature Behavior of Low Thermal Expansion Fe-29%Ni-17%Co Kovar Alloy)

  • The effect of B on the hot ductility of Fe-29Ni-17Co Kovar alloy and the mechanism of high temperature deformation behavior were investigated. Hot-tensile test was carried out at the temperature range of $900^{\circ}C-1200^{\circ}C$. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the microstructure and fracture during hot deformation. The hot ductility of Kovar alloy was drastically increased with the addition of Boron. The improvement of hot ductility results from the grain boundary migration mainly due to the dynamic recrystallization at lower temperature range($900^{\circ}C$).

천이금속산화물이 첨가된 YSZ 복합체의 제조 및 그 특성 (Fabrication and Its Characteristics of YSZ Composite with Added Transition Metal Oxides)

  • 금속산화물 Al₂O₃, CoO, Fe₂O₃ 및 MnO₂를 이트리아 안정화 지르코니아(YSZ)에 첨가하여 전기적, 기계적 그리고 소결성에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 정방정에서 단사정으로의 상전이비가 각 첨가물을 8wt% 까지 첨가함에 따라 변화됨을 볼 수 있었고, 소결 밀도는 첨가물량이 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 파괴인성은 상전이비가 약 18%에서 최대가 되었다. YSZ의 전기전도도는 CoO, Fe₂O₃, 및 MnO₂의 첨가량이 1.5wt%까지 첨가될 때 증가하였다. 그러나 Al₂O₃의 첨가는 YSZ의 전기전도도에 영향이 없었다. 복합첨가의 경우 파괴인성 및 경도에 다소 복잡한 경향을 보였는데, 복합조성 1.5wt%-Fe₂O₃, 3.0wt%-Al₂O₃, 그리고 1.5wt%-CoO 에서 상전이비가 18%, 파괴인성 10.8 MPa·m/sup 1/2/이라는 최고의 값과 경도 1201 kgf/mm² 값을 얻을 수 가 있었다.

Fe계 Fischer-Tropsch 반응에서 촉매활성에 대한 Cu와 K의 첨가 효과 (Effects of Cu and K Addition on Catalytic Activity for Fe-based Fischer-Tropsch Reaction)

  • 본 연구에서는 Fischer-Tropsch 반응에서 Fe계 촉매의 환원조건과 Cu, K의 첨가에 대한 영향을 연속흐름 반응기를 통하여 살펴보았다. 반응을 위해 촉매는 균일상 침전에 의한 초기 습식함침법으로 제조하였으며 XRD, TPR, SEM 등의 기기를 통해 $Al_2O_3$에 담지 된 Fe 촉매에 대한 물리화학적 특성을 분석하였다. 216 h의 장시간 반응운전을 통해 Fe/Cu/K 촉매의 활성과 안정성에 대하여 조사하였다. $H_2$와 CO의 혼합물로 촉매를 환원시키면 촉매의 활성이 향상되었는데, 이는 촉매의 표면에 iron carbides가 형성되기 때문인 것으로 XRD 분석을 통해 확인되었다. 촉매에 Cu가 첨가되면 촉매의 환원성 향상으로 인하여 반응이 빠르게 안정되어 정상상태에 일찍 도달하였다. K를 첨가하게 되면 CO의 전화율은 향상되지만 함량을 5%까지 올리면 촉매의 물리적 안정성이 감소되었다. Fe/Cu (5%)/K (1%) 촉매로 Fischer-Tropsch 반응을 수행한 결과 120 h 이후에 약 15% 정도 CO의 전화율이 감소되었으나 장기간 안정된 반응을 수행할 수 있었다.

Mill Scale을 이용한 M형 Ferrite의 합성 (Preparation of M Type Hexa-Ferrite Using the Mill Scale)

  • 제철소의 부산물인 mill scale과 $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, 그리고 이들의 혼합물을 사용하여 M형 ferrite를 제조하였다. $Fe_{2}O_{3}$$BaCO_{3}$의 몰비를 5.2~6.0으로 변화시킨 혼합물의 하소 및 소결은 각각 $1150^{\circ}C,\;1250^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 행하였으며, 하소시에 mill scale 중의 불순물 성분인 $SiO_{2},\;Al_{2}O_{3},\;MgO,\;CaO\;및\;Na_{2}O$를 적당량 첨가한 시편으로 자기적 특성과 형상을 조사하였다. $Na_{2}O$를 첨가한 시편은 미반응의 $Fe_{2}O_{3}$와 중간 화합물인 $BaFe_{2}O_{4}$의 영향으로 자기적 특성이 감소하였으나, $BaO.5.6Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 조성에 $SiO_{2}$$Al_{2}O_{3}$의 첨가는 특성의 증진을 보였으며, 특히 $Al_{2}O_{3}$$M_{s}$ 값은 감소시켰으나 $_{B}H_{c}$ 값을 증가시켰다. BM($BaCo_{3}$와 mill scale의 혼합물)과 BFM($BaCO_{3},\;Fe_{2}O_{3}$, mill scale의 혼합물) 소결 시편의 ${(BH)}_{max}$는 각각 0.86, 1.04 MGOe였으며, $440^{\circ}C$ 부근에서 자기 특성의 변화를 보였다.

  • The changes in the microstructures and $D0_3{\leftrightarrow}B2$ transition temperature were investigated for Fe-30at.%AI-5at.%Cr alloy with the ordered $D0_3$, structure when Ti, Hf and Zr were added respectively. The addition of Cr has no effect on the microstructure. However, as the amount of Ti addition increased, the grain size became smaller. Addition of Ti+Hf, Ti+Zr and Ti+Hf+Zr also showed the similar effect. When 20at.% of Ti was added, the second phase precipitates on the substrate. The addition of Cr, Hf and Zr alone has no effect on $D0_3{\leftrightarrow}B2$ transition temperature. However, as the amount of Ti addition increased by 5, 10, 15 and 20at.%, the transition temperatures showed 929, 930, 960 and $930^{\circ}C$ respectively.

Oxidation Behavior of $Ni_xFe_{1-x}(OH)_2$ in $C\Gamma$-containing Solutions

  • The addition of Ni leads to the formation of protective rust layer on steel and subsequently high corrosion resistance of steel in $Cl^-$-containing environment. $\alpha$-FeOOH, $\beta$-FeOOH, $\gamma$-FeOOH and $Fe_3O_4$ are formed mainly on steels exposed to $Cl^-$-containing environment. As the first work of this kind, this study reports the influence of Ni on the oxidation behavior of $Ni_xFe_{1-x}(OH)_2$ in $Cl^-$-containing solution at two different pH regions(condition I under which the solution pH is allowed to decrease and condition I under which solution pH is maintained at 8) where $\gamma$-FeOOH and $Fe_3O_4$ are predominantly formed, respectively, upon oxidation of $Fe(OH)_2$, In the presence of Ni(II) in the starting solution, the formation of $\beta$-FeOOH was facilitated and the formation of $\gamma$-FeOOH was suppressed with increasing Ni(II) content and with increasing oxidation rate of Fe(II). Ni(II) was found to have $Fe_3O_4$-suppressing effect under condition II.
