The investigation of delamination growth behavior in hybrid composite material such as FRMLs should be considered delamination growth rate, dA_D/da$ using the delamination shape factor, $f_S$ instead of traditional fracture mechanics parameters. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the relationship between delamination element (i. e. delamination width, b, delamination contour, c, delamination shape factor, $f_S$ and delamination growth rate, dA_D/da$) and delamination growth in FRMLs under cyclic bending moment. The delamination shape formed along the fatigue crack between aluminum layer and glass fiber/epoxy layer are measured by scanning method. The details of study are as follow : ⅰ) Relationship between crack length, a and delamination width, b. ⅱ) Variation of delamination growth rate, dA_D/da$ was attendant on delamination shape factors, $f_{S1}$, $f_{S2}$, $f_{S3}$. The test result indicated the delamination growth behavior depends in delamination element such as delamination width, b, delamination shape factors, $f_{S1}$, $f_{S2}$, $f_{S3}$.

Minimizing the self weight of long-span deck slabs is one of the key factors for the practical and economic design of a composite two-girder bridge. In this paper, the minimum design thickness and rebar details of prestressed concrete deck slabs for composite two-girder bridges with girder span length from 4 m to 12 m are studied based on the safety and serviceability. The bridge deck slab with minimum thickness is designed as a one-way slab considering orthotropic behavior. Then fatigue safety of the deck slab is examined. Serviceability requirements for the deck slab such as deflection and crack width limits are also examined. The result shows that rebars with diameter less than 16 mm is recommended for the improved fatigue behavior, and, for the deck slab with span length longer than 8 m, the deflection limit governs the minimum design thickness. The result also shows that, for the deck slab with span length longer than 4 m, the distribution rebar requirement in the current Korea Highway Bridge Design Code is not sufficient to maintain the structural continuity in bridge axis as expected from the deck slab with span length shorter than 3 m.

Mechanical joints such as bolted or riveted joints are widely used in mechanical components. The reliable determination of the stress intensity factors for cracks in bolted joints is needed to evaluate the safety and fatigue life of them. The weight function method is an efficient technique to calculate the stress intensity factors for various loading conditions because only the stress analysis of an uncracked model is required. In this paper the mixed-mode stress intensity factors for cracks in bolted joints are obtained by weight function method, in which the coefficients of weight function are determined by finite element analyses for reference loadings. Critical inclined angle that mode I stress intensity factor becomes maximum is determined and the effects of crack length and the magnitude of clearance on critical inclined angle are investigated.

Structural tests of the PSC Beam bridge using high strength concrete, concrete compressive strength 700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, are conducted for the application including durability and serviceability of the bridge. Current design safety factors with respect to the jacking force and the service design load DB-24 are applied to the design of the bridge. Concrete compressive strength 700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, girder depth 2.3m, girder space 3.2m, span length 20m, and slab thickness 27cm are selected for the bridge test. The Bulb-Tee section of the girders is applied instead of I section because it is well known more stable to the longer span(40m). Static load test(4 beams) with composite and non-composite section, and fatigue load test(1 beams) with composite section are conducted. Crack moment, ultimate load, deflections with load steps, and strains of the beam section for those bridges are investigated. The structural test results of the bridges showed a good performance for a safety and a serviceability.

Recently, the pavement distresses in the bridge deck have seriously affected the durability of bridge deck and driver's safety. The existing asphalt materials have the limitations in reducing the pavement distresses of brides deck. To protect the bridge deck and withstand the high deflection, it is necessary to develop the asphalt materials with good fatigue resistance for bridge deck pavement. The asphalt binder combined with SBS and two other admixtures has been developed for improving the resistance to fatigue cracking, productivity, and workability for bridge deck pavement. Based on the various binder test results, the developed binder is found to be PG 70-34 indicating very higher resistance against fatigue cracking. Fatigue testing, wheel tracking testing, and moisture susceptibility testing have been conducted to evaluate the performance of asphalt mixtures developed in this study. Laboratory test results show that the developed asphalt material has three times higher fatigue lives than the typical modified asphalt mixture. Full scale accelerated testing was also performed on the typical asphalt mixture and newly developed asphalt mixture to evaluate the full scale performance of asphalt mixtures. Test results indicate that the length of cracking on the new materials is only 38% of the typical material at the 250,000 load repetitions.

In the nuclear power plant, emergency core coolant system (ECCS) is furnished at reactor coolant system (RCS) in order to cool down high temperature water in case of emergency. However, in this coolant system, thermal stratification phenomenon can occur due to coolant leaking in the check valve. The thermal stratification produces excessive thermal stresses at the pipe wall so as to yield thermal fatigue crack (TFC) accident. In the present study, effects of turbulence penetration on the thermal stratification into T-branches with square cross-section in the modeled ECCS are analysed numerically. Standard k-$\varepsilon$ model is employed to calculate the Reynolds stresses in momentum equations. Results show that the length and strength of thermal stratification are primarily affected by the leak flow rate of coolant and the Reynolds number of duct. Turbulence penetration into the T-branch of ECCS shows two counteracting effects on the thermal stratification. Heat transport by turbulence penetration from main duct to leaking flow region may enhance thermal stratification while the turbulent diffusion may weaken it.
Micromechanical facture models can be used to predict ductile fracture in steel structures. In order to calibrate the parameters in the micromechanical models for the largely used Q345 steel in China, uniaxial tensile tests, smooth notched tensile tests, cyclic notched bar tests, scanning electron microscope tests and finite element analyses were conducted in this paper. The test specimens were made from base metal, deposit metal and heat affected zone of Q345 steel to investigate crack initiation in welded steel connections. The calibrated parameters for the three different locations of Q345 steel were compared with that of the other seven varieties of structural steels. It indicates that the toughness index parameters in the stress modified critical strain (SMCS) model and the void growth model (VGM) are connected with ductility of the material but have no correlation with the yield strength, ultimate strength or the ratio of ultimate strength to yield strength. While the damage degraded parameters in the degraded significant plastic strain (DSPS) model and the cyclic void growth model (CVGM) and the characteristic length parameter are irrelevant with any properties of the material. The results of this paper can be applied to predict ductile fracture in welded steel connections.

This research seeks to evaluate damage on type II gas cylinder by an acoustic emission test when executing 20000 cycles fatigue test and thereafter burst test. Used gas cylinders in the experimental are three types as follows; one is sound cylinder, others are cylinders which contain longitudinal and transverse artificial defect. The size of artificial defect is a depth of 3 mm, width of 3 mm and length of 50 mm. In the case of the cylinder which artificial defect, unlike the expectation that it will burst in low pressure, the burst pressure of the cylinder did not differ much according to whether or not there were defects. However, when there was longitudinal defect, the location of burst was near the location of defect. This leads to the effect in which the thickness of the composite material becomes thinner according to the length of the longitudinal defect and this is judged to have an effect on the location of initiation and growth of crack in the liner. Also, for the acoustic emission signal, when there is longitudinal defect, the ratio of an event occurring at defect position among overall hits is more than 50 %, and the source location also accords very precisely with defect position.
