This thesis investigates an expert system(ES) to propose fault restoration plan by utilizing tree search strategies. In order to cope with an extensive amount of data and frequent breaker switching operations in distribution systems, the database of system configuration is constructed by using binary trees. This remarkably enhances the efficiency of search algorithm and makes the proposed ES easily adaptable to system changes due to switching operations. The rule-base is established to fully utilize the meris of tree-structured database. The inferring strategy is developed mainly based on the best-first search algorithm to increase computation efficiency. The proposed ES has been implemented to efficiently deal with large distribution systems by reducing computational burden remarkably compared with the conventional ES's.
The condition assessment of engineering systems has increased in importance because the manpower needed to operate and supervise various plants has been reduced. Especially, induction motors are at the core of most engineering processes, and there is an indispensable need to monitor their health and performance. So detection and diagnosis of motor faults is a base to improve efficiency of the industrial plant. In this paper, a model-based fault detection system is developed for induction motors, using steady state vibration signals. Early various fault detection systems using vibration signals are a trivial method and those methods are prone to have missed fault or false alarms. The suggested motor fault detection system was developed using a model-based reference value. The stationary signal had been extracted from the non-stationary signal using a data segmentation method. The signal processing method applied in this research is FFT. A reference model with spectra signal is developed and then the residuals of the vibration signal are generated. The ratio of RMS values of vibration residuals is proposed as a fault indicator for detecting faults. The developed fault detection system is tested on 800 hp motor and it is shown to be effective for detecting faults in the air-gap eccentricities and broken rotor bars. The suggested system is shown to be effective for reducing missed faults and false alarms. Moreover, the suggested system has advantages in the automation of fault detection algorithms in a random signal system, and the reference model is not complicated.
This paper presents a lecture note of pu method for power system analysis. The author tries to help students in class better understand the fundamental of pu calculation using a very simple DC circuit. And a voltage drop calculation by pu method for a distribution system is given to help understand the importance of the vector reference in AC circuit analysis. A short current calculation by pu method for a power system with a generator, transformer and transmission line is also presented to show how pu calculation can be applied to real power systems, in which all the data are the ones currently being used by KEPCO and other industrial sites.
Since power systems tend to be more large and complex, expert system substituted for the decision-making achieved by the power system operation expert is required. So far, expert system has been used for fault diagonosis and voltage-reactive power control and so on. In the expert system developed using 'C' language, the faulted element is estimated using the AND operation of lists which are acquired from the information on operated relays. It is also considered to identify the misoperation of protective devices using CF(Certainty Factor), and operation failure of those using the data base of parameter group list. The developed expert system is applied to a 6-bus sample system and through the case studies. It is shown that the expert system is very useful.
This paper introduce a new test generation method based on built-in data base which is suitable for generating of test set by using PROLOG language. The program presented in this paper deals with all the information required for fault detection from the rules describing output signals and internal signals. Example shows the validity of proposed PROLOG program which results in a effective generation of test set comparable to the conventional D-algorithm.
This paper outlines a framework for performing intelligent sensor validation for a diagnostic expert system while reasoning under uncertainty. The emphasis is on the algorithmic preprocess technique. A companion paper focusses on heuristic post-processing. Sensor validation plays a vital role in the ability of the overall system to correctly detemine the state of a plant monitored by imperfect sensors. Especially, several theoretical developments were made in understanding uncertain sensory data in statistical aspect. Uncertain information in sensory values is represented through probability assignments on three discrete states, "high", "normal", and "low", and additional sensor confidence measures in Algorithmic Sv.Upper and lower warning limits are generated from the historical learning sets, which represents the borderlines for heat rate degradation generated in the Algorithmic SV initiates a historic data base for better reference in future use. All the information generated in the Algorithmic SV initiate a session to differentiate the sensor fault from the process fault and to make an inference on the system performance. This framework for a diagnostic expert system with sensor validation and reasonig under uncertainty applies in HEATXPRT$^{TM}$, a data-driven on-line expert system for diagnosing heat rate degradation problems in fossil power plants.
Cooperative query answering is a research effort to develop a fault-tolerant and intelligent database system using the semantic knowledge base constructed from the underlying database. Such knowledge base has two aspects of usage. One is supporting the cooperative query answering process for providing both an exact answer and neighborhood information relevant to a query. The other is supporting ongoing maintenance of the knowledge base for accommodating the changes in the knowledge content and database usage purpose. Existing studies have mostly focused on the cooperative query answering process but paid little attention to the dynamic knowledge base maintenance. This paper proposes a multi-level knowledge representation framework called Knowledge Abstraction Hierarchy(KAH) that can not only support cooperative query answering but also permit dynamic knowledge maintenance, On the basis of the KAH, a knowledge abstraction database is constructed on the relational data model and accommodates diverse knowledge maintenance needs and flexibly facilitates cooperative query answering. In terms of the knowledge maintenance, database operations are discussed for the cases where either the internal contents for a given KAH change or the structures of the KAH itself change. In terms of cooperative query answering, four types of vague queries are discussed, including approximate selection, approximate join, conceptual selection, and conceptual join. A prototype system has been implemented at KAIST and is being tested with a personnel database system to demonstrate the usefulness and practicality of the knowledge abstraction database in ordinary database application systems.

This paper proposes a multi-level knowledge representation framework called Knowledge Abstraction Hierarchy (KAH) that can not only support cooperative query answering but also permit dynamic knowledge maintenance. The KAH consists of two types of knowledge abstraction hierarchies. The value abstraction hierarchy is constructed by abstract values that are hierarchically derived from specific data values in the underlying database on the basis of generalization and specialization relationships. The domain abstraction hierarchy is built on the various domains of the data values and incorporates the classification relationship between super-domains and sub-domains. On the basis of the KAH, a knowledge abstraction database is constructed on the relational data model and accommodates diverse knowledge maintenance needs and flexibly facilitates cooperative query answering. This study is about the quantitative safety assessment of hydrogen station in Korea operating with on-site type. This was written by background information that before qualitative safety assessment to write. For the qualitative safety assessment method, the study used FMEA(failure mode & effect analysis) and HAZOP(hazard & operability), and adopted the FTA(fault tree analysis) as the quantitative safety assessment method. To write the FTA, we wrote FT by Top event that hydrogen leakage can be called most serious accident of hydrogen station. Each base event collect reliability data by reliability data handbook, THERP-HRA and estimation of the engineering. Assessment looked at the high frequency and the possible risk through Gate, Importance, m.cutsets analysis.
