This study was designed to make a proposal of a classifying model of Korean fashion brands as the first step in a long-term research plan developing a globalization roadmap for Korean fashion industry. On the basis of ownership advantages of a brand which included firm level attributes and brand level characteristics, fashion brands were classified into eight types. The proposed model was expected to provide an efficient and meaningful framework in developing global strategies both for academic and practical purposes. The model proposed four major categories of fashion brands including manufacturer brands, designer brands, retailer brands, and non-brands. Manufacturer brands were further classified into three groups of conglomerate fashion brands, fashion brands, and sports-specialized brands. Non-brands included small/very small-sized manufacturer non-brands, small/very small-sized non-brands, and OEM/ODM exporters. The classifying dimensions, brand type characteristics, and the globalization approach were discussed. Methods to test the reliability and validity of classifying were also discussed in the text.
This study examines the various responses of Chinese consumers, depending on the nationality of the fashion advertising model featured in an advertisement; it explores the effects of a congruence between self-image and advertising image (CSIAI) on consumer attitudes. This study was conducted by collecting data online; 200 samples selecting a Korean model and 200 samples selecting a Chinese model with a fashion brand were analyzed. A structural equation model confirms the conceptual framework for the influence of CSIAI on consumer attitudes and purchase intentions. The results show that the perceived CSIAI of consumers positively influences their attitude toward the advertising and the brand, and further, that advertising and brand attitudes significantly affect the purchase intention of consumers. This positive relationship is moderated by the nationality of the model. These findings suggest that the nationality of the model can serve as an important retail mix for global marketers. Other results and management implications are also discussed.
This study examined trends in model perceptions in the Asian fashion industry through a survey on the current status of using models, model attributes, and image recognition for companies and brands participating in the Seoul Fashion Week and Hong Kong Fashion Week. The results of the study are as follows. First, an examination of the races of models used for public relations by clothing and accessory companies indicated that the use of Asian and black models was lower than white models. Second, intimacy, reliability, similarity, and professionalism were derived as attributes for a public relation model. Among these factors, only 'intimacy' showed a difference between the countries. Third, Seoul Fashion Week participants gave the highest marks for the strong individuality of the models used for their brands; however, participants in the Hong Kong Fashion Week most appreciated suitability with products and professional appearance. Fourth, the different trends of model image recognition were shown through various analysis results by country or race, in which Seoul Fashion Week participants highly perceived the global and luxurious image of white models, and were generally highly satisfied with the models. In terms of the Hong Kong Fashion Week, Asian models tended to be perceived as a more casual image, and the participants held contributions to brand recognition as the most significant factor when using Asian models.

The purpose of the study was to examine model postures at fashion shows with respect to expressing fashion images including elegance and neutral-gender images. Data were gathered from the fashion shows held 2000 S/S through 2009 F/W, when elegance and neutral-gender fashion images were obvious in fashion collections. Three designer brands representing elegance and neutral-gender fashion images were selected by the researcher and fashion specialists including graduate students majoring in fashion. The fashion collection photos representing each image were selected from style.com, a website which contains four world's biggest fashion collections. The results showed different hand positions as a model posture according to fashion images. In the neutral-gender image, 16 photos (47%) showed a hand position at pockets, in the elegance image, 24 photos (82.3%) showed a hand position laying down by the sides. Also, walking pose was shown to be different between two fashion images. In the neutral-gender fashion image, 16 photos (52.9%) revealed a pose of 'natural walk', while 29 photos (100%) showed a pose of 'walk in a straight line' in the elegance imaged fashion. In conclusion, the neutral-gender image photos showed the pocket-positioned hand and the 'natural walk' poses more than elegance image photos, and elegance image photos revealed the hand position laying down by the sides and the 'walk in a straight line' poses than the photos of the neutral-gender image.
The study aims to examine the forms of 'image expression' and utilization of model poses in fashion photos, and to delve into the characteristics and the intents that make certain model poses effective in expressing an image. The study used the fashion photos in the fashion magazine, Vogue, to analyze the different model poses used to express different images. The results are as follows. First, image expression forms in fashion photos were categorized into 'direct product suggestion expression form', 'sensual image expression form', 'sexual image expression form', 'story telling expression form', 'everyday situation expression form', and 'fantastic image expression form'. The different utilization types of model poses were categorized into 'type utilizing intangible elements', 'type utilizing complicated elements', 'type utilizing living organisms', 'type utilizing props', 'type utilizing clothes', 'type utilizing location', 'type utilizing accessories', and 'type utilizing products'. Second, the most common expression form for fashion photos used in advertisements was the 'direct product suggestion expression form', which was followed by the sensual image expression form. The most popular form used in the editorial fashion photos was the direct suggestion product expression form, which was followed by the story telling expression form. Third, the most common model pose type for direct product suggestion form was the 'type utilizing product'. Fourth, 'direct product suggestion expression form' was mostly used in editorial fashion photos. The most common utilization types of model poses were 'type utilizing clothes', 'type utilizing props', and 'type utilizing place'.

