  • Consumers are prone to engage in browsing because they are, for a variety of reasons, open to spending opportunities that grab their attentions. In-store browsing is the in-store examination of a retailer's merchandise for recreational or/and informational purposes without an immediate intent to buy. Browsers made more unplanned purchases than non-browsers in a regional mall setting. As a form of on-going search, in-store browsing is a central component in the impulse buying process. The purposes of this study were 1) to examine the causal relationships among fashion involvement, hedonic consumption, browsing and impulse buying behavior, and 2) to investigate the mediating effects of browsing on impulse buying behavior for fashion products. A questionnaire was developed from a literature review and measured on a 7-point rating scale. Data were obtained from 413 students attending universities in Busan. The self-administered questionnaire was given during a scheduled class. Using structural equation modeling, the results indicate that the proposed model of this study is appropriate to explain the mediating effects of browsing on impulse buying behavior for fashion products. The model shows that fashion involvement and hedonic consumption are important as antecedents of browsing in fashion stores, and consumers browsing longer in fashion stores would tend to increase the likelihood of experiencing impulse buying behavior. That is, browsing in store plays an important mediating role in triggering impulse buying behavior for fashion products. The results from this study provide some insights into retail marketing theory supporting the trait and behavioral aspects of impulse buying. Future research and managerial implications are addressed.

Questionnaires were administered to 201 males in their 20s to 50s living in Daegu South Korea. The SPSS 20.0 package utilized for data analysis included frequency analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. This study utilized an Amos 21.0 program, a Confirmative Factor Analysis(CFA)and a Structural Equation Modeling(SEM). The results of the study are as follows: First, the appearance concern showed a partial mediation effect between measurement variables that verified the causal relationship of the structural model. Second, interpersonal relations showed a positive influence on masculinity. Third, masculinity showed a positive influence on the appearance concern. Fourth, masculinity had a positive influence on appearance-related consumption behavior. Fifth, interpersonal relations did not have a significant influence on appearance-related consumption behavior. Sixth, the appearance concern showed a positive influence on appearance-related consumption behavior. • This study aims to investigate the relationship between consumers’ clothing consumption values, demographic features, and clothing disposal behaviors. The data were collected from 300 women aged between 20 and 59 through the online survey with the self-administered questionnaire. A series of exploratory and confirmative factor analysis was conducted to identify the dimensions of clothing consumption values and clothing disposition behaviors. Clothing consumption values consisted of six dimensions including conditional value, individuality value, fashion value, social value, practical value, and self-expression value. Clothing disposition behaviors were discovered as four dimensions such as discarding, giving, selling, and donating. A structural equation modeling analysis was employed to examine the relationship between clothing consumption values and disposition behaviors. While individuality value, fashion value, and practical value had a significantly positive impact on donating, giving, and discarding behaviors, both practical value and self-expression value negatively influenced discarding behavior. Fashion value negatively affected giving behavior. Employing a series of MANOVA, one-way ANOVA and sheffe's multiple range test, this study found that there were significant effects of age, marital status, monthly income, and monthly clothing expenses on giving and donating behaviors. This study suggests that fashion firms should be aware of clothing disposition in terms of social and environmental concerns and understand diverse consumer disposal behaviors and utilize them as a social marketing strategy.

  • Purpose - This research is to empirically explore the differences in apparel consumption among male and female teenagers and college students in Korea and China. By conducting a survey to understand customers' needs and behaviors, fashion businesses will be able to improve their customer satisfaction and avoid redundancy, inventory, and the waste of resources, effort and money. Design/methodology - The research design considers the consumption patterns of male and female high school and college students in Korea and China. To analyze the data, the study employs decision trees, a type of machine learning algorithm. A decision tree model was developed to examine the relationship between the explanatory and response variables, which can be either quantitative or qualitative in nature. Findings - The main findings of this study indicate that there are differences in shopping behavior among different customer segments. The results show that men have a simpler shopping behavior compared to women. Additionally, cultural factors and the difference in fashion needs between students and non-students have a significant impact on the shopping choices of Chinese and Korean individuals. Originality/value - Existing studies often assume that the shopping behavior of high school and university students is similar and that there are no significant differences in clothing purchases between men and women across countries. The results provide valuable insights into the unique shopping behavior of different customer segments, and can inform fashion businesses in their efforts to meet the needs of their customers.

  • This study aimed to elucidate any differences in fashion consumption tendencies among fashion consumers according to their MBTI personality types and fashion brand sensibility (Chanel vs. Off-White). Differences in fashion consumption tendencies (fashion sensitivity, fashion innovativeness, and fashion ostentation) were determined based on two of MBTI's four bipolar indicators: extroversion-introversion, sensing-intuition, thinking-feeling, and judging-perceiving. It was found that intuitive consumers showed higher fashion innovativeness than sensory consumers. In addition, feeling-type consumers showed more fashion-sensitive and ostentatious fashion consumption tendencies than thinking-type consumers. Fashion brand sensibility acted as a moderator in the relationship between personality type and fashion consumption tendency. Especially, moderating effects of fashion brand sensibility and fashion consumption tendencies were evident in sensing-intuition and judging-perceiving types. Among intuitive consumers, those who preferred Chanel brand sensibility exhibited higher tendencies for fashion ostentation than those who preferred Off-White brand sensibility. However, sensory type consumers showed no difference in fashion ostentation based on their preferred fashion brand sensibility. Interaction effects regarding fashion sensitivity and fashion innovativeness were not found. Among perceiving-type consumers who preferred Chanel brand sensibility, high fashion sensitivity was evident. Conversely, judgment-type consumers who preferred Off-White brand sensibility showed high fashion sensitivity. Interaction effects concerning fashion innovativeness and fashion ostentation were not found.
