  • Mental fatigue is inevitable in the workplace. Since mental fatigue can lead to decreased efficiency and critical accidents, it is important to manage mental fatigue from the viewpoint of accident prevention. An experiment was performed to evaluate mental fatigue using the formant frequency analysis of human voices. The experimental task was to mentally add or subtract two one-digit numbers. After completing the tasks with four different levels of mental fatigue, subjects were asked to read Korean vowels and their voices were recorded. Five vowel sounds of "아", "어", "오", "우", and "이" from the voice recorded were then used to extract formant 1 frequency. Results of separate ANOVAs showed significant main effects of mental fatigue on formant 1 frequencies of all five vowels concerned. However, post-hoc comparisons revealed that formant 1 frequencies of "아" and "어" were most sensitive to mental fatigue level employed in this experiment. Formant 1 frequencies of "아" and "어" significantly decrease as the mental fatigue accumulates. The formant frequency extracted from human voice would be potentially applicable for detecting mental fatigue induced during industrial tasks.

  • In order to investigate the effect of fatigue damage on the properties of RRR in this study. fatigue tests at room temperature and residual resistivity measurement tests at 12K were carried out using annealed 9 strand Cu-Ni/NbTi/Cu composite cables Through fatigue tests of NbTi composite cables. a conventional S-N curve could be obtained even though there existed a possibility of fretting among strands, From the resistivity measurement of a NbTi strand after fatigue test, it was found that the RRR of xii·gin strand for annealed cables was 3 times more than that for as-received one. With increasing of fatigue cycles at a sress amplitude level. the RRR decreased. which was resulted from the accumulation of damage such as lattice defects and dislocation within the Cu stabilizer.

  • This study shows the fatigue test results of experiment on the strengthened slabs, the probability analysis of the fatigue behavior is also presented. Static und fatigue tests were performed on bridge decks strengthened with fiber plastics(Carbon Fiber Sheet, Glass Fiber Sheet, Grid Type Carbon Fiber). In this study, to analyze the probabilistic distribution of the fatigue life, the Weibull distribution was adopted. The Weibull distribution coefficient is inferred from the S-N diagram and the number of repeated load. As the result analysis, as the stress level is higher, the fatigue limit of the strengthened bridge deck are similarly discovered but in the range of the fatigue limit, CG specimen that was strengthened with Grid Type Carbon was proved most effective of reinforcement.

  • The standard of the allowed stress in designing components such as shafts used in machinery and aircraft should be determined. It is very important to estimate fatigue strength of a component analytically, because service stress of the components is usually under the level of its fatigue limit. Improving the fatigue strength of each component in machinery is essential for high performance, lightness, and endurance. Surface treatment of components is widely used for these purpose. In this research, the fatigue behaviors of SCM415 steel and carbonitried SCM415 steel are examined. In the analysis of the fatigue behaviors of the carbonitrided SCM 415 steel, we propose a modified fatigue strength evaluation model and modified formulae.