The purpose of this study was to find out criteria for classifying fashion brand from the consumer point of view. This was compared with the viewpoint of fashion business practice in order to develop strategy of fashion brands and to manage brand effectively and systematically, and to suggest theoretical frame for application of these criteria. This study was researched as the succeeding study of a model of criteria for classifying fashion brands from the viewpoint of fashion business practice. Survey was used as a research method. The subjects were 422 women who were 20-30 years old and living in and near Seoul. Questionnaires were developed based on 37 fashion brands' classification criteria by means of pre-survey, and SPSS package and LISREL program were used to analyze the data. As a result of factor analysis considering 37 classification criteria, 8 factors were identified as classification criteria. They were as follows; the level of brand form, the level of product concept, the level of management item, the level of brand sales ability, the level of customer management, the level of brand advertising and awareness, the level of brand value, and the level of product lead ability. All of criteria were correlated to each other. The effective method to classify fashion brands was proposed by establishing the model of the relationship of the values of 7 criteria and by proving it with the structure equation model analysis. The model of criteria for classifying fashion brands that was suggested on this study was proved by the structure equation model analysis. In this study, from a consumer's point of view we suggested a theoretical framework describing which criteria would be selected to classify and utilize fashion brand market. This model can be used to select the most efficient classification criteria and classify them hierarchically instead of selecting only one among some factors that complex and interactional and classifying.
This study utilizes a S-O-R model to investigate the effects of apparel product presentations using a 3D avatar model in Internet fashion malls for pleasure(emotional state) and approach behavior. We chose a 3D avatar model to present a fashion product in this study. The model walked for about one minute on stage; subsequently, respondents completed a questionnaire after they viewed it. The questionnaire consists of telepresence, pleasure and approach behavior. Respondents are limited to females 20s and 30s years old who have purchased fashion products in an Internet mall and are highly interested in fashion products. A total of 226 samples were used for the final analysis. Cronbach's alpha, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling were utilized in this study. The results are as follows. First, telepresence has a significant influence on pleasure; subsequently, pleasure influenced consumer approach behavior. Second, telepresence positively influenced the approach behavior (directly and indirectly). This verified the effectiveness of a 3D avatar model using S-O-R. A 3D avatar model can be a strategic alternative in the fiercely competitive Internet shopping sector.
This study is to develop a fashion drawing education program which is based on the theory of 'Split-brain' by Roger W. Sperry and 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' by Betty Edwards. Students in Fashion Design start their training by developing a foundation in drawing and studing the tools, materials and methods of the Industry. Ideas are then developed on paper, later translated into three-dimensional shapes and finally into finished garments. Fashion drawing and design techniques train the hand and eye to all the nuances of fashion design and illustration. Fashion drawing course deals with the sketching of fashion models for the purpose of understanding the model figure, basic anatomy, movement and figure attitudes. Having mastered the basic skills, students take advanced drawing course which is developing awareness of design, needs, of fashion market' using various media for the purpose of developing a designer's sketch, with emphasis on the drawing and designs. Featured aspects of this study include the following; 1. Drawing the negative space; basic visual concepts 2. Contour drawing; constructs, visual measurement, movement 3. Model drawing; the classical method, proportion, symmetry. The primary aim of this study is to develop a sensitive, animated line based on observed form. It is important to let the students Imagine that they are actually touching the model, for in this way they can benefit from simulating the child's learning process. Instead of actually touching the model they are using their eyes as an extension of their sense of touch.
The purpose of this study is to examine and compare effects of psychological factors on market mavenism and fashion leadership in order to determine the differences of two influential groups in the marketplace. The data were collected from 20's-50's consumers through an online survey institute and a total of 857 questionnaires were analyzed. Demographic variables (gender, age, and income level) were entered into the regression model 1 as independent variables, and 6 factors of consumer self-confidence, clothing involvement, status consumption, and price consciousness were entered into the regression model 2. In the regression model 1, gender (female) alone was significant in explaining market mavenism, while the income level had a positive relationship with fashion leadership. In the regression model 2, information acquisition, social outcome, persuasion knowledge among consumer self-confidence, and status consumption were significant predictors of market mavenism. On the other hand, personal outcome, social outcome, persuasion knowledge, clothing involvement, and status consumption had an effect on the fashion leadership. When comparing magnitudes of effects in predicting market mavenism and fashion leadership, social outcome and status consumption showed to have stronger impacts on fashion leadership than on market mavenism. Psychological factors showed to be more powerful in predicting market mavenism or fashion leadership, as compared to demographic variables.

The purpose of this study is to establish a relationship between TV home shopping model and the marketing data of the TV home shopping industry. Differences in relationship marketing factors, trust, and intent to reuse depending on the experience of the model have resulted in a higher assessment of both the expertise and service factors of fashion stylists than groups with 10 years or less experience. In addition, model groups with 15 or more broadcasts in one month rated the professionalism, communication, ties, trust, and intent to reuse fashion stabilists more than 15 model groups. The difference in marketing factors, services, communications and ties between the professional and use of home shopping models was found to be 40 years old as compared to those in their 20s and 30s. Finally, in terms of the gender of the home shopping model, the difference between the marketing factors and the reliability of the relationship and the intent to reuse, the professional, communication and bonding, trust, and re-purpose factors were all rated higher by the female group than the male group. The results of the study suggest that a relationship marketing strategy needs to be established between a fashion stylist and a TV home shopping model, and fashion stylists should be judged based on the characteristics of a TV home shopping model.
