  • Process control is essential to operate the semiconductor process efficiently. This paper consider fault classification of semiconductor based cyclic signal for process control. In general, process signal usually take the different pattern depending on some different cause of fault. If faults can be classified by cause of faults, it could improve the process control through a definite and rapid diagnosis. One of the most important thing is a finding definite diagnosis in fault classification, even-though it is classified several times. This paper proposes the method that one-class classifier classify fault causes as each classes. Hotelling T2 chart, kNNDD(k-Nearest Neighbor Data Description), Distance based Novelty Detection are used to perform the one-class classifier. PCA(Principal Component Analysis) is also used to reduce the data dimension because the length of process signal is too long generally. In experiment, it generates the data based real signal patterns from semiconductor process. The objective of this experiment is to compare between the proposed method and SVM(Support Vector Machine). Most of the experiments' results show that proposed method using Distance based Novelty Detection has a good performance in classification and diagnosis problems.

  • This paper proposes a portable cable fault detection system with automatic fault distinction and distance measurement using time-frequency correlation and reference signal elimination method and automatic fault classification algorithm in order to have more accurate fault determination and location detection than conventional time domain refelectometry (TDR) system despite increased signal attenuation due to the long distance to cable fault location. The performance of the developed system method was validated via an experiment in the test field constructed for the standardized performance test of power cable fault location equipments. The performance evaluation showed that accuracy of the developed system is less than 1.34%. Also, an error of automatic fault type and location by detection of phase and peak value through elimination of the reference signal and normalization of correlation coefficient and automatic fault classification algorithm not occurred.

  • Acoustic Emission technique is widely applied to develop the early fault detection system, and the problem about a signal processing method for AE signal is mainly focused on. In the signal processing method, envelope analysis is a useful method to evaluate the bearing problems and Wavelet transform is a powerful method to detect faults occurred on rotating machinery. However, exact method for AE signal is not developed yet. Therefore, in this paper two methods which are Hilbert transform and DET for feature extraction. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 2 to 15 for feature selection DET, 0.01 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of SVR, and the proposed algorithm achieved 94% classification accuracy with the parameter of the RBF 0.08, 12 feature selection.

  • This paper proposes a fault detection system to detect the strip rupture in six-high stand Cold Rolling Mills based on transient current signal of an electrical motor. For this work, signal smoothing technique is used to highlight precise feature between normal and fault condition. Subtracting the smoothed signal from the original signal gives the residuals that contains the information related to the normal or faulty condition. Using residual signal, discrete wavelet transform is performed and acquire the signal presenting fault feature well. Also, feature extraction and classification are executed by using PCA, KPCA and SVM. The actual data is acquired from POSCO for validating the proposed method.

  • Phase-locked loops (PLLs) are among the most important mixed-signal building blocks of modern communication and control circuits, where they are used for frequency and phase synchronization, modulation, and demodulation as well as frequency synthesis. The growing popularity of PLLs has increased the need to test these devices during prototyping and production. The problem of distinguishing and classifying the responses of analog integrated circuits containing catastrophic faults has aroused recent interest. This is because most analog and mixed signal circuits are tested by their functionality, which is both time consuming and expensive. The problem is made more difficult when parametric variations are taken into account. Hence, statistical methods and techniques can be employed to automate fault classification. As a possible solution, we use the back propagation neural network (BPNN) to classify the faults in the designed charge-pump PLL. In order to classify the faults, the BPNN was trained with various training algorithms and their performance for the test structure was analyzed. The proposed method of fault classification gave fault coverage of 99.58%.

  • This paper proposes a 3-stage (preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification) fault detection and classification algorithm for induction motors. In the first stage, a low-pass filter is used to remove noise components in the fault signal. In the second stage, a discrete cosine transform (DCT) and a statistical method are used to extract features of the fault signal. Finally, a back propagation neural network (BPNN) method is applied to classify the fault signal. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we used one second long normal/abnormal vibration signals of an induction motor sampled at 8kHz. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm achieves about 100% accuracy in fault classification, and it provides 50% improved accuracy when compared to the existing fault detection algorithm using a cross-covariance method. In a real-world data acquisition environment, unnecessary noise components are usually included to the real signal. Thus, we conducted an additional simulation to evaluate how well the proposed algorithm classifies the fault signals in a circumstance where a white Gaussian noise is inserted into the fault signals. The simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm achieves over 98% accuracy in fault classification. Moreover, we developed a testbed system including a TI's DSP (digital signal processor) to implement and verify the functionality of the proposed algorithm.

  • An effective statistical feature extraction approach of data sampling of fault in the combined transmission system is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm leads to high accuracy at minimum cost to predict fault location and fault type classification. This algorithm requires impedance measurement data from one end of the transmission line. Modal decomposition is used to extract positive sequence impedance. Then, the fault signal is decomposed by using discrete wavelet transform. Statistical sampling is used to extract appropriate fault features as benchmark of decomposed signal to train classifier. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used to illustrate the performance of statistical sampling performance. The overall time of sampling is not exceeding 1 1/4 cycles, taking into account the interval time. The proposed method takes two steps of sampling. The first step takes 3/4 cycle of during-fault and the second step takes 1/4 cycle of post fault impedance. The interval time between the two steps is assumed to be 1/4 cycle. Extensive studies using MATLAB software show accurate fault location estimation and fault type classification of the proposed method. The classifier result is presented and compared with well-established travelling wave methods and the performance of the algorithms are analyzed and discussed.

  • The structure of the machinery industry due to the 4th industrial revolution is changing from precision and durability to intelligent and smart machinery through sensing and interconnection(IoT). There is a growing need for research on prognostics and health management(PHM) that can prevent abnormalities in processing machines and accurately predict and diagnose conditions. PHM is a technology that monitors the condition of a mechanical system, diagnoses signs of failure, and predicts the remaining life of the object. In this study, the vibration generated during machining is measured and a classification algorithm for normal and fault signals is developed. Arbitrary fault signal is collected by changing the conditions of un stable supply cutting oil and fixing jig. The signal processing is performed to apply the measured signal to the learning model. The sampling rate is changed for high speed operation and performed machine learning using raw signal without FFT. The fault classification algorithm for 1D convolution neural network composed of 2 convolution layers is developed.

  • In this study, automatic detection of stator winding inter-turn short circuit fault (SWISCFs) in surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs) and automatic classification of fault severity via a pattern recognition system (PRS) are presented. In the case of a stator short circuit fault, performance losses become an important issue for SPMSMs. To detect stator winding short circuit faults automatically and to estimate the severity of the fault, an artificial neural network (ANN)-based PRS was used. It was found that the amplitude of the third harmonic of the current was the most distinctive characteristic for detecting the short circuit fault ratio of the SPMSM. To validate the proposed method, both simulation results and experimental results are presented.
